Really disappointing, overall really not very good. Not as bad as Sushi Revulsion on Tacoma Mall blvd but that is not saying much. Save your money and try Blue Island in Federal Way, they do the best at conveyor belt sushi. Service at Red Tuna was borderline too friendly but that is better than the opposite.

Uh, so this place has already closed? Imagine my surprise that after just a few months, I treked on foot from Toys R Us to the other end of the mall to find … a sign in the window saying they were closed because of management. That doesn’t bode well for any future owners, should they ever open again. In general, the sushi here is pretty good and they’ll make things that aren’t on the menu. The prices are reasonable, too. I am disappointed that they aren’t open since Tacoma could use a good sushi restaurant.

I was hungry and wanted to find something cheap. You can buy a meal between $ 3 – 10, the only compliant I have about the pricing is on the bottled beverages, most of them start at $ 30. The food was alright, wish the service was a little more present. If you go here with a group and sit in the back you will probably enjoy yourself more.

No complaints here, pretty standard American Sushi fare compared to my other two conveyor belt sushi places in Olympia(although I think they both have better Sushi… Sushi Train and Sushi Go Round). One tricky thing though, their gray plate looks a lot like their brown plate… the difference is $ 2.50 between the two though. I accidentally picked and ate a $ 5.00 plate off the belt. Not that it wasn’t good but, in my mind, it wasn’t worth $ 5.00 and I’m still mad I got bamboozled.

Slightly by default, we ended up having dinner here. We found through Unilocal!that our original choice was now closed. But wait, there seems to be a new place at the mall. Getting there, we find that they have live music in a separate lounge area, open late for you night owls. The décor is pleasant but don’t lean back to hard if you are sitting in a booth, ours was not secured and slid back slightly. Their twist on sunshine is a little to the left of traditional. Some are topped with mango /strawberries and whipped cream! Ok, we decided to pass on those. The salmon was good. Negi hamachi nigiri was really good, according to wifey and middle child. I personally enjoyed the ika nigiri. Its made with a sliver of nori and topped with a chiso leaf. Hesitant at first, I tried it, three times! The combination is good. The chiso adds some bite to the flavor of the kia. I’ll say it again, a good combination. Both of the owners were there the night we went. They both greeted with us on separate occasions and were very gracious. Mr. Qwock, you need to come visit Hawaii. Teach someone here how to construct that ika chiso nigiri.

We came in last night for the first time and this is the story so far… The ladies that are working there and the owners are absolutely hilarious. They are fun and friendly, helpful and attentive. So they overall get 5 stars The food is good, but not great. So it get 3 stars. My chief complaint, muscles covered and baked in cheddar cheese… why oh WHYYYYY would you do that? Just don’t. Other than that the food is good, fish is fresh, and they have some variety. I think another place they could improve on is variety, its ok, but it could be great! Maybe that will change if/when the place gets busier. They did tell us they are trying to have live music in there, some nights jazz and some nights a DJ, so the place has potential

I have been a fan of conveyor belt style sushi for a while and have my favorite haunts, but was pleased that there was a new place in town to visit. I had planned to take a friend there so I decided to check it out first. Although super nice and(very) anxious to serve you, the staff seemed to be too happy and perky, to a point of surreal humor. At a point I wondered if I was being punk’d or was on a hidden camera show, because some of the service was so aggressive and persistent, I wasn’t able to take in the experience very well. Add to it low lighting and color coded plates that were difficult to see or determine the color of due to muted multicolored patterns, you have a bit of a challenge. The most amusing was the Miso soup that was presented to me gratis by the owner. The server put it down, warning me that it was very hot — good thing to know. Within moments of her departure, she arrived back quite quickly to ask how I liked the soup… I said I wasn’t sure, because the soup was quite hot. so went my first go. Not being sure if it was just my own perception, or an off night, I still brought my friend. She liked the style, but was not really impressed by the wall-o-products or the décor. We did agree that the presentation was nice, although not nice enough for the price they were asking for many of the plates. After being seated, our adventure began, and we were asked if we were familiar with sushi. When we assured our perky server that we already had experience with sushi in this style, our server made a comment that we must be «experts»…which came off sort of stiff. I assured her I was not a seasoned professional, but could work chop sticks and handle more than my share of wasabi. after this interaction, we found it difficult to have a private conversation, and when one did rest between servings, you were swooped down upon by staff eager to see if you were ok, or if something might be needed or wrong. It was funny for a bit, but grew tiresome after a while, and the TGI Fridays perkfest became a sort of old. Our meal was finished shortly after quick question regarding the tea which turned into another patronizing encounter. To their credit, they do give a military discount, and I was impressed by the cashier that was friendly and happy to take our payments. My friend quickly exited, and was followed by the overly friendly owner out into the mall, where they stood in partial silence until I joined them, and we made our speedy departure. If you don’t mind hoovering staff, slightly over priced food and don’t care how much you are paying, this will be a great place for you… but if you were truly a sushi expert, you wouldn’t go there in the first place.

