I love Blue Mondays were a lot of the more expensive dishes are cheaper. The octopus balls are particularly great! The only thing that puts me off is it looked like they were cooking from frozen?!

Best of Brighton Challenge: Week 4 My favourite Brighton spot. Well for me it has to be Yo Sushi. I absolutely love sushi and their prices are reasonable. They also offer ‘blue Mondays’ which is great for me as I feel I have to go for it. The booth seats are great for groups of around 6 or you can sit ‘right by the tracks’ if there is only 2 of you. Another thing I love is that being a fish lover and knowing my partner isn’t, we can still go there as they offer some wonderful vegetable, chicken and beef dishes. Win win!

I love coming here, especially on a Monday to take advantage of Blue Monday where plates are £2.70. I hadn’t been in a long time so it was nice to see some new dishes. My favourites were still on there — pumpkin korroke, prawn katsu, gyozas and still taste as delicious! We tried a few dishes that neither of us liked, I’m not sure of their policy for replacing dishes if you don’t like it as you are picking them yourself, but as they were only cheap, we didn’t mind paying for them. We ordered some dishes from our waitress, sadly only some turned up. One was taken to the wrong table who sent it away and we tried to call the chef back to get our dish, but they had disappeared already so we never got that one. Another dish just never appeared so after waiting a long time I let the waitress aware we didn’t want it anymore. So I must admit I was a little disappointed on this occasion, but I will be back none the less.

I think it’s a little pricey. But that’s because I am greedy and when I eat out, I want both quality and quantity. People who own 15inch plates eat 30% more in calories than everyone else. So the cute little dishes at Yo Sushi have their benefits. The plates here are too smart and colourful though. They mislead you. Before you know it, you’re staring lazy eyed at a tower of dishes in front of you. As you try and calculate your total bill, you give up. This is not the time for maths. But is it the time for chewy, chocolatey doughy Japenese rice deserts? No, it’s never time for them.

I love Yo Sushi. I really really do! Especially on Blue Mondays, where all the plates are super cheap! My favourites are they Duck gyoza and the chicken katsu curry. Delightful little bowls of goodness. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the staff are always nice too. I need to go to Yo Sushi more.

Ever since I saw the movie Johnny English, I had been slightly put-off by conveyor belt sushi restaurants but, several years ago, when I first stepped into Yo Sushi, all my fears quickly disappeared. I know it’s a big chain and there are plenty of other great independent sushi places around Brighton, but I just can’t help but love this place. It’s so much fun to eat here and I have enjoyed myself each time, without fail. They have a very formulaic system which ultimately works very well. The pricing system is easy and effective — with each dish displayed on a different coloured place and each colour indicating which price bracket it falls into. This is great because it means you’re very much in control of what you’re spending and you can calculate the price of your meal out really easily. That being said, it’s very easy to wrack up a gigantic bill in here! You can easily get caught up in the fun and forget! The sushi is great! It’s freshly made and it tastes delicious. They have loads of different options to try so there’s pretty much something for everyone. They have sashimi and sushi along with great salad dishes and hot mains that can be ordered off the menu. The staff in this Yo Sushi are particularly friendly, as well, which is great! Whether serving you at your table or helping you with a take-away, they’re always very polite and smiley. It may lack the charm and authenticity of other independent sushi places, but Yo Sushi just works for me! It’s a great, easy spot to drop in and grab some comsistently tasty sushi at a reasonable price. I’ll be back, no doubt!

Fun experience — mediocre food. Sushi in the US is hands down much tastier.

Yo Sushi is the silliest place I have ever eaten in my life. The sushi is unremarkable, so they send it whizzing past you on a conveyor belt and hope you will be dazzled by speed and colors and wow! future is now! The mochi were cute, but isn’t cute the very nature of mochi? I can’t figure out if I liked it better, or worse, for the conveyor belt.

Yo Sushi is one of the few chain restaurants that I frequent these days. OK, its not the best sushi restaurant out there but it certainly fills a gap in the market. I especially like Blue Mondays — all dishes priced at £2.30. I always think this will lead to a cheap meal. Unfortunately, it just encourages me to eat more and I still never leave with a bill less than £20! Mondays used to be really busy due to this offer, but recently there has been a bit more space which allows for a more comfortable dining experience, and less eve’s dropping on other people’s conversation. I love the miso soup here, and love the fact you get free refills even more. Edemame, sashimi and tempura prawns are a must, plus I tried the spicy chicken ISO on my last visit on the recommendation of Jenny L, yum. Order the hot food off the menu instead of the conveyor belt, this ensures it gets to you hot and fresh. Don’t bother with the puddings, there is nothing that will particularly blow you away. Staff are always really friendly and helpful, both the servers and the chefs. I also like that the food is prepared in the middle so you can watch everything being done. One word of advise — don’t wear a white top when chop sticks, soy sauce and a lack of expertise are involved in dinner!

Very creative, well prepared dishes of stunningly good veggie items(pumpkin in particular!). Recommended for a quick light lunch stop-off.

