The first restaurant in Amsterdam that we tried was Café Zouk. They had a variety of Dutch items for us to try. We opted for the cheese souffles and bitterballen. We also shared a Classic burger… GOODCHOICES all around! I ordered a mint tea. It was nice and hot. It comes with a small stroopel. Yummy!

Looking for a restaurant in Amsterdam is difficult(so many to pick from). We were looking for something close to the hotel and something with Amsterdam flair. We came across Zouk. Big Amstel sign and good Unilocal reviews! Why not. The place was cozy and comfortable. Service was good and food was above average. The pizza hit the spot and the classic burger was tasty! You can’t go wrong with this place. Sandwich was mediocre. Stick with pizza or burger.

This was quite near my hotel, and exhausted from two days wandering in the hot sun, close was just about the only criteria. Upon arrival, a rather cold breeze picked up so I opted to sit inside, near the open door. My drink order was taken pretty quickly, but then getting my food order in took a while. I let them know I was gluten free and offered my paper explaining this in Dutch; at first the server didn’t take it but said the kitchen could do it. He came back and said they’d make it without potatoes; I asked if the potatoes could be made plain, and he looked confused. He ended up asking for the paper after all and took it back to the kitchen. A good 30 minutes later, I got my dish — sea bream with some kind of sauce, mangetout, rocket and a side of roasted potatoes. It was alright; nothing amazing but I appreciate the care they our into assuring it was safe for me to eat. I had to ask to get the paper back; it has a greasy handprint now but at least I can continue safely eating for the rest of my trip. Three stars for so-so and slow service and food that wasn’t worth the high-ish price.

My husband and I came here July 4, 2015. I gave this place 5 stars because the staff and food was great. The kitchen was only open for 5 more minutes and the staff was completely fine with servicing us food. So we sat outside with the nice flow of their signs and people watched. It was great. I never thought I’d like fries and mayonnaise but it’s pretty amazing! PROS: — quick service — great staff — good food — good beers — drinks open till 3am — easy bike parking nearby CONS: — only serving food till 10pm

This is a great local bar to hang out at. The drinks are good as is the service. It’s a great atmosphere, fun and friendly. It’s a very popular place so be ready to hunt for space most times of the day.

These four stars are for: location, size of establishment, and service. It’s a convenient spot when I needed it, but since we arrive around 11pm, the kitchen was basically closed. But the server did offer chips and salsa, and we were hungry so that’s what we ate. I would not recommend the salsa though. I realize it was probably right from the jar since the kitchen was closed, but if it’s the salsa they use(which I assume since they had it), it’s not so great. But I do look forward to trying some food next time when we are in the area, and I will update the review at that time. It’s a nice spot easily accessible by tram or bike and the restaurant is a good size. Our server was very happy to accommodate us and seemed to want to help. That’s always a happy thing in Amsterdam. There’s also a decent sized terrace on the main street as well.

It was close to our hotel and opened, so seemed like a great spot. Beer was delicious and well priced. Food was decent, but a touch spendy. We had the Mediterranean plate and a pizza. The pesto on the plate was the best ever, I would have eaten an entire bowl of it. The staff was great, and super accommodating of our jet lagged 9-year-old.

Great local place. We had the ravioli saltimboca and the carpaccio pizza. Both did not disappoint! The pizza crust was the thinnest one ever– but was not burned and cooked to perfection. The ravioli was outstanding. The meat was a mix of Parma ham and veal. It came out in a broiling plate with bernaise type sauce laid on a bed of steamed spinach, roasted carrots in the sauce. On top there was arugula with crumbled pancetta. Came with two pieces of bread to pick up the left over sauce. OUTSTANDING. Oh, the beer was excellent as well. I like the Brouweri’t ij, triple(tap) and their IPA(Fres/bottle) was good as well, good strong hoppy flavor. For desert we had the Chocolate lasagna. It was okay. Threw us a curve with a heavy orange flavor and crust was harder like a strudel crust. Layered like lasagna. Overall great meal, definitely would come back again!!!

The food here is delicious! The homemade fries were better than several previous samples of the famous Belgian frites :) Pizzas are great, goat cheese salad was fresh and flavorful, soup and homemade bread very good as well.

Good spot in the neighborhood to grab a drink or two. Would probably not eat here again. Quality not up to the standards of the price.

Went to Zouk with some friends to have dinner and watch the World Cup final. Had a really Cosy outside area. The atmosphere in the evening is really good. The food was good although while it seemed quite inexpensive, because the dishes are small you need to order at least two each so it ended up being more expensive than anticipated. Nevertheless the food was decent. Goats cheese salad and the fish were both delicious. Good selection of beers too. The wines were okay — save blanc being the best. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the merlot though. Overall a good little bar!

Went to Zouk twice during my very short stay in Amsterdam recently. That should tell you something. The room is nicely lit, dim and adding to the overall chill atmosphere. Excellent music, great vibe, cool clientele without pretension. My husband and I went there our first night in town after a long day of train travel to enjoy some restorative food(carrot soup, sausage, sole, eggplant) and beers. We decided we had to stop by on our last night to drink some Chouffe and nibble some bitterballen. Staff was very friendly. I’d be a regular if I lived there permanently.
