Der Pschorr

Came in for a long lunch and was seated in a cozy corner. Beer was superb. Food was quick and made with obviously fine ingredients. Only reason this wasn’t a five star expirence was my meal wasn’t as hot as I would’ve liked. That being said I’ve never had Saurbraten more tender and succulent (sorry mom). If you’re looking for ‘echt bayernisch essen’ right near the market and the many more tourist orientated parts of München, come into Der Pschorr and get a Hellas and some great grub.

Mittlerweile Tradition hat bei mir der routinierte Besuch im Pschorr, wenn ich in München bin. Hier bekommt der Düsseldorfer, was er rustikales braucht. Leckere Haxe, geile Obatza, lecker Bier, dazu eine schöné, passende Location. Am Abend empfiehlt sich generell immer eine Reservierung, vor allem am Wochenende, da es sonst zu längeren Wartezeiten kommen kann. Super für mehrköpfige Gruppen.

— zentral gelegen; direkt am Viktualienmarkt
— sehr schöné, schlichte Ausstattung; gemütlich, aber eben nicht überladen
— äußerst zuvorkommender, freundlicher und vor allem sehr flinker Service
— ½ Schweinshaxe mit dem besten Knödel ever: 15.90 EUR
— Ochsenbrust mit Gemüse: 16.90 EUR
— Essen sehr lecker, üppige Portionen
FAZIT: absolut empfehlenswert! Tolles Essen und super Service!

Food was absolutely fantastic and the beer was of course, exactly what you’d expect (great)! We had an early dinner here while visiting Munich and it had a nicer/​fancier meal vibe to it. The inside of the restaurant is beautifully designed and adds a touch of class to that bier hall look.

Bayerische Küche auf höherem Niveau, im Braugasthof-​Ambiente, mit Touri-​Touch. So würde ich die Gaststätte «Der Pschorr» beschreiben.
Eigentlich passt alles und ist so wie erwartet: Das Lokal ist groß, aber trotzdem gerade noch bayrisch urig. Die Bedienung ist flott und salopp freundlich. Die Karte ist umfangreich, voll mit bayrischen Schmankerln — hochpreisig, aber wenn man dann die Portionsgrößen sieht und die Gerichte probiert, gerechtfertigt.
Lobend erwähnen möchte ich noch, dass bei der Auswahl der Zutaten sehr darauf geachtet wird, dass diese aus verantwortungsvollen Quellen kommen. Dies gilt besonders für das Fleisch — ohne das es in der bayrischen Küche (fast) nicht geht.
Bei entsprechender Witterung kann man im Biergarten, mit Blick auf den Viktualienmarkt, sitzen — sofern man einen Platz ergattern kann.
Ein Punkt Abzug, da es für «Einheimische» doch etwas zu touristisch ist.

Central location. Big hall. Expect to share seating with strangers, it is a hall after all. I sat with a couple of Swiss business women, and had a nice chat with them. The server offered free Prosecco for seating us together, though it wasn’t too much trouble.
Because it’s next to Munich’s Viktualien Markt and frequented by tourists, they do offer an English menu. I ordered their version of Salisbury Steak and a good ol’ Hacker-​Pschorr Helles beer. 3.5

Eine der besten Brauereigaststätten in München. Sehr gutes traditionelles Essen, sehr rascher und freundlicher Service und Bier frisch vom Holzfass gezapft. Absolut empfehlenswert für einen netten und leckeren Abend!

