This is(or should I say was?) my go-to soup place. Every day I would come here for lunch, and every day I was happy. The selection changes every day, but there is always something tasty to have. The vegetables are plenty and the broth tasted amazing. I never got bored of it and had soup and rice every day since I discovered this place and their very friendly staff! All that changed yesterday, when I discovered the whole management has changed hands! No longer is the smiling soup-ladling man with the short hair asking me ‘here’ or ‘takeway’ and giving me an extra boiled date, no longer is the nice auntie giving me my brown rice and asking how I am, and no longer do I see the uncle who clears the plates at the end of the meal. I loved this place for it’s nice soups and very friendly staff. I appreciated that they recognised me when I kept coming back. Now it seems the management has changed to unfriendly strange group of guys, who don’t re-stock the chili and make soup much fattier than it used to be. My watercress soup was swimming in fat, and the meat was mostly all fat. I hope to see the old people back here, and would like to think they’re just on holiday. I would really like to come back to my favourite lunch spot!

They have delicious pumpkin rice($ 2)! My colleague thinks that’s a bit expensive for pumpkin rice(I guess you can get it for cheaper elsewhere), but other colleagues think it’s worth paying cos it’s better than elsewhere. I like it! Always addictive. Although today’s was a bit on the dry side. There are a ton(ok, maybe three or four) of outlets of this shop along Stanley Street and Telok Ayer Street and it’s usually somewhat crowded, but crowd moves pretty fast. Auntie at the Stanley Street outlet was very nice, found us a place while we were standing in line. It was kind of funny actually, she was like, oh, you need a place? Come, give me your stuff(to chope place). Tis really a CBD area lunchtime custom, the tissue/access card/umbrella seat reservation system. One of my colleagues didn’t have anything other than her wallet and phone and was like er. you want me to give you my wallet? Lol. Anyway, I’ve had their pork rib lotus root soup and their pork rib white radish soup(at least this one has some sort of veg: p), $ 5 each. Yummy! I love lotus root and they have nice peanuts, fairly flavourful broth. I think the pork ribs were more meaty that those in the radish soup, but that might’ve just been luck of the scoop. Same for the radish soup — added sweetness because of the radish, yummy! It kind of depends what they happen to fish out of the pot though, I’ve seen other people get pieces of corn but I’ve yet to receive such bounty. I did get some sort of a date or something today, along with a piece of yellow radish, didn’t get either of those last time. Not that much pork in the soup though. Pumpkin rice! I love pumpkin, so it makes me very happy :) Comes with chicken pieces and mushroom too, pretty gd! I usually add both types of soy(the normal clear salty soy and thicker sweet soy), with chilli in it, to add more kick. You can also add vegetables for $ 1.50/dish. I’ve had just their kailan with pumpkin rice before, made a pretty gd meal too!
