Sonka Irish Pub

Excellent bar and awesome menu! If you are looking for a place to go hang out of an evening Sonka is one of the best spots in town. If you are looking for a great meal, Sonka has a wide selection of amazing food — not your average pub food here. Excellent owner who knows what the hell is going on!
The only thing it is lacking is a few nice TV’s. Just not that kind of place, they don’t want it to be a sports bar. So I get it — just wish Sandy would invest in a couple nice TV’s.
My personal favorite is the huge Spicy Leprechaun Chicken Salad and the Full Cheese Plate ($$). All of this with a few Franziskaner with an orange slice or a Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and you are all set! Enjoy

Glad we decide to stop on our way home, called the bar to see if they’d be playing the MSU basketball game and they happily accommodated our request. Great beer selection, the chips and dips are to for and we were rather impressed with our food for the price not to mention everyone was very friendly! Perfect place to take a small detour off the highway and break up the day.

Good food, great beer and a fantastic atmosphere. As far as a casual bar to meet up with friends for a few beers, there is no place better in Terre Haute.

Every time we pass through terre haute this is a must-​stop! Fantastic food — everything we’ve had has been great, fish/​shrimp are incredible and the pub chips best ever!!! Great beer selection and nice people in a great atmosphere.

They have an amazing beer selection, and everything we ate was delicious. The waitresses were also very friendly, helpful and patient.

AMAZING ALL-​AROUND! The TRUE spirit of an Irish pub– great eats & brews, fantastic waitstaff, sweet specials and reasonably priced! I’m most definitely coming back for more, and soon!

This place is pretty cool. Definitely a neighborhood joint. Lots of beers on tap and some surprising variations on the typical pub fare, which is much appreciated. The meat and cheese platters are awesome!

My wife and I stopped here for a quick burger on a Thursday evening. Servers were friendly, prices were fair (most dinners were around $ 8.00), burgers and sides were good, beer selection was large: what more can you ask? Traditional Irish pub atmosphere is nice, too. They also have outdoor seating, if you’re into that. (I might take points off for their Cole slaw being weird, but I’m pretty picky about my slaw: I like large chunks of veggies in slaw and theirs is almost puréed. Fair warning.)

Ate here for the first time today. Great atmosphere, great service, great food! We had appetizers, salads, and a burger, and a pesto chicken sandwich. All very freshly prepared and very good! We’ll definitely be back! Great selection of beer on tap and our server was very helpful in picking out ones we liked.

The absolute best pub in Terre Haute. Great food, great beer and the best deep fried Oreos I have ever had.

I don’t usually frequent here because I’m not a huge beer drinker, and they mostly serve beer. But I have some friends who love this place, and I’ve started meeting them there for dinner: you cannot go wrong! I LOVE their Leprechaun wings. The sauce has a lot of kick but is so good! The price for their wings is excellent, too. The service is good, but be prepared to show two IDs (a gov. ID and a credit card with your name will work). It’s also one of the few places with outdoor seating in town!

Best place in TH to drink and talk with good friends. Great times are had and great memories always made at Sonkas

So many beers on tap! Meat and cheese boards, potatoes, sandwiches, outdoor seating, pleasant staff. Great pub!

One of the best burgers that I have had in a while. This the second time that I have eaten at Sonka’s. Prices are good too. Will be back!

Food was cold. Corned beef was good though. The waiter got our orders wrong and did not want to admit it. Ordered beer but he never brought it. Very unpleasant experience. Never coming back again.

I’ve been here a couple of times. First time I ordered a Cod Rueben and a Founders Cream Stout. Both were fabulous!
Today I had a few Black and Tan paired with a cheese board: salami, turkey, Stilton Blue and Irish Cheddar with porter brew. They added crackers, pickles and olives! What a beautiful pub meal.
Everyone I’ve seen serving is smiling. It’s busy tonight so service is a little slow, but everyone is having a good time. I see lot’s of students eating wings… Next time.

What a great bar! Food and drink lists are extensive and amazing! Service was excellent but I was a little taken aback to have to show 2 pieces of ID (I actually thought it was a joke at first!).
My husband and I shared a cheese and meat platter and it was SO good! Next, I had the antipasto salad and a cup of the Irish stew and my husband had the cod sandwich, all wonderful! The servers were on the ball and so helpful! I can’t wait to go back!

This place is 21 and over only, despite the fact that the atmosphere is quiet and cozy and they serve no liquor. So, they will watch you help your handicapped grandmother up their step with some difficulty and then kick you out because you have your well-​behaved five-​year with you.

I love this place! Best pub and grub in Terre Haute! They have quality beer and use quality ingredients in their food. The ambiance is cozy and fun. A neighborhood favorite!

Ok, I’ll start with the ‘bad’ things, if you can even call them bad. Parking is street only but I’ve never really had to park far away. They do take credit cards but they have a $ 10 minimum… although I feel like they’ve been flexible with this, at I know there have been times that I didn’t spend that much and paid with my credit card. Finally, you have to be 21. I stopped at this place after I had my interview for my graduate program. I knew I’d be a ball of nerves and need a beer afterwards. The waiter asked for my ID before I even ordered a beer so that’s why I got the impression you have to be 21. Also, they serve beer/​wine only, no liquor. Which for me isn’t a ‘bad’ thing but for some it may be.
The good stuff. Beer. This is one of the best selections of local and craft beer in Terre Haute and it’s constantly changing with seasonal stuff. The building itself is pretty cool, chill, casual, and it’s got character.
The best night to go is Thursday because they have Trivia. It’s pretty hard but it’s really fun to get a group together to play and have some beers to start off the weekend.
The staff is great. They are usually really busy (at least on the trivia side on Thursdays) and they have never messed up an order, they are great about asking if you need anything else when your glass is getting empty, and they’re friendly.
My program only requires me to be in Terre Haute for 2 years… and there’s honestly not that much I’ll miss about the Haute (except my friends) but this is one place I will miss.
