There’s a really good reason why this place only gets three stars on Unilocal, which I think is very generous based on my one experience here. It looks like an über cool place from the street, which is what brought me in the door, but for me the charm ended there. My glass of wine was horrendous. I should have realized that when I was getting a glass of French Merlot in Singapore for $ 13. It must be a $ 5 bottle of wine, which is basically swill. Service is also horrendous. I sat at bar for full 10 minutes before I was ever acknowledged — and not even by the bartender but by a server. Not sure why he wanted to wait on me as he was surly and clearly I was a hindrance. Food didn’t smell great either, especially when the most prominent smell is truffle. If you like a cool space with thumping club music and you don’t care what kind of service you get and maybe you’re only drinking beer or mixed drinks, this may be the place for you. If you’re looking for charm, great wine and warm service, this is definitely not the spot for you. P. S. I asked for a glass of water and my bill at least several minutes before I started typing this review, and I still have yet to see either. Bill finally arrived, water never did. Adiós.

It is an alley literally. You can spot the manhole cover etc. the place is dark and crowded. Drinks were not that great. Service okayish. But nice place to chat and hangout

Four of us came here on a Wednesday night after dinner… was looking for a quick place to get a drink on Orchard. It felt very standard and average, but I was glad they had a menu of fruity cocktails. The four of us each got a drink, but then we saw a table of 3 girls receive a whole bunch of shots all at once. We were thinking they can’t possibly finish that themselves… so we asked the waiter what it was and they said they had an offer of $ 60 for 25 shots(your choice of a mix of lychee or apple). Each shot was basically a cocktail drink in a shot glass, but it still felt like a pretty good deal given that each of our fruit drinks was standard price($ 18ish). The service was meh. Once they aggressively got you to sit at their bar, order drinks, and pay(they hand you the bill right after you get your drink), they were much harder to flag down. We also paid $ 8 for a bottle of Fiji water, since they don’t serve free tap water. I would come here again for the cheap deal only and if I happen to be in the area and can’t find a quick and easy place to grab a drink. Even then, I might try one of the other average looking bars in the same lane that I haven’t tried before.

Used to be cool. But kind of past its prime. Bad cocktails didn’t help either.

Somehow I landed myself an impromptu date and after dinner, he wanted to take me to the Alley Bar as the Boy read from the internet that it is one of the best bars in the world. Oh well, the company was one of the best in the world but this bar is seriously not one of the best bars in the world. Drinks: The drinks menu was pretty standard and of average pricing($ 16 for a glass of house wine /$ 18 for a cocktail). The Boy’s dry whiskey according to him was okay-ish. Service: Meh — could be better. Took ages for them to clear our table — and the server did such a sloppy job swiping the junk(straws /mint leaves /tissue) off the table. Some fell onto the vacant stool and there was still a stray mint leaf left in front of me. The drinks were served quite promptly. Everyone seemed busy in this bar — no one really cared to check on us! Ambience: It was quite dark in there(hence, ‘alley’ bar) and so rather romantic if you ask me. And the wine and liquor racks behind the bar were the only lit-up ‘features’ in the bar … yeah, rather classy in the speakeasy-ish fashion. Location: It’s located on the left of Centrepoint, within Perankan Place — which is an integrated night-out establishment. At the front, you would see ‘Outdoors’ — an open-air restaurant. On the right of the restaurant, you would find Acid Bar which is a live music pub/bar … and as you walk further into the alley, you would find Alley Bar. Maybe a perfect date-night idea would be to start off at ‘Outdoors’ for a meal … then hit ‘Acid Bar’ for some live music … and finally ‘Alley Bar’ for a cozy chat. That sounds pretty good to me — especially when it’s raining dogs and cats out there.

Dark, sleek, noisy with air-conditioning at full blast is how I’d describe Alley Bar. It’s a little easy to miss if you don’t know the existence of the whole Emerald Hill area, which you kind of go through a walkway, somewhat next to Centre Point. Alley Bar plays acid jazz and funky beats and is somehow connected to Acid Bar and I also think the outdoor seating belongs to Alley Bar(though I’m not quite sure). It’s a nice place to chill and grab drinks pre-party — $ 22 for 3 Sols during Happy Hour is a decent rate. Happy Hour lasts til 9pm. While crowded, it’s not obscenely packed. This is where I’d come to grab a quick drink before /after dinner, and is also a good place to meet a date for drinks.
