I had my first Unilocaler meet-up here with the beautiful Gemma G. Of course she beat me to reviewing this place… she is such a Unilocaler! :) The place was quite as we were the only people there, but the seating was comfortable, the vibe was warm, and the space we sat at was nice and cozy. The wine list was a bit overwhelming, but I found a nice Argentinian white that was yummy. Full list of drinks too… and Absinthe! We enjoyed scallops, a yummy cheese plate and veggie caviar. Perfect mid day break, wonderful company. Would come again for sure.

I had my first Unilocaler meet-up here with the lovely Philip M, and what a enjoyable way to wile away a rainy Tuesday afternoon. Yes, we were the only people in here, and it was quite interesting to watch the bar staff paint the stairwell while we sat drinking our wine, but this place certainly has potential. I will definitely be coming back for a return visit of an evening. They have a very comprehensive wine list that would take a good while to read, let alone work your way through! I played it safe and had a large glass of Rioja, and then helped Philip out with his bottle of Argentinian white. I’m sure the bar staff would be happy to help out if you wanted a recommendation, or just were unable to make a decision. Food wise, they have a full menu as well as a tapas menu, ideal for grazing on steadily through the afternoon. Highlights were the scallops, aubergine caviar, and cheese plate. Again, I would like to come back here of an evening and attack their dinner menu with gusto. The place itself has a nice ambience — you are surrounded by wine bottles and the staff natter away to each other in French, you could almost be in a little wine bar in the heart of Paris…

This place is absolutely fantastic. If you’ve got a fair bit of cash to splash and are after a really top-notch meal then you’ve got to get yourself to In Vino Veritas. I came here for the first time last month with my friends from Elwood Wines( ) and had what was probably the best meal I have ever eaten in Brighton. Determined to stuff ourselves silly, we started in the bar area with the Tapas/Canapé menu which included the most delicious charcuterie plate, king prawns and deep fried mozzarella(£3.95 each) along with our first bottle of wine — I think it was the Hoher Rain, Gruner Veltliner, Geyerhof(£34). Not usually to my taste(a little oaky), but a great accompaniment to the cured meats and seafood. After this fabulous appetizer, we moved up the spiral staircase to the restaurant area. I started with the Seared Scallops(£7.85) — which were deliciously buttery and cooked to absolute perfection — before moving onto one of my favourite dishes: Rib Eye Steak with Pommes Frites and Green Peppercorn Sauce(£16.75). Divine. Far too full for real dessert, we ended the meal in the most perfect way — with a strong, creamy liqueur coffee. After four courses and as many bottles of wine(not all to myself, I hasten to add) I felt thoroughly satisfied. Although it would take months, perhaps even years, to work through their incredibly extensive wine list( ) I can’t wait to go back again and start trying.

I was looking for lamb on and this place came up… i didn’t know what it was, but the profile and menu looked brilliant, not to mention the wine list. I am bored of the same selection everywhere, these guys know what good wine is! It will take a lifetime to try all of them, but I will try my best…

This is a tasteful and well designed wine bar that offers some of the best ‘vino’ that can be found in the Sussex area. I am not a huge fan of wine, but having decided to try and increase my limited knowledge, I came here. The staff helped explain what different regions offered in different styles of wine, and where were the best places to better my novice knowledge. This is a very nice place, where the atmosphere is relaxed and enjoyable. I would point out that drinks are expensive, most wines are above £4, but for the quality you receive, that isn’t a huge surprise.

In Vino Veritas in primarily a posh wine bar and has a great selection so I’m told(I dont know anything about wine I’m afraid). Its a great little north Laines venue with a a cosy candle lite atmosphere but still quiet swish and posh. There a spiral staircase that runs through the middle of the venue. They have a dining area upstairs with a modern European menu, seating is scares and the venue is popular with winos so call ahead.

A fabulous little bar and french eatery for the wine conscious, I wish there were more like it in Brighton, but I am a fan of the grape. It’s a cushy little wine keg based interior with a spiral staircase in between two floors. They have over 200 wines on offer which is a pretty astounding collection. By the glass is a reasonably priced selection of around 30 wines, then over a hundred more by the bottle. They have a good selection of German Riesling of which a good bottle is not too common in most places, other wines come from pretty much everywhere you can grow a grape plus lots of fruity extras.

In Vino Veritas is an extremely swanky wine bar come diner that attracts the kind of crowd that it sounds like it would do. The waiter that served me my coffee was very polite, and did not seem at all snobby. However when the wine lovers arrived, he was very capable in naming and describing and seemed to have an impeccable memory, being able to name the wines the diners had had some weeks earlier, and recommending similar bottles that had entered into season since. I had a bit of a poke around upstairs as well to see what it looked like for restaurant use(in case I needed to impress someone at short notice) and was not surprised to overhear that the restaurant was fully booked by 5:30. So if you have deeper pockets than us student types, it may be a place to phone ahead and visit. Otherwise, its perfectly pleasant to sit in and enjoy a coffee or two in some pleasant surroundings.

In Vino Veritas can be found on the outskirts of the North Laines, its a cosy and swish little venue with a wine bar downstairs and dining upstairs. Not knowing wine I’m not going to attempt to give an opinion on the selection except that it’s vast. The interior décor is modern with candle and a spiral stairs case to the restaurant. They also offer ‘Wine Classes; where everyone fro novice’s to enthusiasts can some along and learn a thing or two about wine. These events happen once a month and each one specialises in a specific region. The menu is variety of modern European deliciousness with ratatouilles, steaks and grilled seabass. All are seasoned gorgeously which makes up for the slightly high price for mains.

I had heard from a friend that I must visit this place and when I went here for a friends birthday on the bottom floor(didn’t know it had other levels!) I was genuinely surprised at how good it was. The wine list is extensive with many of the wines available by the glass. And of the ones I choose — I honestly thought they were amazing considering the price. I even drank slower to savour what I had! I’ve heard the food is good too so will go back again if anything to try more wines.
