I nipped in with family for lunch. It looks good from the outside and the Hungarian lady who served us was very friendly and professional. The food was little short of vile.
The Cullen Skink was missing any fish and tasted like canned potato soup. The cod was drizzled in balsamic vinegar and powdered with raw bread crumbs (??) It was simply disgusting. The «chefs» in this place clearly have absolutely no idea what they are doing. I wouldn’t eat here again if I was paid to do so.

Cool and quaint hotel. A bit split up as far as rooms and floors go. It was opened in 1786, so go figure. Hot showers. Nicely painted rooms. Clean, but sparse amenities. The staff were excellent. The breakfast was so-​so.

Had some lunch here today and was impressed by portion size and price! Staff were helpful and we weren’t bothered or rushed at all which contributed to a relaxed meal. Restaurant was empty (it was a Monday while most were working!)
Menu had the same as most others in the area (steak pie, fish & chips, Mac n cheese) but there were a few different items in the menu which gave us options. Would definitely eat here again.

Good space for hosting events, however we won’t be using them again due to poorly organised staff who were very hard to work with on organising our Christmas ceilidh. Some issues on the night of the event put a downer on the evening for our committee who we’re meant to be celebrating. Hopefully the hopeless member of staff dealing with our booking has since been relocated, as it could be a wonderful place to hold events if staff were amicable.

It’s been 2 years since last review and how things have changed. Ordered a glass of wine, steak pie. How could you go wrong ?
Steak pie was the most unappetising effort I have ever seen. School dinners were better than this. It looked as it was made sometime in the distant past and was quickly microwaved ugh ! Wine was not particularly good either. The excuse given by the management «that’s how we make it»
Will be avoiding this place in future

for lunch, and it was fantastic and spectacular value. For £10 we had our choice of two of six lunch specials and we chose steak and ale pie with chips and scampi. Both were excellent and the presentation and service was first rate. We had the choice of eatiing in the Library Bar or in the white table cloth Golden Lion restaurant. The regular menu also looked to be good value, but how can you bet two lunches for £10? With a large bottle of sparkling water and tip it was about £15.
It’s a decent walk from Stirling Castle, but well worth it. A real find!
