So as part of my business trip here in Singapore, I am also doing a tour of local craft & microbreweries. Decided to stop and try Adstra since it was along the route we were walking back to my hotel. Ordered one of their Apple Wheat beers and boy did I have a major surprise when I tried to take the first sip … and it wasn’t a good one! The beer had an extremely pronounced metallic taste like someone has soaked a copper US penny in it! As a brewer myself, this was an indication that there was a major problem with something in their brewing process or equipment. My friend tried their Red IPA that was supposed to be a bronze medal winner and it had the same issue but less pronounced. Further more, I noticed that tap handles were installed on their formation tanks which were being used to dispense beer for customers. This is not a good thing to do since it easily allows the beer to become contaminated. Can’t comment on the food since we quickly left after how bad the beer was for the price(2 half pints cost almost $ 20!!), but honestly I would not recommend this place or the beer. For those of you interested in good beers, please check out my other reviews for spots in Singapore that should be coming up over the remainder of this week.

Remarkably medicore beer, esp. for a place that promotes itself as a craft, artisanal, microbrewery. I tried three: IPA, Nutty IPA, and Red. Somehow theyve managed to make an IPA without the slightest hint of any hops! When I asked the manager(6pm Friday night) which hops they used in their IPA, he answered, unconvincingly«Oh, loads of different ones.» Where from, I asked? Oh, all over the world… Again, not too reassuring. And the Nutty IPA is just as undistinguished as the IPA itself. The Red was better, but still not worth a trip. Id take Archipelago over the three beers I tried here. And, they are silly expensive: $ 9 for half a pint.

Nutty ipa Indian pale ale. Lovely! Soother than the red. Both great but the red ale had more punch and a tiny bit of bitterness.

Meh is exactly how I’d sum up this place. It was a great location, although it’s extremely hidden by leafy plants, but something about it doesn’t quite work. Besides the fact that the guy who runs the place doesn’t seem to know much about beer and how to handle beer-loving customers and give em what they want, the beer is pricey, the brewed beer is mediocre and the food isn’t anything to shout about. I suppose I’d come here as a last resort. It isn’t anything terrible, just that there are far better places to drink throughout East Coast Road and this place tries to hard and fails too much. I remember it used to be in the basement of Chijmes, which was a lot more pleasant to hang out in. There ARE beers that are not so expensive, but if you’re there it’s probably for the microbrewery factor and that comes at a pretty price. I say give it a miss.
