Cedele

I am in love with Cedele’s carrot cake.
But even if buy coffee, at least this outlet, is too cheap to give me water with ice. They seriously said they cannot put in ice in the tap water. Seriously? Worst customer service.

I’m embarrassed to find reviews of certain spots that I’ve grown fond of over time. Man I was a harsh bastard before!
Well, now that I’ve come to understand the ways of Singapore and had a chance to equalize my expectations around service and pricing, I’ve been a regular at Cedele.
The DIY salads are delicious and a great deal. They seem to have improved their service levels dramatically. Everyone I’ve encountered lately has been friendly, courteous, and prompt.
Just like the journey I took in level setting expectations around a good burrito (I’m more than happy to pay 15 bucks for a decent burrito in SG now), I see Cedele as a solid establishment now.

For long months, I dismissed Cedele as a dining option, with the dismissive hauteur of a Westerner in the passionate throes of Eastern discovery, glutted on the virtual candy land of Singapore’s awesome hawker fare.
«Pish posh», my stomach sniffed, «how could humble sandwiches and soups ever live up to the smoky wok flavor of char kway teow and the simple yet incredible satisfaction of roti canai dipped greedily in curry chicken?»
And yet, I finally discovered the error of my ways, not, as it would turn out, in the sandwiches or soups, but in the desserts! My first taste of Cedele’s carrot walnut cake was at an office birthday party, and I was hooked right away. The cake is moist and fresh tasting with a perfect (or damn near close to it!) cream cheese frosting. Perfectly creamy and natural tasting without being too sweet!
Other cakes are also awesome including the red velvet cake (same cream cheese icing as the carrot walnut), salted caramel cheesecake, and the lemongrass crème brûlée cheese cake. The only dessert we’ve not liked so far is the pecan pie. It was a bit too dry compared to what were used to back in the US.
PARTING THOUGHT: If you are ordering cakes for a large group of people, recall your basic geometry and plan to order multiple cakes vs. the large cake. The larger cake is only 1 inch larger in radius (2 in diameter) and yet costs 2x the price! You’ll be a hero if you get multiple cakes and then you can order multiple kinds as well :)

This is possibly the worst Cedele I’ve ever been to… granted, none of them are good!
Albeit, the food isn’t bad and it does make me feel healthier. Yes, the premium for «healthy» food is on the higher side, but that’s not why Cedele deserves two stars.
I can’t stand the customer service!!! My order is usually wrong, though I may be the only one dining. But most of all, they are SSLLLLOOOOOWWW. One time, I went to Subway (located about 100 meters away), stood in line, got a sub to go, waited for them to prepare my sub, paid for my order, walked back to Cedele, and they were still preparing my sandwich!
I appreciate slow food and all, but seriously, does it really need to be that, that slow?

whilst waiting to swap my old starhub set top box for a new hd one, i decided to grab a quick bite here as i’ll have a clear line of sight of the queue number being served over at starhub’s customer service centre.
i always have their sandwich and soup set at $ 10.80.
this gets me my favourite roasted chicken avocado on golden pumpkin bap sandwich.
you can choose your filling and then from the breads available for the day.
only 2 types of soup were available from this outlet today: green pea bacon or moroccan spiced carrot.
for me, the lesser of the 2 evil was the green pea bacon soup.
i was advised when producing my cedele card that it had expired along with my balance points:(
sigh but luckily for me, not many points left.
the soup was minty green with a savoury bacon finish, not bad considering it’s not my poison.
when the sandwich is ready they will page for you.
it’s always freshly made with fresh ingredients.
you get healthier with each bite.
