Great place with kind bartenders and a LOT of nice beers!

After an amazing meal at Café de Klos, the fellas and I wanted to have a few beers to cap our vacation. I visited Café Gollem on a previous visit to Amsterdam and they informed me that they had three additional locations around Amsterdam, but that Gollem’s Proeflokaal was their suggestion for me. The bar was much larger than Café Gollem, but it still retained a welcoming feel. The staff all spoke good English, so that made navigating the extensive beer list much easier. After drinking watered down beer in Africa, I had a strong urge for some locally brewed IPAs. The beers definitely didn’t disappoint and nor did the service. The music selection was great and there was even a nice lazy cat wandering around to keep the patrons company. Since this bar was in a working class neighborhood, 90% of the clientele was locals. If I had a place like this back home, I’d definitely be a regular. You’ll be missed Gollem’s Proeflokaal, but I shall see you again.

Excellent selection of beers on tap and on bottle. Bartender knows what he’s talking about, beer styles, what each one tastes like and which beers are«easier to like»

At first, I was going to give this place four stars as there are likely better places in Amsterdam. However, I then considered this place relative to places we have in the States: wayyy better. Star upgrade it is! The beer selection here is pretty expansive(both tap and bottles) and features a wide offering of Dutch(and Belgian) beers. While the food was delicious too, what really set this place apart was the service: our waiter was extremely friendly and looked to offer suggestions wherever he could. As others have noted, this is not in the touristy area, so it’s a great little escape to get a better taste of the true«local» flare. I can’t wait to come back here the next time I’m in Amsterdam. Note: Even though it was a Dutch place, we had no problem ordering in English. Another Note: Some of the cleanest bathrooms I’ve ever seen in public establishment, let alone a bar. America, take some notes.

Great beer selection, relaxed atmosphere(early in the afternoon when it’s not crowded), and fantastic food. I highly recommend the meat and cheese plate. I enjoyed chillin with my beer, nibbling on meat and cheese and people-watching by the window.

They have a HUGE selection of beers on tap as well as bottles. While not in the heart of amsterdam, this bar was close to the hotel we stayed(Grand Hotel Downtown Amsterdam). We didn’t expect this quiet neighborhood bar to have so many patrons… people were literally packed in here like sardines. If you want a quiet bar or even a normal noise-level bar, this place isn’t it. The bar smelled of smoke, old-beer, and was dank… however, it had a certain European charm to it that I can’t quite describe. Just come here and drink their huge selection of craft beer. I wouldn’t necessarily travel off the beaten path to come here, but if you’re in the area or living nearby, then definitely make a stop here. 4 stars.

I am not a big Unilocaler, just read reviews. This place is excellent, if you want some mussels and frites and you want to wash them down with great beers, this is the place. We sampled a couple of items before the mussels and they were great also. Local crowd, helpful staff. You can’t go wrong.

Excellent service and friendly staff! If you’re unfamiliar with local beer, take the bartenders recommendations with confidence; he will not let you down. Great, lively atmosphere and cool vibes! A must if you’re in the area.

A highlight of my trip to Amsterdam. Incredible selection of Belgian ales on tap and in bottle. With a knowledgeable staff willing to talk beer with us moderately informed partakers. Feels like a total local spot. Very few tourists. I felt like the only one. Nice food options as well. There are a few of these around town. Definitely worth seeking this out and making an evening of it.

We stopped in here for an afternoon drink with a few nibbles. Service was prompt and very informative. A companion of mine asked for a Japanese style dutch beer a tricky question for any waitress yet she wasn’t phased and responded with a beer perfect to my friends taste ‘Witkap-Pater — Stimulo’ We had some really nice bitterballen — some of the best I’ve had here so far. We only had nibbles and I didn’t look at the main menu. The cheese platter had generous serves of cheese. Perhaps more cheese than bread.

Take the tram to Overtoom and do a mini crawl at Gollem and Craft & Draft some blocks away on the same street. I can’t decide wether I like this Gollem or the teeny weeny Gollem on Ramsteeg better. They are great in different ways. They both offer a great variety of craft beer — this one have a few more though and the venue is bigger. Here we met the most helpful bartender ever!

This spot is way far from the touristy areas… but close to the high-end shops, like Longchamp, LV, and all that nonsense. The outside eating/drinking area is chill(communal tables and barrels) and the interior is pretty huge and dark. Order the meat and cheese… and lots of beer. LOTSOFBELGIANBEER. Wander out of the Red Light District to this bar and try something different.