Redtaurants in prominenter Lage haben ja oft das Problem dass sie sich in Qualität nicht scheren müssen da die Gäste (Touristen) eh kommen und eh nicht wieder kommen. Nicht so hier. Der Pschorr ist ein schönes Beispiel wie es eigentlich sein kann. Und daher könne ich sehr gerne mit Gästen hier her — aktuell fast mein regelmäßiges Stammlokal für den Zweck.
Enttäuscht wurde ich bisher auch noch nicht. Die bayerischen Klassiker von Schwein können sich sehen lassen (ich bevorzuge in solchen Restaurants immer die Portion von der Haxe gegenüber der Portion Schweinsbraten) und auch das Geflügel hat auf anderen Tellern immer gut ausgesehen.
Für mich gibt’s aber natürlich hier nichts anderes als irgendwas vom murnau werdenfelser Rind. Von der Qualität des Fleisches kann man sich am besten mit den tartar überzeugen, ich selbst bevorzuge die schmorgerichte (Böfflamott!, wenn auch auf der Karte falsch geschrieben, und gehört da nicht standardmäßig ein Semmelknödel dazu? Egal, den hat mir die Bedienung ja auch gerne gebracht)
Die gekochte Rindvarianten –Tafelspitz und Co — freuen mich ebenfalls aber in erster Linie weil ich die klärte Suppe draus schätze. Tagessuppe diesmal: mit brätnockerl und ganzen Fleischscheiben. Absolute Empfehlung
Der Service dürfte etwas zulegen. Eine halbe Stunde lang leere Teller ansehen möchte niemand und dass sie es geschafft hatten, bei einer Reservierung für drei Personen die nicht gleichzeitig kamen, zwei in eine andere Ecke des Raumes zu setzen als den dritten das dürfte auch nicht passieren.

Auch hier zwischen Weihnachten und Neujahr die Hölle los. Die Bedienung flott, spürt freundlich und trotzdem eine «Ruhe vor dem Herrn». Wir wählten alkoholfreies Weißbier (interessanter Weise von Paulaner), dazu Lammherz an Salat mit Himmbeerdressing und Schweinshaxen. Beides ein absolutes Gedicht. Das Fleisch der Schweinshachse, welches Mann und Frau auch hätte lutschen können, ummantelt von Superkrosser Schwarte. Bei der Soße nahm mein Mann auch Nachschlag. Hein Salat harmonisch frisch. Das Herz würzig abgestimmt. Dazu gab es super Leckeres Bot. Die Atmosphäre war trotz hoher Frequenz angenehm. Bezüglich Rind, gibt es hier ein besonderes Angebot an Weiderind. Gibt’s beim nächsten mal. Es war etwas teurer aber absolut angemessen zur Qualität.

Sehr gemütlich, allerdings im großen Stil. Der Gastraum hat etwas von einem Hallencharakter, ist aber urbayrisch gestaltet. Man fühlt sich wohl.
Die Karte ist so gehalten, wie man das von einem bayerischen Wirtshaus erwartet: viel Fleisch, wenig Gemüse. Die Preise sind für die Münchner Innenstadt ok. Die Qualität ist sehr gut! Der Service funktioniert bestens.

Wir hatten heute ein Firmenessen mit Kunden und haben für drei Abende a 10 Personen innerhalb zwei Wochen reserviert.
Heute war der zweite Abend und wurden schon von Anfang an gefragt, kommen heute sicher 10 Personen? Wir haben mit den Plätzen einen Engpass .Dann bekamen wir oben einen Tisch für 10 Personen .
Erst kamen sechs Personen, später noch zwei.
Da wollte man uns schon ganz unfreundlich umsetzen obwohl oben noch alles frei war.
Dann kam der Hammer, als es ums bezahlen ging war schriftlich vereinbart dass wir die Rechnung unterschreiben und am letzten Tag die gesamte Rechnung begleichen .Am ersten Abend funktionierte das einwandfrei .
Heute konnte sich keiner mehr erinnern, die Bedienung holte eine Geschäftsführerin eine dunkelhaarige unfreundliche Person drohte uns vor unserer Kundschaft mit der Polizei.
Kein Wort ist gefallen, dass wir die Rechnung und die war nicht wenig nicht begleichen.
Wir sind seit Jahren Kunden im Pschorr und werden uns das nicht gefallen lassen.
Es gibt Gottseidank noch andere gute Lokale in der Gegend mit besseren Service.

