Recently the ION outlet has relocated to basement 4 of the mall. The outlet has an open concept compared to its previous outlet. Currently the soup chain is having a Japan Souper Inspirations promotion with 3 new soups. I order 2 of the soups with a Half and Half set which costs $ 10.30 which is $ 1.80 more expensive than the usual set, as I am having the promotional soups. Although there is hardly any crowd, the staffs around seem to be too busy to serve me. The staff does not give me the promotional lucky draw card that comes with the promotional soup. She also does not put condiments on the soups. The set comes with a ice tea and a bun. The ice tea is quite bland in taste. Barramundi Miso Stew Kuhlbarra barramundi fish, napa cabbage, leeks, carrots, zucchini, shitake mushrooms, potatoes, onions, shiro miso, handmade fish stock, mirin, sake, ginger, garlic and onions I am upset that it does not comes with the condiments such as tofu cubes, shichimi togarashi, shredded seaweed, chopped spring onions as has been showed on the menu. The soup itself is very flavourful with chunky soft vegetables in it. Mizutaki x Keihan Chicken Stew Marinated chicken, white radish, carrots, zucchini, shitake mushroom, black fungus, barley, sake, mirin, lemons, soy sauce, onions, garlic and onions. I also disappoint that the condiments such as toasted white sesame seeds, seaweed and shredded pickled red ginger is not served with the soup. The soup is also very flavourful. Overall the food is not bad, but the service has much to be improved with. The place is so empty that I could see people bringing in outside food to eat without buy any inhouse food, yet the staffs do not do a thing. So upsetting.

After moving to Singapore, j have tried LOTS of new foods. Unfortunately, most food court finds leave me not feeling so well. I have tried to figure out the culprit and I honestly think it is MSG. When I read the Soup Spoon’s menu and saw their soups were MSG free, I knew I had to try it. I had a bowl of pumpkin soup which came with a roll. For a little over $ 6SGD, I was able to have a delicious, filling, healthy and MSG free meal. The service was quick and prompt. The Soup Spoon uses it’s space incredibly well. I felt like I was in a restaurant rather than the middle of a food court. In fact, I almost felt like I was in the U.S. In a Panera(ok, maybe that is a bit of a stretch), but I did enjoy it. In fact, I enjoyed my soup so much that I bought a pumpkin soup to go so that I could have it for lunch! I will be back to try the set with soup and salad.

It feels a little strange to say it, but here goes. My name is Marcus and I may be a souperholic. I don’t know how it happened, but one day I walked in, got soup, and… it just happened. This shop, bright and cheery and full of… I shudder to say it — soup — and filled with smiley, happy people… they’ve got a way about them, and before you know it, you’re walking away with a large bowl of clam chowder and a half sandwich set, and there’s no way you’re finishing all that. Or will you? I never figured myself as a soup person, but now it seems like I can actually imagine myself having some. What is happening to me? Am I actually considering a healthy option for lunch? It’s easier to imagine a life without soup — greasy, deep fried chicken, fries and a Coke? Heck yeah. Spicy mutton briyani? Yes please! But when you put them next to a bowl of The Soup Spoon’s mushroom stroganoff, suddenly you recant, and in the face of a lower calorie, healthier meal with stuff that’s not only better for your body, but potentially also for your wallet… That’s grounds to do a double take and head out for some soup. After all, they are in a mall, and there’s air conditioning, so don’t complain about the hot soup. Mommas around the world will say: it’s good for you.
