Went last night to have dinner with my husband. The two of us were seated almost immediately. The establishment was nicely decorated and clean. It was not busy and the restaurant was not crowded. The waitstaff were friendly. However, once seated it took about 15 minutes before our server greeted us and took our drink order. Since it had taken so long for our server to come over we already had our meal order also. Somehow the napkin that is used to place drinks on dropped to the floor, I picked it up and placed it upside down on the table. Our server thanked me for picking it up but did not replace it and even placed my drink on it when my drink finally came out. This is nasty and I promptly moved my drink. My husband had the 16 Oz Prime Rib medium rare with Oscar added and I had the Oscar Filet medium well. Our drinks took awhile to come out also, for which our server apologized. My husband order a Shiner Bock draft which he said was excellent I had the Tropical Sangria which lacked flavor except for pineapple, furthermore I could not taste or feel that I was even drinking a drink that contained alcohol. I had my husband taste it and he agreed it did seem as though it lacked alcohol. Our salads came and even though I requested that my dressing be put on the side it was already on my salad. I was beyond hungry by now and figured it would take another 30 minutes to get my salad if I sent it back. Our main course finally arrived after being in Saltgrass for over an hour. My husband loved his Prime rib, the Oscar is a must for him now(his words). My steak was overcooked but still good. I also loved the Oscar topping. My baked potato was good but on the small size. As we were finishing I realized that the staff seemed to be more interested in doing their closing chores than taking care of the customers, as they were sweeping and wiping down the banister outside etc. Our sever did not offer to refill our water or offer more bread when our meal finally came. She was however prompt with bringing our check. If they could have gotten our food out as fast things would have been better. She was not rude, just not very attentive. She was polite and even offered to box our leftovers up for me. I enjoy Saltgrass but this one needs to work on customer service and bar. Their food is some of the best I have had at a Saltgrass. If you want to take a chance on service and have 2 hours to spare then this is a good spot to eat.

I found a hair in steak. And my friends chicken fried steak was so cold that you could poke the gravy and your finger would bounce off it CLEAN. First time here and I’m disappointed I don’t feel like we will be coming back.

This place a great addition to the Waco area, the food is very delicious, the veggies are very fresh, they must have an amazing filtration system for their water. Because there was after taste at all. The meat was full of flavor and no need for steak sauce, the wait time is on average, 20 – 50 mins depending on the day you go, be sure to call at least the day before because they don’t do same day reservations. The was stuff is courteous, the atmosphere is casual and the noise level is good, so you don’t have to yell.

Went here at friend’s request. Restaurant feels outdated and tacky, but not really that different from any other steak house. Clientele definitely was an older group(a lot of tables with people in their 60s+…we felt a little out of place. Ordered a handful of items off the recommendation of the waitress: Blue cheese bacon filet was really good(though small), but I definitely recommend it. Mac n Cheese was not great. I would say don’t order it. Steak soup was fine, but reminded me of Campbell’s vegetable soup or something. The bread that comes with the meal was so-so… You have to cut it yourself and it would have been better if it was something to go with the cinnamon butter.

I have mixed feelings about my visit to Saltgrass in Waco today. The good: we were seated quickly, the atmosphere is great, my drink(Texas tea) was strong and yummy, and my steak was delicious and perfectly cooked. Our server was a sweet kid named Tyler, and he was friendly and engaging. The bad: Tyler spilled a tray, which was holding two glasses and a carafe of ice water, behind me and I got pretty soaked. Like, ice down my sweater and pants soaked. I’m not«one of those customers» and I know things happen. He was apologetic and mortified. I feel as though in that situation, a visit from the manager and maybe at least a comped drink would have been appropriate, but that didn’t happen. It was 11:00 am when we arrived and the place was empty, so there’s no reason he would have been too busy.

Took my two daughters here for a Christmas Eve dinner and was very pleased with the entire experience. The service was surprisingly good for a newer establishment with multiple servers taking care of our table. I had the NY strip and it was cooked perfectly(med rare) and I found it tender and flavorful. The daughters had a salad and the chicken fried steak and both seemed pleased with their dinner. Only knock was that our young server knew zero about the wine offering. If they can maintain the good service, this place will do well in Waco.