what a suprising place in the heart of Munich.
Yes… it is a sad thing to say about a place in the capital of Bavaria. It is hard to find some nice Bavarian restaurant in this city, that is not too touristy (such as Hofbrau Haus). This place is a (relatively) new addition to the Viktualien Markt, a market in the heart of Munich, nex to the the Schrannenhalle (which sadly files for insolvency every couple of years and opens with a new concept). The Pschorr is always there and delivers.
Classic Bavarian rooted food, freshly prepared and locally sourced.
Especially the last one is a great thing in this more and more globalized world.
Werdenfelser beef (a local breed of cow), regional farmed fish, all done to perfection.
I was there with business partners and they loved it. personally I had an entrecôte with salad — and it was tender as one can ask for but in size big enough to feed at least two. This won’t be the last visit there.
Why not five stars? well. even as it feels almost like a traditional place it is overcrowded– and loud and feels very touristy (to the local boy).
Service is impeccable and very attentive and nice.

Im Grunde alles beim Alten. Prof. und freundlicher Service. Geschmacklich einwandfrei. Sportlich sind vor allem die Getränkepreise (Bier: 4,90 €)…

Food was great — very delicately cooked. Recommend the pan fried fish and goat cheese salad. On top all is locally sourced.
A beautiful terrace gives it the final touch for 5 stars.

Für urig bayerische Küche vielleicht etwas zu teuer, aber schneller und freundlicher Service, sowie rasche und leckere Zubereitung!

Wenn wir in München sind schauen wir gerne hier vorbei. Gibt es hier doch eine leckere Küche. Diesmal haben wir schon das obligatorische Wiener Schnitzel bestellt (eine echtes!) und ein Rinderhachsteak mit Ziegenkäse gefüllt auf Rucola und haben uns beides geteilt. Das Schnitzel ist immer bestens hier, aber das Hacksteak — nun ja, ich könnte nicht sagen, was leckerer war.
Und der Service ist sehr gut. Wir hatten reserviert (das sollte man am Wochenende auf jeden Fall!), waren aber 25 Minuten zu spät dran. Obwohl alles gut voll war, haben wir noch einen Platz bekommen.

Gluten free fail!
We asked for mashed potatoes instead of bread dumplings for my gluten free company and they suggested potato dumplings instead. I asked whether there was really no flour or bread in it and they confirmed. However, when the dumpling came it was topped with fried bread crumbs. We sent it back and they brought another one out without the topping. But: there was a breaded core to the dumpling.
Apparently if you want to eat gluten free here you will have to order natural schnitzel with veggies no other sides or sauce. Would have been nice to know that before ordering and not when paying.
For my meal: salty pork roast with crust. Average Bavarian food, ok portion size. Just not my usual cup of tea, probably good if you like pork. The gluten free fail really turned us off though, especially because the South of Germany is already so difficult to handle with all the breads and cakes etc.

We came back to Munich as tourist after living there for 10 years. We wanted to have a nice meal with our two daughters (6 and 8) in the city without getting into the crazy touristic places. Der Pschorr was a place my husband liked to visit back in the days, especially for their beer, so we headed there for lunch. The inside of the restaurant is especially nice and traditional but unfortunately it ends there with this place. Our waitress was completely confused with our order, came two times to ask again what we wanted without even being sorry for anything. The kids received a very nice kids menu with activities and drawings but when we kindly asked (two times, in German) for crayons to draw the waitress rolled the eyes and left without any explanations. Tell me why would you make and print out such a nice menu if the kids cannot use it? You expect us to bring crayons in case you forget — or didn’t dare — to get it first place? The food is good but way too expensive for what you get… I paid ca. 14euros for a simple plate of Spaetzle. Next time we visit Munich we’ll go back to our little local restaurants and avoid such places perfectly located in the center of the city, where tourists get the high prices and the worst customer service.

