Updated review: ordered delivery and I’m very disappointed. The sashimi was not fresh. The sushi roll had barely any fish in it. I doubt I’m ordering again Sashimi is nice and thick and very fresh and tasty. The rolls could use some work. They are not tight enough and they fall apart.

I have ordered from this place a few times. Each time the sushi is beyond fresh & delivered on time. I have also picked up food and the location is clean & the staff is friendly. My favorite rolls are Ultimate Lobster, Angry Dragon and Blue Avo. The seaweed salad & miso are tasty as well. You won’t be disappointed.

This place used to be much better. My wife likes to order the Danny’s Roll. It was always firm and generously portioned. The last time though, they gave us half the amount and it was loose and falling apart! When we complained and the waitress told the sushi chef, he proceeded to throw a fit. He did prepare it again, but it wasn’t nearly as good as it used to be. Also, they used to pipe in Japanese music, giving the space a nice Zen-like quality. However, they no longer do this so the place is painfully quiet! Why not have some low background music?

Frequently order for delivery. Sometimes they’re super quick, like 20 minutes, then sometimes it takes an hour so it varies I think based on how busy they are. Really good udon soups, big portion of soup, not too salty and always tastes fresh. Have only ordered a limited amount of actual sushi but what I’ve had has been good. Never had an actual bad meal.

Very disappointed. The cuts were awful and not fresh. So bad that I rather not finish my dish. We ordered caterpillar rolls and that tasted bland. Nvr coming back again.

I order online from here frequently and am a fan. The sushi is fresh and reasonably priced which is often hard to find. I like the way they cut the rolls into slightly larger pieces and have crunchy sesame seeds for texture. The lunch specials and bento boxes are a great deal which I love.(I actually prefer ordering for lunch) I have to deduct a star for the udon which was disappointing. There are barely any vegetables and the broth is not as flavorful as I would like.

Thanksgiving plans fell thru. Nihon Kai saves the day! The sushi and cooked meals are priced right too: 19 pcs and 2 bowls miso for $ 20.

Best chicken teriyaki hands down. The bento box comes with salad and mixed veggies. Food is always on point & they deliver !

This is one of my favorite sushi places. The sushi is always VERY fresh. I’ve eaten in the restaurant, had food delivered and have picked orders up. The service is always so friendly. I even ordered a platter once for work and it was outstanding.

Pleasantly surprised. Didn’t expect the quality and variety of the chirashi in Bergenfield. Will definitely be returning.

Can’t beat the lunch deal — $ 13 for nine big pieces of sashimi(tuna, salmon, and yellow tail) plus a soup and salad. The salad was just lettuce and ginger dressing(a little sad looking) but the portions and quality of fish hit the spot. We dined in and it was empty which is good because it’s pretty small. I will be ordering delivery from here next time I am on Main Street and craving sushi for lunch.

Quite good Japanese cuisine that actually has delivery! Online ordering! NJ restaurant moving into this century! The service is painfully slow though, and that extends to delivery. Sushi is solid(not the best, but above decent). The hibachi specials are great — they give you a ton of food including your entrée option, which is mixed with onions, zucchini and mushrooms, a side salad, and delicious hibachi rice, as well as a small miso soup on the side. I’ve never loved the steak or shrimp or scallops that come as the entrée(just okay), but the other parts are worth it. Udon noodles are also worth ordering — large portion with lots of noodles and veggies, and some of whatever you order. Steak is my favorite as it adds lots of flavor to the dish, but the fiancé prefers the shrimp. Absolutely worth checking out, particularly if you’re looking for delivery(such limited options in the area)… just prepare to be really patient!

Tried this spot during Memorial Day Weekend. We got there when they were closing but the owner was nice enough to let us order to go. We ordered just the special rolls. When we got home it took us a second to figure out which one was which. That turned out to be the best challenge we could have. We each tried new items. Even to go, the food was presented nicely & tasted even better. I would have preferred to eat there but they did gave us an unforgettable experience.

In my opinion, best, freshest sushi in Bergenfield. We eat here VERY often, both take out and dine in. You will not be disappointed.

Yum yum yum! I came in for lunch and ordered the bento box with chicken teriyaki, calamari and spicy tuna roll. I loved every bite of it. The chicken was on spot. The perfect balance of contrasting sauce, chicken and veggies. The calamari were great too. Fried to perfection and soo fresh. The savory chili sauce brought it all together. The spicy tuna roll was so tasty too! Great value for an upscale lunch at 12.95.(Came with miso soup also) The service was good, but then again I was the only patron there. The establishment is nice and tidy. Definitely would come back.