When they bring you a T-bone & baked potato and then try to convince you that it’s the 22oz porterhouse & garlic mash that you ordered(because baked potatoes are rarely hot) they’ve lost the plot. Decent I suppose, but CLEARLYNOT what I ordered! Didn’t matter, they were adamant that they served me a 22oz porterhouse & garlic mashed potatoes. O_o I’ll allow the potato error… but if you can’t tell the difference between a 22oz porterhouse & a T-bone…you’re clueless. Ok, they’re cut from the same part of beef… but there should be NOWAY that a restaurant, especially a STEAKHOUSE, could consider a ½″ steak a porterhouse. I’ll find a reputable steakhouse next time I’m in town. Once a month or so…

Ordered med well for my steak, think I got med rare. It did a little mooing. The shrimp was good. Hubby order chicken fried steak. Didn’t like. No flavor in batter. Our waitress was very nice. But will not be going back. The price was not worth the meal.

Our waitress Christi was SUPERNICE and on point. Since it was a Friday night we had to wait about 30 minutes but that wasn’t too bad. The food was pretty good the only problem was my food was a bit cold. I had 2 margaritas and they were delicious! My husband enjoyed his steak it was cooked to perfection! Thank you Christi for being so wonderful!

I have long been a fan of Saltgrass. It seems to be one of the better chain restaurants. That shows in the training of the staff and the hospitality. Their arrival in Waco is most welcome. This is not an inexpensive place to dine but the quality of the food, service and ambiance made it feel like a good value. If you are on a bit of a budget, don’t hesitate to split an entrée. There is ample food for two people to share with the addition of another side or a signature salad. The wedge and the spinach are both very well prepared. The Artichoke dip comes in two sizes(each large enough to split) with an accompaniment of thin tortilla chips. Somebody doesn’t like artichokes? There is a thimble of salsa on board as an alternate dipper. My steak came out medium rare as ordered. This can be a real challenge at some restaurants but Saltgrass handled it perfectly. Decent crust outside and a warn red center. My sweet potato side was large, hot and delicious. As usual, the Waco first-month crush can cause some service problems but Saltgrass seems to be handling it without a stumble.

I’ve been here now, three times and each visit was extremely pleasant. Service and food is very good. There aren’t many places you go to, that any server walking by will take the initiative of grabbing your empty plates from your table or help out in some way. It’s awesome they have the jars/jugs of refreshments at your table. You don’t have to flag down a server when you get low on drinks. One of the best places in Waco and their opening has gone down VERY well, compared to many other places.

Went 10÷16÷15 and had great experience. Brisket queso is really really good(mix it up and enjoy). Shiner bread is also great. Ordered surf and turf(ribeye and grilled shrimp) with mashed potato and wedge salad and it was all excellent. Wife got filet and sweet potato and really enjoyed hers as well. Great service, well taken care of. Played pop country rock the whole time which isn’t my favorite but most of their customers probably like it.

We had a wonderful time. Service was EXCELLENT! The spinach salad was fantastic and definitly something I would order again. We had the house special which came with an 8oz sirloin, 2 fried shrimp, some type of sauce, a house salad(which my husband ate), and a side. We split the meal and they were kind enough to cute the steak in half and already had it split on two different plates when they brought it out. Food was hot and tasted great. My only complaint is that they brought the food out shortly after we received our salads, which we were still in the process of eating. We also asked for the loaded items for the baked potato on the side which came out on top, but they made it right and brought the loaded portions on the side(my husband and I do not like the same toppings on our baked potato). Again, I can’t say enough about the fantastic service! Customer service is a dying breed but they definitely have it right! Lastly, the wait was supposed to be 50 min but we received a table in less than 20min. Worth the wait!

It’s their first week and it was pretty impressive. Our server was excellent! Very attentive and knowledgable. The teamwork was great between all of the staff. The wait was a little long for the food, but that was to be expected, we had a party of 16. Great experience! Now just keep it up after the honeymoon period!
