Picked up an order today. Sashimi was thin as a hair seriously and was 3 $ a piece I kind of felt ripped off.

We get sushi from Cactus about once a week. It’s always fresh and delicious. The lovely couple who run it are so friendly and accommodating. A great neighborhood place.

Sam is the man! BEST sushi in Tenafly by far. Sam only rolls the FRESHEST fish and is always so welcoming. My favorite spicy tuna roll in town, very convenient for pick-​up. Much better than Foova (another sushi place in Tenafly), because the fish is SO MUCH fresher here at Cactus. Come here for the most authentic sushi experience in Tenafly.

Sam and his bride are so sweet. Everything was so yummy I ate lunch and dinner there to cover the array of options. So good! I’ll be back next time I’m in town. Not to far from Teterboro airport…

My favorite sushi place. One of his first customers over 10 years ago when I was in HS. Still some of the best sushi I have ever had. It’s not just that his sushi is super fresh and great prices for the quality, but he is super nice and gives great customer service!
Make sure you bring cash as it’s cash only here (well worth it though!).
The only con is that i no longer live in my home town of Tenafly, NJ or on the east coast (i moved to LA in 2012) so I can’t enjoy this experience anymore. I still haven’t found a place quite like Cactus: The quiet atmosphere, friendly service, and the conversations I would have with Sam. there are some great places out in LA, but it isn’t the same. Cactus feels personal and I always felt taken care of. When i come back to NJ I will make sure to stop by his place. If he was able to duplicate his philosophy and attention to quality that he gives to sushi, he would make a lot of money with a franchise/​chain. Sadly the kind of talent he has for sushi is very unique.

Pretty good, nice owner/​chef, not bad pricing, Four stars instead of five for the following reasons:
Interior needs to look less dumpy, it looks like a warehouse.
Smoothies/​juices should use organic ingredients without added sugars.
Need more Salmon options on the menu.
Cash only!!! come on, it’s 2015, who carries cash?

It’s tiny and tucked away next to the movie theater, but Cactus is one of the best sushi places I’ve ever been to. Sam (the owner) and his wife are the only employees. He makes the sushi and he’s always very friendly. Even though he does everything himself, he still manages to make sushi much faster than the other local sushi joint (Foova) and he always uses very fresh fish. Definitely try his smoothies too! They’re great in the summer heat.

How strange that the best sushi around is in a little shop across from the railroad station in Tenafly, NJ. Excellent maki rolls — better than anything I’ve had recently in NY, NJ or CT. Sammy makes everything with love and attention to detail that is fabulous to see. And so very tasty! Enjoy a great fruit or veggie smoothy with your sushi for a healthy, wonderful meal.

Stop what you’re doing immediately and go to Cactus Sushi. Just go. Cactus Sushi, or Sam’s, as it’s so referred to by me and my friends, is an unexpected gem in Tenafly. Sam, the owner and chef, is nothing short of a sushi wizard. Try the Boston roll. Try the spicy tuna or the eel teriyaki. Or better yet, tell Sam what you’re in the mood for and he’ll create your own custom roll. The entire restaurant seats only 4 people — it’s primarily for takeout, but I prefer to sit and chat with Sam as he crafts each masterpiece and serves it up fresh. This is a true «mom and pop» operation. Cash only — bring a lot, because when you’re done eating, you’ll want to order more. One last thing — he makes good smoothies, too — I recommend the strawberry banana pineapple on a hot summer day.

But this place. Wow… is the greatest to-​go sushi place I’ve ever been!
All foods are just fresh and delicious!!!
If you are a person who’d like to have dinner in a fancy restaurant and to be served by a smiling waitress, this is not a place to go,
Remeber!!! this is to-​go specialized sushi place, there are only a few tiny chairs, but despite all, they provide their food with affordable price, in fresh just like home made!

I’ve been coming here since the place opened, Sam makes hands down the best sushi you’ll ever eat. Not only does he offer the freshest fish and most delicious rolls you’ll ever have, he also will make any alterations you want to create your own roll (try the Nick Roll, it’s fantastic.) Sam is also super friendly and is as loyal to his customers as they are (or will be) to him. From homemade sauces to delicious smoothies to the best damn sushi ever, Cactus sushi is a must-​try restaurant for any sushi lover.

Ok this is a sushi joint, no mexicana here. Sammy is great, prices are reasonable and he sushi is always fresh

friendly owner who’s been there for 11 years. crazy. went for fruit juice because hongbosuk didn’t have ice cream. you can have sushi that is supposed to be rather good and cheap, although that you have to sit in a closet.
