Their almond pain au chocolat was very dry. I felt robbed of my calories. PASS.

BEST cream puffs you can get in Singapore! The patissier is Japanese, so you can expect the Japanese standards in terms of perfection and pride in their work. So far have tried most of the menu, even had a few birthday cakes ordered from Pantler. The pastry cream that they use for the cream puff goes so well with the light and slightly crispy shell that has a biscuit base. The smooth creamy, yet not too sweet pastry cream with a tinge of vanilla is also in the Mille-feuille where the Puff pastry is airy and melts in your mouth. We ordered a fruits tart once and it costed close to $ 200 but so well worth it. The pie crust was crumbly and filled with the pastry cream once again(my favorites are anything with this cream!) and topped with all the best harvests from Japan!!! The fruits were sooo sweet and fresh it was well worth the amount paid for. So far there is not one cake or pastry from Pantler that has disappointed, and I will strive to try everything on their menu.

Small and cozy. The lighting here isn’t fantastic for pictures, but the chocolate croissant and iced latte were fabulous. It isn’t pricey at all, but you definitely get some quality quiet time and food.

As most of the reviews have already recommended — Yatsura! It is fluffy, chocolatey rich, a crunch to the bite and just the right size. This is a little café tucked away with lots of goodness. The staffs are very friendly and accommodating. I went with a huge group and they didn’t mind that we occupied a large area. Without our group, I think it is a lovely place to hang out and chat with the long time no see friend. They provide a water station for you to clean your palate between their cakes and tarts. Their seatings are quite nicely separated for the ones who comes in group or the one or two person who are looking for a quiet moment. In addition to dessert, they also have simple sandwiches and pastries if you haven’t had lunch. I definitely recommend trying out their dessert when you visit though!

When I think of bakeries, I think of warmth, and usually this translates to colours as well. I feel that a lot of bakeries are naturally lit, with lots of pastel colours and just very light. Pantler is different to me because their walls are dark grey. The interior strikes me as very minimalist, but in a good way. Their desserts are beautifully displayed and naturally draws you to the counter. In addition to the desserts, there are a few pastry items such as bread and croissants. As this was the second part to Unilocal SG’s monthly brunch* I wasn’t too hungry to try everything, so I depended on trusty Sonya C to choose on our behalf. She didn’t disappoint, choosing a good range from fruity to chocolate-y. DATYATSURATHO… I took bites of a few of the desserts, but I can only remember the Yatsura. I want to say it’s like an Opera cake, but with chocolate/hazelnut flavours. It was like Ferroro Rocher in cake form. In short– amazing. This seems like such a wonderful after-dinner place to visit; a shame they’re only open until 7PM! Not sure if it’s because of their CBD location, but considering they’re close to Club Street I’d say it’d make sense to open later. – *For those who want in on our monthly brunches, check the Talk threads to find out where we’re going next. All are welcome!

The place was deserted when we were there around 1pm on a Saturday afternoon. I guess it is usually quieter on weekends without the office crowd. They do online delivery though. I had a slight cough so I did not share the cakes with the others. Besides cakes, they sell tarts and pastries and even sandwiches for those who need more sustenance. The bestsellers or signature cakes are actually the Pantler Roll Cake, Pantler cheesecake and probably the yatsura. As I was having a slight cough, I figured it would be better to avoid chocolate or anything which would be too sweet. The pastries and tarts actually looked more appetizing that day. There was a raspberry pastry which looked interesting, likewise for the pear tart. I had a cappuccino and a Pantler roll cake. The cappuccino was surprisingly good with no acidic aftertaste or bitterness. My gauge for a good coffee is whether I need to add sugar to it as I usually need sugar to mask the bitterness/sourness of coffee to make it more palatable to me. So I did not need to add sugar to it. The Pantler roll cake was not that fantastic. The top was a bit hard and hard to cut through with a fork. It tasted like bread instead. The cream was good and the bottom part of the roll was softer. I also had an almond croissant which was divine. Flaky crispy crust which did not fall all over the place with an almond paste inside. There was no overpowering almond taste, just a slight hint of it. A perfect snack or a light breakfast for those who work in the area. I also tried the pear tart who was a bit too sweet to me. The crust was light and balanced the pear slices and filling well. The yatsura is definitely on my list to try the next time I am in the area.

2nd stop for the day on 17th Jan 2015. Came here with other Unilocalers to try out their desserts. Tried ten types and my favorite is still Yatsura. It was like eating Ferrero Rocher as a cake form. The shop’s space is small so it might be better if you come in smaller group. Our big group had to split into three tables and can only mingle with the people closer to you. Unfortunately, ½ of the size of the store was the display cases. The second top list was definitely the ruby grapefruit. The small cuts of grapefruits blended well with the tart. The third one will be Vera. It will be better if the cakes are a little colder cause it will bring out more of the chocolate and fruity taste in order to give a better review. Will definitely be back for more Yatsura in the upcoming future. :)

I recommend the yatsura dessert. It has a strong hazelnut flavor and a nice cookie crunch on the bottom. Inside are two chocolate layers, one of which is a mousse. At the very top is a thin dark chocolate layer. Of the several other desserts I tasted in small quantities, the ruby grapefruit was sweet and refreshing. It may be a good choice for a fruit-based, rather than chocolate, option. The desserts cost $ 8 – 9 each.

Love the yatsura — hazelnut praline cake. It’s light but it hits the spot! :) The cheesecake was good too.
