What the hell happened? A while back I had a wonderful time here, cool ambiance, great service, lovely food and the most amazing peppercorn sauce, one of those nights that convince you to return soon. Fast forward to last week. The music, although nice, was way too loud but that’s ok, EPL on the big screen, that’s good… and there it ended. Where to begin, well, in a nutshell — the service was awful, my steak was tougher than Ghandi’s flip flop and had to be replaced, meaning my Friend had finished before my meal turned up. Both courses were served before we finished appetisers — I hate that. My steak, when re-cooked, was average at best, the fries were cold and it sat on a yellow lump of congealed something or other, accompanied by coleslaw which was limp, watery and tasteless. The peppercorn sauce had no peppers and was like a brown tasteless soup. Give them their due, the team realised they had messed up and a manager came over to apologise and offered to ‘make’ us a special dessert. What appeared were 2 tiramisu desserts that were on the menu anyway, so hardly special and had more alcohol than in them than anything else, which rendered them inedible. Then they had the audacity to try and add a service charge!!! I’ve no idea what they’ve done to this once fine little eating place but my advice to them is to get their damn act together. Rubbish, must try harder.

Fourplay Kitchen and bar, located on Joo Chiat Rd, is what I would a characterize as your typical neighborhood bar with a little bit more pizzaz. I suppose the name of the place is a little suggestive :-) In any event, the interior is welcoming, perfect for sports fan. I particularly love the posters that line walls with all sorts of witty slogans /truisms. As for the food, I tried their popular Donut burger. I thought it was pretty good value at $ 16 for both the burger and fries. The burger itself was served with sunny-side up, hash brown, cheddar cheese, with BBQ sauce and garlic aioli. The taste was definitely there, but I felt the beef patty missed the spot. It wasn’t as moist as I would like. It was cooked properly, but it seemed like wasn’t thawed enough(i.e. taken from the fridge /freezer and immediately on the grill). It was decent nonetheless. Overall, it’s good place to chill and relax, especially if the entire crowd is there tune into one game. There is only large TV is the main dining area, so don’t expect multiple games to be featured like what you have at boomerang given their countless number of TVs.