I ate here on a whim and it was decently good! I came not expecting anything but I would go back, mainly because I liked their rolls. My favorite was the Manhattan roll which had great flavors. The sushi was also fresh. My only disappointment, in terms of food, was the sushi rolls weren’t rolled tight enough so when I picked them up they fell apart. I basically had to eat my rolls like a chirashi. Otherwise, I really did love the freshness and the flavor a lot. I ordered another roll too that was also fresh but wasn’t as memorable in terms of flavor. Service wise, it was ok. I came at a slow period where no one was there. I opted to sit at the bar. The chef was good about getting my order and serving me quickly but getting my drinks from a wait staff member seemed to take longer. Also, everyone seemed to be watching videos on their phone or texting which didn’t make such a great impression. I’ll have to come again and sit at a table to see how the service differs. The ambiance is small and cramp. Nothing to write home about. The real reason to come here is to try their fresh sushi, which is hard to come by in the New Milford/Bergenfield area. I wouldn’t come very out of my way to come here though.

I was here on a Sunday night and it was empty, which is never a good sign. I was the only person sitting in there while waiting for my friend to arrive and felt SO awkward. I couldn’t figure out why but my friend walled in and immediately commented on the lack of any kind of music playing! It was really odd eating dinner by ourselves in a silent restaurant. The sushi was okay. Not terrible not the best. I had the sushi sashimi platter and it was minimally fishy. Thicker cuts of fish than you see at some places. My friend is a basic sushi bitch(still love you!) and enjoys spicy tuna/salmon rolls hahaha but they were still good. The spicy salmon were actually a piece of fish with spicy mayo which was surprising and nice. He also got a roll that had cooked and deep-fried salmon in it. do not get. We picked that one apart and just ate the insides. Service was also… really awkward. The girl serving us seemed like she never put a plate down on a table in her life. She couldn’t figure out where to put our plates down and we took them out of her hands and helped her. She also spoke in a whisper which was weird. I didn’t feel like running home and brushing the fishy taste out of my mouth immediately so they had that going for them. But I’m a sushi snob so I’m a tough grader. Probably won’t go back again bc its a bit out of the way for me but not bad if you’re in Bergenfield! For the price though it’s too expensive(80 $ roughly including tip) when it tastes about the same as sushi village… BYTHEWAY. I got a piece of uni to test out the quality of the place and while I got a big fat piece of uni, no bueno. Do not order the uni!

Nihon Kai is MYFAVORITE sushi place around. I order here very frequently and have never had a complaint. I get all of their rolls with brown rice and it’s always delicious. Also you have to ask for their spicy mayo, it’s the BEST. I highly recommend!

We were on our way to a Mexican place on S. Washington Ave when we realized the place was closed(or maybe out of business), so we decided to make a blind-choice; no reviews, no googling, just picked Nihon Kai and walked in. This was nearly 5 weeks ago. Since then, we’ve been back on a weekly basis. ROLLS: I forget the name of the specialty rolls, but the ones we’ve tried with salmon and tuna are delicious. I want to point out that while their specialty rolls are great, that’s not what keeps us coming back. Their cheap single-fish rolls that range between $ 2.50−5.00 are surprisingly amazing. I’m talking about the typical ones that every local-suburban-non-Japanese-owned sushi restaurant serves: tuna roll, spicy salmon roll, etc. They are very simple, tightly wrapped, with VERY little rice, very little spicy mayo(if the roll requires it), and just overall CLEAN. You can be a sushi snob all you want, but this was refreshing in the overly saturated market of mayo-tempura-crunch-5-fish-artisanal-rolls that you can’t fit into your mouth. My favorite is the spicy salmon roll(not the spicy tuna), tuna roll, and mackerel/ginger roll. APPETIZERS: Try their appetizers. I’ve had the tuna tataki and some kind of seaweed-encased flash-fried salmon roll topped with a medley of bonito flakes, shredded seaweed, imitation crab(small slivers), roe, and spicy mayo/hoisin sauce. Other places in the area: We’ve given East in Teaneck a few tries and have been disappointed each time. Sushi Village in Westwood is great if you feel like eating a buttload of sashimi without spending a fortune. Dairuma in Englewood is good for date night or when you’re in the mood for some funky asian-fusion rolls with fresh fish. Needless to say, this is our new cheap casual weeknight sushi spot in Bergen County. I think we even rang up a $ 100 bill one night(between the two of us). Considering the menu’s relatively low price point, take this as a sign that this place is delicious and that we have the appetites of a baby dinosaur.