I like this place for the novelty factor. But its over priced, but you don’t notice it much as those little dishes that come round on the belt range from about £2.50 to about £6… but stack a few of those on and its easily about £20 per head. Also the selection of food on offer pretty limited at lunchtime. For good Japanese food in Brighton, there’s better places to go…

Sushi is one of my favourite dishes and I do frequent the Yo places quite a bit up in London so I was over the moon when one sprouted up in my home town. The first thing I thought though was they are going to be in direct competition with moshi moshi and they are hard to compete with. I think it fails to come anywhere near the standard of its rival. The service was pretty poor and quite slow and the place seemed to be staffed by un-interested students who just wanted to get you in and out of the door asap. The sushi tasted great but the portions were quite small and didn’t really reflect the price. Real shame.

I feel slightly ashamed to admit just how excited I get by Yo! Sushi. The combination of ultra-modern décor and the endless multitude of brightly coloured little bowls containing my favourite foods going round and round in circles makes me immensely happy. I have been to other(better) sushi restaurants but none of them seem quite so, well, cool. Ok, I know it’s a chain and it does work out fairly expensive(I never spend less than £20 per head) but I think it’s worth it for the novelty. The wine is slightly overpriced(at about £5 a glass), but I don’t often drink here(and the bottomless miso soup goes some way to making up for it.) Without a doubt, the best time to go here is on their ‘Blue Mondays’ when every dish is £2.20 the same price as their blue plates are normally. During this offer the selection isn’t as extensive as usual(unless it’s me imagining it?), but it’s still pretty damn good. There are also usually discounts to be found online, like 50% off vouchers, so it’s well worth giving Yo! Sushi offers a Google before you head out.

Sushi-go-rounds will excite even the most hardened homosapians, who doesn’t want to see what could be their dinner travelling around on an adventure before it’s ultimate demise? But that excited does eventually wear off and disappointment ensues. The food choice here is of plenty but can become expensive after a few dishes, Blue Mondays is good though as all plates are half price. Extra detective work is required to suss out some the actual veggie dishes but when you do they’re worth it. I heard a few people complaining about the staff and service but I always found them to more than accommodating.

I’m in love with Japan. Games, films, animé clothes, culture history… and now cuisine. Yo Sushi is a damned tasty, wonderfully laid out little establishment that turns everything I thought I knew about restaurants on its head! Sitting around the kitchen — which is open on all sides so you can see each meal prepared — a small conveyor belt runs in front of you carrying dishes of various colours and varyingly severe prices. The number you pick up depends on your appetite, but some of the pricey-er ones work out as pretty good value… But! Head there on any Monday, and you’ll enjoy a blue Monday… Not blue as in «your looking rather blue today» blue as in «you mean everything is only £2.20?!». You will have to pay extra if you want to nab yourself the top tear(£5.90) meals, but that’s understandable when you see that these are practically the size of curries anyway. If what you are after isn’t coming around, you can always ask for it especially. You must, Must! do this for at least one, if not two dishes… Tempura, and hairy prawns… If you are adventurous, jump in and try them. But if you need a little more info, pop over their website and take a goosey loosey at what each has to offer… Who knows, you may end up buying take out too?

In general, Yo Sushi doesn’t really float my boat. Whilst conceptually I enjoy the space-age colourful food pods whizzing around me, the process of choosing my food actually makes me a little anxious. I feel like there’s only a small window of time for decisions to be made, before the sushi has either passed me by or been snapped up by a neighbour. This is, of course, ridiculous– I could always get up and chase my sushi down the conveyor belt! Aside from anxiety issues, I also find it to be a little pricey– you can’t really eat a substantial amount without spending between £10-£15. Also, is the sushi actually that good? Fair enough, I have been spoilt by years of Californian sushi, but I make great sushi at home, so what’s the deal? However, you can’t argue with free miso soup(I always order at least 2 or 3 bowls!) and they do great offers if you sign up to their mailing list– 40% vouchers and the like. What I do like about this Yo Sushi is that it looks out towards the Jubilee library square, which(dare I say it) is quite visually pleasing for a new development. I also really like the Mango pudding and the Dorayaki is delicious, for those with a sweet tooth!

Californian Roll Pumpkin Korroke Salmon Terriyaki Vegetable Firecracker Rice Miso Black Cod Just remembering eating at Yo Sushi makes my mouth water. As well as offering a vast selection of fresh and wholesome nigiri, sashimi, maki and nori handwrapped, sushi — you can get noodles, rice, raw and cooked tuna, salmon, prawns, chicken and veggies. All the dishes are priced according to the colour of the plate they’re served on — so if you’re on a budget, make sure you glance at the plate before you swoop it off the conveyor belt! At £1.70 and £2.20 respectively, the green and blue plates are the cheapest and the pink and grey are the most pricey at £3.50 and £5.00. The lay-out of this particular branch means all the seats are positioned around the kitchen — so you get to see the chefs prepare, cook and add new dishes to the conveyor belt. They also serve damn good, miso soup.

This was the first Yo Sushi I ever went to and had me hooked from the start — and I don’t even like fish! That is one thing that is commonly misunderstood about Yo Sushi: there is lots of choice for meat eaters and vegies as well as fish lovers.