Etwas teuer, aber durchaus gutes Essen und nette Bedienung. Von innen macht das ganze schon schön was her. Allerdings war auf der Karte wenig was uns gleich zusagte. Wir entschieden uns für Obatzter und zwar eine Portion für zwei. Was auch gut war, den es war reichlich. Noch dazu zwei frische Brezeln und uns hat es gut geschmeckt. Das Radler war auch gut.

Awfully expensive for average Biergarten food. You’re definitely paying for the location (near the Deutsches Museum) rather than the quality. If you can, look for something else in the area.

Nette Atmosphäre. Freundliche Bedienung. Leckeres Essen. Idealer Standort am Viktualienmarkt. Angenehme Lautstärke. Gutes Bier. Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder.

If you’re looking for a classic Bavarian menu in a civilized yet bustling atmosphere, Der Pschorr is a good choice. It’s not really touristy and the menu is socially responsible, which is nice. We had the ¼ goose which was totally delicious and the prime rib with a mound of fresh grated horseradish. There is a kids menu, though in German only.

Spontane Einkehr nach Besuch des Milkastores… Wir ließen uns in der oberen Etage platzieren, in der Hoffnung, das man hier etwas mehr Ruhe für Frauengespräche hat.
Das Lokal war gut gefüllt und schon sehr weihnachtlich dekoriert.
Wir bestellten Zwiebelrostbraten mit frischem Marktgemüse, statt Kartoffeln wollten wir Kartoffelpüree und als zweites Gericht Roulade mit Gemüse und Kartoffelpüree.
Die Portionen waren mehr als ausreichend, das frische Gemüse auf den Punkt gegart und noch sehr knackig anzusehen. Der Zwiebelrostbraten kam wie bestellt medium und war mit frischen Rosmarinzweigen und leckeren Zwiebelringen dekoriert. Der Preis aufgrund der Qualität durchaus gerechtfertigt. Die Roulade wurde in zwei Teilen auf dem Teller platziert, gefüllt mit Kraut, saurer Gurke und Möhre. Eine leckere Variante der bayrischen Küche. Auch dieses Gericht wurde mit mehreren Zweigen frischem Rosmarin dekoriert. Das Püree war etwas fester, aber sehr lecker.
Die Bedienung war stets freundlich.
Es waren viele nationale und internationale Geschäftsleute aber auch Jung und Alt, Touristen und Einheimische zugegen.
Immer wieder gern. Hier weiss man, warum es etwas teurer ist.

Das beste Bier aus München. Rustikal und uhrige Brauhaus Atmosphäre neu aufgezogen.
Regionale Qualität und gute Auswahl.
Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Nice food and beer, but somebody has to teach these guys and girls the basics in friendliness ;-)

After you’ve done the touristy Hofbrahaus stuff, this is the kind of place to go for a real Bavarian meal!
Not sure how often it’s on the menu, but I ordered the prime rib with grated horseradish (one of the daily specials) and it was incredible!
The location is great: a roomy hall with lots of bench seating, classic wood interior, the whole nine yards.
Of course, the beer was equally great — notable that they keep a tapped «gravity barrel» of beer going at all times.

Brauhaus und gutes Essen abseits von Stelze, Schweinebraten & Co. Geht das? Ja im Pschorr. Abgesehen davon, dass das Bier hervorragend ist, ist das Essen definitiv höherwertiger als in den meisten anderen Brauhäusern. Tiefer muss man allerdings auch in die Tasche greifen. Eine Halbe Helles um EUR 4,70 grenzt schon an moralisch verwerflich! Den meisten Touristen wird es egal sein, denn Bier ist in deren Heimat noch teurer.
Mir hat es dennoch gefallen.

