Books are so 20th century, but it’s cool to visit if you want to check out awesome architecture!

Well, I was really pleased to come across Jubilee library. Opposite to many libraries I had to visit in my life, it doesn’t have that smell of old, mouldy books, nor you’ll find here rubbish hundred years old worthless and forgotten literature, often sold in charity shops. First thing I found lovely about it, was a corner, where small, unknown artists are selling their works — I am always curiuos to have a look, what poeple nowadays are creating ;) Then, there is a ‘souvenir shop’, with a lot of cute small things — I believe, it could be good start for children to make them more excited about a visit to the library. Oh! If you’re always looking for original and non-mainstream postcards/greeting cards(particularly for sophisticated mums), check out library shop :) The library itself is spaciuos and bright. Glass wall gives a good sense of freedom and space. Good atmosphere for chilled study or reading. There is also a café, which is quite exciting(knowing that in the rest of the libraries, you’re not allowed to drink coffee and read books at the same time!) And there are sections for kids and youth, which is very important in terms of educating children. As in most of libraries, there are computers you can use and wi-fi. The only issue, as mentioned before, is lack of books, which is the most important component of the library. If was checking for ‘lord of the flies’, several times, which is essential literature, and to my disappointment, I couldn’t find it! Well, also sections are slightly messed up. It’s good that there are let’s say, separate displays for new books, or books, worth exploring, but as a critical reader, I could hardly sort out, which book is good, which is not as they all were pretty much mixed up. I think books should be organised and displayed in clearer manner. Anyway, even if want to concentrate on your own book, and you’re looking for light, relaxing, and quite atmosphere(especially if weather is not too good outside), you should come alomg to the library. :)

This library has been recently revamped to a small extent to accomodate more study space with the incorporation of «micropods». They remind me of a gents toilets booth. phone booth or sushi bar where you perch yourself cheek by jowl on a stool next to the next sardine with a laptop. Unfortunately like building more capacity into a motorway it has had the effect of attracting more students. I would go so far to say that this library is an annex to the university and is only available to students. In addition I saw mentioned in another review that this place has toilets, well only if you know the keypad number and there is no where to leave your bike.
