I come here for the gelato! They change their lineup of flavors every once in awhile, so keep coming back to see what’s new! It’s a cute little café that offers Publika-goers another place to hang out. As Eveline mentioned in her review, they have nasi lemak gelato. It tastes ridiculously like nasi lemak! If you can allow yourself to get over the savory flavor of a scoop of gelato, I can imagine it’s quite enjoyable. I personally love their pistachio flavor and have recently stumbled upon their lavender/honey gelato– which is reminiscent of flavors I’d find in gelato shops back home in the states nowadays when the shop is feeling creative. I often pair those flavors with a scoop of their dark chocolate. Their Whimsical Affogato looks most interesting with it’s concoction topped by fairy floss, but I have yet to give it a go. The one dessert I tried — the crème brûlée in mousse«Guiyana»(something like that) — was as memorable as its name. I found it a bit too sweet and not really what I was hoping it would be. As I said, though, I come here for the gelato. Overall, Whimsical is truly a fun addition to the area and option for when your sweet tooth wants something cold.

Famous for their nasi lemak ice cream, I know I have to get it when I visit Whimsical. They offer samplings at the front counter at their shop which you can try their flavours before deciding what to get. So nasi lemak ice cream might sound weird but trust me it is GOOD! You can taste the nasi, the sambal, the anchovies! It is like eating nasi lemak in ice cream form. Their flavours change from time to time. According to their staff, the best sellers are coconut and gula melaka, bandung and chocolate. I would say their ice creams are quite tasty but not the best. I also tried the cotton candy affogato which is served with their coconut and gula melaka ice cream. It was quite decent. Price wise, it is quite pricey as the serving size of the ice cream is pretty small. They also have a big variety of other food other than ice cream. Maybe I will come in another time to try their other offerings.

After dinner, my fiancé, her sisters and I wanted to get some dessert. And since we were in Publika, her eldest sister suggested Whimsical Gelateria & Caffe. She told us that they serve salmon ice cream. Interesting flavour. It reminded me of the time when I tried fish and chips ice-cream flavour when I was still studying in Perth. And it was totally weird. They even have nasi lemak flavour ice-cream. I’d pass that. I gotta say they do serve a really good cup of coffee. I had a piccolo. It was good At the same time, the non-creative and funky ice-cream flavours were decent too.

Whimsical at Publika is definitely tied up with gelato! The café’s design is quite simple but neat with nature elements such as the wooden tables and chairs, decorated with mini plants and stones. Its gelato has lots of flavours which are so unique! I just wanted to immediately try all of them when I first saw the menu, including rose and berries, thyme, black sesame, Sangria, coconut and gula Melaka, rum and raisin, pineapple tart and so many more! My friend told me there was a Nasi Lemak gelato which is available at certain times only(I wonder how it taste…). Other than gelato, it has other foods include burgers, toasts, and mostly desserts such as waffles, pancakes, cakes, etc. I found a special beverage called cotton candy affogato that is very cute and suitable for ladies. You can see the white cotton candy surround the coffee cup like a pillow, a small hot affogato will be given to pour on the cotton candy, and then melt slowly into the cup. My friend thought it would be very sweet but it didn’t! The cotton candy will eventually evaporate, only half of it will melt into the coffee so it is still okay~ Come over and have a girls’ talk while enjoying all these pretty and delicious food!

Whimsical @ publika lives up to the name! My friends and I have been wanting to try the new café that has got everyone buzzin all over the gram(instagram) so we just had to check it out ! I absolutely love their waffles crispy yet fluffy, a delight in every bite and you can top it with their delicious artisan ice-cream from Cielo Dolci! They are also known for their cotton candy coffee, they serve fluffy pancakes and a big breakfast meal that comes with waffles instead of toast and is good for those who want a hearty meal to start their day! As a snack I love their mozzarella sticks topped with a drizzle of honey, I don’t know how but it just works!

In the world of branded ice cream, this is one of the more whimsical ones, for its flavors are usually ranging from the obligatory to the eerily weird. Does it taste good? Eh… No. Look, I am not a huge fan of ice cream with prices that can match the price of two meals of a normal human being. I am also not a huge fan of ice cream being ‘branded’, as though the price is not a justification of its glorification. You can eat your whimsical desserts there, with their gelatos being one of their main selling points, or their main courses, where their carbonara reigns supreme, and it should be, because who knows, the sauce itself is made into ice cream itself. I kid, I kid. But if you are a huge fan of practicality, this is definitely not the place to go. Just get away from here.