Schönwetterbonus. Ansonsten enttäuschend. Positiv ist zu beurteilen, dass von der Bestellung bis zur Darbietung der Speise keine zwei Minuten vergingen. Die halbe Haxe war lauwarm und kaum zu genießen. Der Kellner hatte die «Münchner Freundlichkeit», welche sicherlich schon viele von Euch genießen konnten. Außer einem «Servus» kannte er scheinbar keine weiteren Worte und im ganzen Satz zu sprechen, ist nicht jedermanns Sache. Auch muss man preislich mit den «Innenstadtbonus» klar kommen. Das Preis/​Leistungsverhältnis steht in einen ganz schlechten Zusammenhang. Es war ein Versuch, aber morgen wird’s wohl wieder das «Orlando» werden.

With a 6.5-hour layover in Munich, I knew I had to get out of the airport even if to just get a small taste of the city.
My friend (another Jelena!) lives close to the city center and recommended I take the train to Marienplatz so we could grab lunch and walk around a bit. Exactly what I wanted to do before an 11-​hour flight back to San Francisco later that afternoon — stretch my legs, eat something better than typical airport fare, and sneak in some sight-​seeing.
Apparently, Sunday isn’t the best day to experience Munich but my pal suggested we check out Der Pschorr as they were open (yay!) and feature a comprehensive menu with plenty of traditional Bavarian fare and Hacker-​Pschorr brews.
The restaurant is rather large and bright, and we were quickly led to an upstairs table with a nice view. We both ordered the spaetzle, which was mixed with melted cheese and crispy onions (check out my photo for a visual of the deliciousness!). And talk about a huge portion — I was able to put a pretty decent dent into my plate, but only because I was especially hungry (I hadn’t eaten anything for almost 18 hours).
Good value considering the portion size and everything tasted quite fresh… the food wasn’t revolutionary by any means, but it was tasty and it hit the spot. As for the beer — I’ve always been a fan of Hacker-​Pschorr Weiss and as one would expect, it tasted even better in its birthplace.
A lovely lunch that I’d be happy to repeat.

A really nice beer house next to the Viktualienmarkt and when the biergarten at the market is full this is an excellent option only a few meters away.
The bier is great and the food is also good. The menu is quite extensive and there is something for everyone. The Obatzda here is excellent and the pretzels they serve with it are fresh and chewy and taste delicious.
I would love to come back here for dinner or lunch one day and try other menu items. The service started off a bit poorly but after a while it really improved a whole lot. We all enjoyed our afternoon there and I look forward to my return soon.

Had an afternoon weiss beer here several times and our final dinner. Good food, waitress was a bit slow (in many ways). Still, I would come back.

I had already had currywurst at another spot for lunch, so I just stopped in here for a beer after walking around the market across the street. The atmosphere is pretty cool, a lot of people sitting on the patio having beers and food and talking. I did not see any open seats or tables, so I went inside and asked for a beer. It was a little awkward, because I was in the way of all the servers grabbing beers for people sitting down. Note to self, find a seat first then order from the waiter or waitress. Anyway, ordered a Helles Lager, 0.5 L for 5,50 Euro and then walked outside and found an empty stool in the shade. I’m visiting the city solo on business, but I’d like to go back here with friends sometime. The beer was pretty good and the food coming out looked tasty.