Being the Sushi Sensei that I am, hahaha… I will have to say that I was extremely disappointed with this establishment. I may give them a try again but it’s nothing that will be on my radar because well, the Sushi SUCKED!!! The service itself was pretty good, we entered from the parking lot, not the mall side, so entering through the lounge area was different, I hear they are open until 2am? The ambiance is trendy, that I liked and as I said the service was friendly and attentive:) Now to the part that made the me give them a 2-star is the sushi selection… blah! everything was some kind of doctored up california roll!!! Were’s the nigiri, spicy tuna etc. The chef was more attentive to the other side, which I get, it was a table of young ladies but hey!!! can we get some decent sushi on the belt, PLEASE!!! None the less, we will see if we visit, I am actually quite surprised that my experience was so poor:(oh and the prices are a little high, which I expect as they are in a mall. I will stay with my fav locale, Sushi Revolution.

I always feel like kaiten sushi is a zen-like experience that lulls my soul into peaceful, Japanese-flavored complacence watching the colorful and interesting shapes glide past. Red Tuna is the newest place to experience this relaxing activity and features moody lighting, sincere service and a super convenient location right next to Nordstrom. They have sake, beer and wine, some pretty bad live music and pretty great 80’s sound track. I took my nephew, who was visiting from Idaho, here for his first kaiten sushi experience. There was lots of variety on the belt and it looked mostly pretty fresh with some original items like crab legs and carrot cake as well as lots of more expected rolls and sushi. My nephew enjoyed the sushi and squid salad and the novelty of food gliding past. The pickled ginger seemed extra delicious. I’d go back again because I love to just sit down and choose things and have the option to order favorites as well which was easy and quick. Sushi eaters should know that there are varying degrees of sushi quality. Conveyer belt(or kaiten) sushi is the fast food of the sushi world! Sushi snobs should probably go somewhere else. For a variety of reasons. You shouldn’t expect the quality that you’d get at a more expensive, made-to-order, run-by-a-sushi-master place. Even in Japan the kaiten sushi is cheapy with lots of mayo-based krab salad and sometimes even french fries or shrimp cocktail or?

Mediocre Japanese food, moderately priced. Fun to grab food from track and staff is very friendly but if I am spending 50 bucks for lunch I think I would go someplace with a higher quality food.

For kaiten sushi, I liked it pretty well. There are a lot of California-y rolls, but those are tasty, nicht wahr? Delicious, and I will be back for more. They should get punch cards though!

I’m a big fan of conveyor belt sushi and was super excited about this new place inside the mall. I went there last night for dinner and came out feeling pretty disappointed. I wonder why anyone would invest so much money to open up a nice looking restaurant and serve bad food. I really wanted to like this place, since I’m at the mall a lot and I love sushi, but the food was so bad that I’m never going again. Here is my experience: As soon as we got there, the server(super sweet) seated us at the bar. The first dish I grabbed was Masago. I regretted grabbing that dish as soon as I put one piece into my mouth. I’m guessing the roll was left on the belt for way too long, since the nori was tough. The next dish I grabbed, which was a deep fried roll, was also old and soggy. At this point, I let the server know that the roll was old and nasty. We ordered a seared salmon dish, and the sushi person seared the whole roll instead of just the salmon. The rice was all burnt. It was nasty. We ordered baked mussels and asked the server for«fresh» ones, straight from the oven, and she gave us super cold and hard mussels. I’m guessing the sushi men here are all new and don’t have enough experience. If you’re looking for good food, skip this place. Wish we had good conveyor belt sushi in Tacoma. Until then, I’m driving to Federal Way for Blue Island.

Oh JEEZ. This is worse than I expected. I would give it 1 star but the waiter that took care of us was nice:) I don’t even know what the last roll. I tried but it was so gross! I have been to ENOUGH sushi places(worked and ate) to know… what most sushi look like and what they are. So I was eyeing this one plate… that DEFINITELY looked like the Spider roll… it had the gobo and the little cute green stuff. I tried it and #($*#… ITWASSOOOOOOGROSS! I wanted to puke. I don’t know why. but I ate the 2nd piece… to see if it would be better. My mom. doesn’t know sushi like I do. so she just ate some plates here and there. I probably. won’t be coming again. I looked at a lot of the plates. and some were really small. some were cold.(fried). Just by looking at the restaurant. I was disappointed it being a conveyor belt. I really like conveyor sushi places and looked forward to this place but. SERIOUSLY. have you seen the place? It’s HUGE. I think honestly… sushi places should be small and cozy. instead of huge. with like few customers and a BUNCH of food. that just… slides around. when no one eats it. On top of that… the chefs. were making MORE plates. when there were literally… 50+ plates. out there.

