Eetcafé Compaenen

I arrived starving, haven’t not eaten since before boarding my flight from Scotland that morning. The menu was in English and Dutch, and I was able to work with my server to ask the kitchen to make me a club sandwich as a salad. I did have a document that explains I am gluten free and what foods I can and cannot eat, in Dutch, so that helped.
My sandwich-​salad was glorious! So good. The chips I ordered on the side were also really nice, crispy fried and served with mayo and ketchup. The service was good, and the food was delicious. I didn’t try the coffee but a sign indicates it’s effing strong.

We came Sunday July 5, 2015 in the evening.
We came here for a drink and some fries as a little treat on our last night in Amsterdam. We sat down and waited for someone to come around. Then all of a sudden the person sitting two seats down from us gets up to come take our order. Basically the worker there was socializing instead of working and had no problem making us wait.
We both got beers. We finished them. Sat and waited for him to finish socializing with now two more friends in the group to come over and give us another round. We finally ordered again and added fries.
At the end he was now sitting with 5 of his friends and I had to get out of my seat to ask him for the bill. I went inside and gave him my AMEX card and he said the card machine is broken. I told him that we dont have cash and that he should’ve told us his card reader was broken before serving us. WE HAD NO CASH except for just enough to get a cab to the airport the next day. His reply was to go to a local cash machine which was over two blocks and down the street.
Told my husband that his machine was broken. When the guy came outside he asked if his reader is broken and he replied «no, we just don’t except that card.» WTF! Liar! He was a jerk and just didn’t want to run the AMEX or any other card we had to not pay the percentage. But our bill wasn’t € 10, it was enough. Then he went back to sit with his friends!!! My husband had to run to get more money

CONS:
— unprofessional service
— menu not that great that’s why we only got drinks and fries
— bathroom was gross
— Server lied to me about reader being broke
— server was more concerned about hanging with his friends that were there then working.
— worker seemed scandalous

War nur kurz da auf nen Espresso, maße mir also kein abschließendes Urteil an Der Typ war nett, der Espresso so lala und die Einrichtung des Lokals entspannt-​gemütlich.
