Hock Lam Beef

We were actually planning on going to Folks Collective, heard so much about this Thai place at Far East! Anyhow, we ended up sidetracked on our mission by the thought of delicious beef noodles! Now I haven’t been here in a few years (I know, shame on me), but I remember being fairly wowed by the noodles last time. This time. so-​so, unfortunately. Perhaps the dry noodles are the way to go.
Anyway, it was a somewhat cool day so three of us went with soup noodles — the soup was quite salty :(I am convinced it was MSG-​laden, because I ended up with a serious headache after consuming (almost) all the soup! Probably not the best idea. Anyway, the white beehoon was quite impressive though, very soft and of a texture not commonly found (or expected) in that sort of beehoon (it’s normally fairly hard and springy). Also, very tender beef slices! Hand-​cut indeed. Came up to $ 9 after tax etc. So, it was not too bad a meal but not amazing. I’d give it 3.5 stars!

Hock Lam Beef has been in existence for over 100 years! Each bowl is made to order! I met the owner’s brother. He was very friendly and told me about the history of his family’s business.
I ordered the mixed beef kway teow (which include beef slices, balls, brisket and tripe) with their homemade chili sauce! The beef broth is very flavorful and beef is very tender. This is a good lunch option if you want something quick and simple. Come before the mad lunch rush!
