I really am a fan only because of one menu item, the Caramel Sea Salt Chessecake. They’ve since tweaked the recipe and I’m not so sure I’m still a fan. It is still very good with a gossamer layering of smokiness in the caramel and a nice bold salty finish. Salty in a good sweet way and not with the umami heft of salty in a savory way. Am I making any sense here at all? If I am, you know what I’m talking about, how kosher sea salt adds that extra frustratingly difficult to define dimension to chocolate, caramel and other sweets. Cedele at Guthrie House occupies the same space that Venezia Gelateria used to for the longest time, especially those of you familiar with the 5th Ave area. My personal recommendation would still be to get your other comestibles like buns and rolls at Simply Bread, right round the corner. Both Cedele’s and SB’s sourdoughs have been weighed in the balance and although neither is spectacular, SB’s show’s a little bolder fermentation, although I’m pretty sure they both use commercial yeast and neither has the benefit of a legacy starter. So ok lah, I’m still going to go with SB’s sourdough when I want to have something to dip in brudder’s chicken curry from across the street at Sixth Ave Briyani. …and finish off with a slice of Cedele’s Caramel Sea Salt Cheesecake. Win Win liao lor?!

Newly opened Cedele bakery serving soup, salad and sandwiches. This place took over the old gelato place and is serving up opening specials of free soup with every order of salad or sandwich. There is also unlimited free veggie crunch toppings with orders of make-your-own-salad. Food wise is okay, but service was a little slow. I’m guessing the waiters need more training since it is newly opened.