«Wir möchten ins Brauhaus» war die Ansage.
Also schlug unser Freund Tobias den «Pschorr» vor und reservierte dort einen Tisch für 19:00 Uhr.
In den Räumen einer alten Scheune befindet sich also dieses Brauhaus.
Es gibt die normale Speisekarte sowie eine «Brotzeiten”-Karte, auf der sich kleinere Speisen, wie z.B. Suppen und Salate, befinden.
Wir bekamen einen Patz oben auf der Galerie und direkt beide Karten in die Hand gedrückt. Die Qual der Wahl sage ich Euch ;-)
Nach wirklich langem Hin und Her Überlegen (zwischenzeitlich hatten wir schon glücklicherweise die Getränke geordert), fiel meine Wahl auf das Wiener Schnitzel, mit Salat, Bratkartoffeln und Preiselbeeren. Ich muss sagen, ich fand das Schnitzel sehr, sehr lecker, muss aber auch gleichzeitig zugeben, dass ich den feinen Unterschied zum Schweineschnitzel vom Hot Shot vom Vortag nicht wirklich rausschmecken konnte (hoffentlich ernte ich Schnitzelbanause jetzt keine Buh-​Kommentare). Ja ich gebe es aber hiermit zu: ob Schwein, ob Kalb, Hauptsache das Schnitzel schmeckt mir!
Während die Entscheidung für ein Gericht solange dauerte, kam dafür das Essen in Sekundenschnelle an unseren Tisch. Und auch die Bezahlung ging flott.
Als Nachtisch gönnte man sich dann noch den «süßen Klassiker»:
Warmer Apfelstrudel. hmmmm lecker!
Der Weg zu den Toiletten kann, je nachdem wo man sitzt, schon ein paar Minuten dauern, nach ein paar Maß kommt es einem sicherlich wie eine halbe Weltreise vor.
Mir hat aber gerade darum das Pschorr von den Räumlichkeiten sehr gut gefallen, denn die Tische waren gut verteilt und man kam sich nicht beengt vor.
Tobias, das war eine gute Wahl!

Prices are a bit high, but you definitely get a lot of food for your money. On a scale of 0 – 10, I give the food an 8. Not out of this world, but you won’t leave complaining. Drinks are expensive, but beer is quite good. Very friendly for tourists.

The places interior is a fusion of traditional and modern elements. Its very spacious and has two levels.
You get a lot of food for your money. Its fresh and tastes very good. The staff was friendly even though the place was packed.
It didn’t take long to get the drinks and the food.
Nice place, a bit above the average brewery restaurant.

My son, mother and I went there a week ago, it was absolutely fantastic! We had a wonderful Waitress; there was one mistake with our appetizer order. I had ordered the blood sausage and she thought I meant the bratwurst. I can’t blame her any more then myself for my lack of German, but in the end they switched it out with very little annoyance.
I don’t know how the home made bratwurst would have tasted it looked great, but the blood sausage was out of this world, if you like that kind of thing. Best I have had hands down. I also order the duck, the crispy skin was out of this world, and my mother had the short ribs witch was an excellent choice.
The Best order hands down was my son’s, he order the MASSIVE rib dinner, it came on its own cutting board and was filled with 4 ½ LBS cuts of Beef rib meat, that’s right 2 LBS of the best beef Munich had to offer. He knocked out a little over ½ before he threw in his napkin. It was delicious.
The beer was great as to be expected.
Unexpectedly my son and I came back a few days later to get 2 of there stuff animal mascots as presents. The Manger was kind enough to give us those for free since it was Christmas Eve.
There beef was out of this world and I would have come back alone for that but the customer service exceeded all our expectation that we could ever imagine!!!
With out a doubt the best meal and best service we had on our 8 day stay in Munich, don’t miss out on this gem.

Hacker-​Pschorr is my favourite Munich beer, so this place has an advantage from the start. The other main thing I like about this place is that their menu takes local meats seriously. It’s a convenient place for tourists as they have English menus and the waiters generally speak good English. Our service has always been pretty good but it’s been faster downstairs. As someone else mentioned, their patio is very nice on a sunny day, which unfortunately means it’s difficult to get a table there, but give it a try, you may get lucky! The location is conveniently close to both Viktualienmarkt and the new Käfer-​dominated market in the Schrannenhalle (though in Viktualienmarkt there is also the biergarten as a nice alternative). This is not a must-​visit for a tourist but can definitely be recommended for good Bavarian food and great Munich beer.

Once again, I wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. We had breakfast here one morning, the standard weisswurst, pretzel and weiss beer. The beer was the best beer I had the whole trip… incredibly smooth and tasty. That was probably the highlight of the visit. Our waiter was nice enough but forgot to bring us things even though there weren’t many tables at the time. The wurst was good enough.
