Walking and shopping on Greensboro Ave in downtown Tuscaloosa I saw a flashing sign for Big Daddy’s Mediterranean Restaurant. Entering the restaurant took me back in time to a restaurant I would frequent in Fahaheel, Kuwait. They restaurant owner is friendly and accommodating and the staff is first rate. Looking at the menu there is a great selection of middle eastern dishes. There is also a selection of American stuff for the timid. I have been looking for an authentic schwarma since returning from Kuwait in 1999. I found it here. The flavor and the presentation took me back and in closing my eyes I could see the little stand off the Seven Rings Highway we would stop at on the way into Kuwait City. The gyros are also tasty and next time I will be trying the kafta and kabobs. This all be one of my frequent visits whenever I am in T-Town.

As a real middle eastern, I can confirm this food is authentic as it gets. Ordering a burger is a complete waste, go for the falafel or shawarma for sure. They always hook it up for me too when I ask for my meal made skinny aka veggies instead of bread. This place is my go to drunk food since they’re open really late

Best gyro in town. Also the only place in Tusc you can get Laziza malt beverage. Try the peach flavor. The other gyro places are all super-Americanized. If that’s your thing then by all means just go across the street. Their chicken shawarma is good. I think I like it even better than their gyros. It’s peppery hot and saucy but could use more of other savory spices. Make sure you get a slice of the harissa cake.

I’ve eaten at every Mediterranean restaurant in Tuscaloosa and this has always been my favorite. It has the worst atmosphere but I enjoy going there. The gyros are packed as full and they can be and are served like a taco rather than a roll up. The kitchen is right behind the counter so you can see everything being cooked which is cool. Big Daddys also doubles as a hooka bar which is located in the back which shouldnt bother non smokers, there isnt any smoke in the restaurant portion of the building. The food is great, and the hooka bar is quite relaxing. Overall a great place to eat and hang out with friends.

Best Mediterranean around. The food is always good and the service is exceptional. Big Daddy works to much though, he is always there when we go to eat and is always doing something. I have tried most everything on the menu and love it all but oddly enough the Italian beef and sausage is so so good.

I can’t actually tell you how the food was, because we left before even ordering. I am gluten-free, and asked if the pita could be substituted for veggies if I ordered hummus. I was told«we don’t have any vegetables.» Seriously.(???) I then asked if I could get falafel in lieu of pita or veggies, and he said«how much falafel do you expect me to give you?» So we left.

Best Mediterranean in town. The shawarma plate is phenomenal. They are always friendly and fast. I have not smoked the hookah but they seem to pack it out the door every weekend. Big Daddy’s is open late, they DELIVER!!, and the food is spot on every time. They have a small location in downtown and the interior is dated, but if you’re looking for some frou frou, there’s plenty of other places for that. We love to eat in, and when the weather’s right, sitting on the tables out front is perfect.

You know those hole in the wall places that serve good food at the right price? This is exactly that, a hole in the wall. The gyro meat is no better than the rest but what is great is that it comes with plenty of it. I hate stingy places that skimp on the meat… here you will be full at the end of the sandwich. Also… Every time I have been here I had service with a smile which also goes a very long way for me!

Unfortunately, I did not have a good experience here and probably will not go back. The food was very salty– falafel plate with all the sides. All of it was too salty to finish. I have definitely had a better falafel, but they might have other great menu items… Place seemed a little dirty and was small.

Quite slow on service with NO one to serve. Literally, we were a party of three and there were only 2 others that arrived in the 20 plus minutes that we waited for our meal. Not the cleanest place I’ve ever eaten in the patio out back. The food was okay but we’re not likely to visit again. The hummus was okay but I have had better from a container. The pita bread was delicious and so fresh. It alone saves this establishment from a 2 star rating. Next time I want Mediterranean flair, I’ll get it in Birmingham.

Good Mediterranean food, especially late night. It’s not the best I’ve ever had(places in Greece & Turkey are the tops; DC, NY&LA have some incredible places too) but it’s better than some of the new ‘trendy’ places around t-town. A bit of a hole-in-the-wall place but I’ve always been greeted with a warm & friendly smile and prompt service. The ‘décor’ could use some updating/improving but I come here to eat, not to look at the walls. Whenever I’m in t-town and get a craving for mediterranean food, this is the spot I go.

One of my favorite paces to eat in T-town. Chicken shwarma wrap with 3 pieces of falafel on the side do me just right.

I totally enjoyed the Italian Sausage sub for lunch today. Served with grilled onions & peppers on a crispy hoagie bun. It really was good I’m looking forward to trying more yummy things here.

Why does the best chicken wrap I’ve eaten have to be in Tuscaloosa instead of Birmingham? The pita bread was delicious and thick and gave my tummy a smile. It seems that the only pita you will find in Birmingham is the really thin pita that JouJous makes and is distributed to all the restaurants and stores. So sad. The chicken wrap was awesome. Full of nice garlicky flavor and not skimpy with the meat. Sometimes you get wraps that are mostly lettuce and tomatoes and hardly any meat. Not the case here. The fries were the soft mushy kind but still had good flavor. The hummus was fresh and extremely tasty. Definitely worth a try. And you can never go wrong with mint tea. The menu was quite extensive, so you are bound to find something you like. I will definitely return.

This is a nice little«local» spot in the old part of Tuscaloosa. The food is good, and the folks that work here are very friendly. The Kofta or Gyro wraps are what I usually get.