I went here last Saturday, and have thought almost every day since that I should go back this weekend… As a general rule, I hate sushi. For the first time, I actually ate and enjoyed it! I only had one kind, though, because I did not know what most of the items were and I’m kind of picky about fish. The hot tea was disgusting, although my friend wound up drinking mine and liked it… I guess everyone has different taste buds! The service was really good! Definitely came with a smile! All in all, I definitely recommend this place. =)

So, I consider myself a fan of sushi, and I love the kaiten sushi(conveyor belt) places. Its nice to be able to go somewhere and have lots of different options roll by in front of you and maybe see something that looks good that you never would have ordered otherwise. That being said, of the 10 of these type of sushi places I have eaten at in the Puget Sound area, I would have to say that this is my least favorite. To be fair, I realize they have only been open for less than a month. That being said, there is no excuse for a sushi place to not know how to make rice. While I didn’t have a problem with the taste of the rice, in general, the fact was that probably 40−50% of the rolls on the conveyor were falling apart. To me, that indicates that the rice wasn’t made well, or perhaps that they weren’t rolled well, at a minimum. Even some of the nori-wrapped items were coming apart. They also offered several hot items that were on their conveyor belt. While I am sure they were hot when they first came out, two of the three that we grabbed were cold(and I mean cold, not just a little less arm). This indicates they must have been on the conveyor for quite a long time. From the experiences I have had at other places, I would think these items should have been long removed. Once I grabbed them, removed the lid and found they were cold, I felt like I was stuck with them and so we ate them anyway. Perhaps I could have flagged down one of the servers and complained about them, but to be fair to the staff, I didn’t make any effort to do so. While their prices weren’t ridiculous, they were definitely more expensive than most of the sushi places in the area. I don’t mind paying a little more if the food is better, and I understand that a mall location is going to be more expensive than a strip mall location somewhere else. However, if you are going to put yourself in the Nordstrom side of the mall, with Nordstrom level prices, then you should serve Nordstrom quality food as well. While I don’t have their menu in front of me to compare prices directly with other places, here is one example. I love octopus. That is, I love it when it is prepared correctly, and not turned into shoe leather. One of the things I love about sushi places is that I can always get a couple pieces of octopus sushi at a reasonable price. They are almost always served on the cheapest or 2nd cheapest level plate at a sushi place. Not at Red Tuna. They are $ 3.00 for two pieces, which is their middle level price point. I don’t know whether they were good or not, because I refuse to pay $ 3.00 for two pieces of sushi that I can get at a similar restaurant for $ 1.00 or $ 1.50. Anyway, my general impressions were: service was outstanding, prices were too high, and food quality was too low. If they could improve their food quality to match the prices they charge, it would be nice to have another kaiten sushi place in town. I will give them another try in a month or two, and I would recommend that other people do the same. Though, I guess in a restaurant like this, you are free to go in, sit down, watch the food go by for a few minutes, and, if it still looks as bad as it did on my visit, just leave without having spent a dime. I hope that is not what happens on my next visit, but I fear it will be.

I’ve eaten at conveyor belt sushi in Japan so was thrilled with the idea there was one right in the mall and I could go there for lunch when shopping. Silly me to think it would be as good. The servers were very nice and attentive but it’s difficult, at least it was for us, to get the chef’s attention to have them make us something different that what was going around on the belt. Second, when I go for sushi, I want fish, not a bunch of rolls with pretend crab inside and something else on top. That’s what made up the majority of the plates going round and round. we got there at 11:30 which was probably early although when we left it was the middle of lunch hour and they were not that busy. I also wondered how long they let the sushi go round and round before they take it off the belt for health reasons. there didn’t seem to be any way for them to know what has been on and what is new which i think is a concern. The price was certainly right and it cost my friend and I each about $ 12 for lunch and that included tip. We did notice that mid meal they changed the color of plates on some of the dishes, probably because they weren’t selling because of the price but then we had to pay full price and the late comers got the dish for less. Will I go back, maybe when I’m shopping but I won’t make a special trip.

I continue to be blown away by Red Tuna! The food is delicious. The prices are fantastic. The service is spectacular. The owner has amazing energy and genuinely cares. The chefs accommodate any request with a smile. The servers are attentive and fun. All of this coming from a self proclaimed foodie and someone that has insanely high standards for service. We will continue to go there over and over and over again. You should too!