I came across this place in social media and i thought of giving it a try. It was 4pm and i was hungry for snack, so i thought of coming here with my partner for tea. Situated just outside same row as Dr Café. Thank god it was not crowded. What to eat for tea? Since i never had a super nice waffle before i thought of giving the waffle a try and to try why is it RM18 for just a waffle including ceilo dolci vanilla ice cream. The waffle was served and presented neatly on my table top with almonds. The cripsy in the outside and yes finally i dont taste the flour taste and i taste a real waffle a well mix of bater to make a waffle. One of the most satisfying overprice waffle i have ever tasted and not to mention, coffee is a must. The flat white is good. Definitely coming back here again to try the main course and the cotton coffee.

So. Nasi Lemak anyone? Wait I forgot the word Ice Cream behind that. Yep, Nasi Lemak Ice Cream, I’m sure at some point in your lives, the thought if this happening ran by. I was sceptical at first, thinking that its probably just artificial flavors, man was I wrong. It was made with real sambal, filled with anchovies and peanuts. I’m here to say that its the worst tasting Ice Cream I’ve had in my life. The thing is, the tub was almost empty compared to other flavors and people were saying about how they liked it. Me however, not a fan. It just doesn’t taste right from every angles. Really smart for making the idea happen though. I also had a change to try the Waffles with some Rum & Raisin and Coconut Gelato. The waffles were only average and there was nothing special to brag about. The Gelato on the other hand, was nice and refreshing. The flavor and texture were just right. I heard that the Brunch Set here comes with a Bacon flavored Ice Cream, but I haven’t got the chance to try it yet. WIll definitely be back for that.

Food: 3⁄5 Décor: 3⁄5 Service: 3⁄5 Cheerfully decorated, wifi with decent speed and delicious snacks(especially the Churros that my girlfriend loves much) are the few reasons Whimsical in Publika has become a frequent hang out place for my girlfriend and I. Easily accessible but away from the hustle bustle of the shoppers in the mall, Whimsical is strategically located behind the Publika main building. Cielo Dolci, well known for their large selection of gelato flavours, serves really unique gelatos such as sambal gelato, nasi lemak gelato etc, which unfortunately we have not tried any of them. What we did try was their brunch and tea time snacks. I had You Goat Me which is basically baked eggs with goat cheese and lamb sausages. It was delicious and I was stuffing it down. My girlfriend however, did not find the brunch menu impressive. I tried one of their coolers. If I remembered correctly, it was Whimsical Lemonade. I did not like it as it was way too sour and I couldn’t bring myself to finish the drink. This is a nice café to chill and do some work as there are several plug points available near the walls. However, given the vast options in Publika, I might try out something else next time.

I was strolling outside Publika when Whimsical’s open window display invited me to sample some of their artisanal gelato which was perfect for a hot day. I like how you don’t have to go in the café and sit down to get a cone of gelato as their open window concept is a great way to lure people to try out some of their unique flavours. With flavours ranging from lavender, Guinness to even their famous nasi lemak, the options are endless. I usually go for their lavender as its not too sweet with a hint of fragrance. I am eyeing the sangria flavour next. The place looks like its run by family as service is usually courteous and friendly. I also tried their waffles which were decent but wasn’t impressive. Wifi is provided and this is a spot where you can sit quietly to work but it may get a little noisier during the night when the place is filled up.

Gelato + Coffee Whimsical is an all rounder. They serve gelato, coffee and desserts. You can’t go wrong visiting this place. Cielo Dolci artisanal gelato is served at this establishment. They’ve got all your classic flavours and even some with a local twist. They’re well known for their seasonal«Nasi Lemak» flavour. I had their«tau foo fa» flavour, it was something different. Whimsical is known for their«cotton candy coffee», my sister had that. The cotton candy came in a cup and was served with a shot of espresso.

Food: 3⁄5 Décor: 2⁄5 Service: 3⁄5 Churros!!! I want Churros! That’s what I’ve always been telling my boyfriend and one day, he told me about Whimsical and how their Churros are likely to be up to the standard I am expecting. And yes!!! The sticks were crispy on the outside and warm on the inside with very interesting, I am guessing, gula melaka dip. Something to comment on might be that I find the dip a little bit too watery. I also tried their cotton candy affogato. Fluffed with a lot of cotton candy on top of the cup, pouring hot expresso melts the cotton candy and exposing the ice cream and gula melaka inside the cup. It is a really fun and interesting experience, though I will only order it once because it gets a little bit messy and it is way to sweet. My boyfriend and I had a chill afternoon there with nice snacks(by snacks I mean Churros). I find the chairs a little bit uncomfortable though, that was why we didn’t stay for too long and left after around an hour or so.
