This place is okay, I’m giving it a 2 stars because when I order chicken teriyaki it was warm and not hot. Made to order food should be fresh and hot. I felt maybe it’s been sitting in the warmer. Also my food came out pretty quickly less than 5 minutes. The sushi looks good maybe I’ll like the sushi better.

I used to eat here all the time as a kid, when it was a Dairy Queen! Anyone remember those days? When H. Salt Esquire was kitty-corned across the intersection? Yummy! Anyway, my mom discovered this place for her favorite, Yakisoba. She insisted we go there for lunch one day when we were downtown at a doctor visit. Since I’m a huge fan of teriyaki and sweet & sour, I agreed to give them a try. She assured me I would love this place. MOMWASRIGHT! We continued to eat here once a week when I was taking her to some weekly appointments in town. Mom left us in mid-2008, but I never forgot about Bento at 6th& Alder! Seems the same lady runs the front counter every hour of every day. She’s always very friendly and courteous. She always gets your order correct, and understands you each time. I make it a point to go here at least once a month. I’d go more if I didn’t live 10 miles away. My favorite food is their teriyaki chicken of course! But their fried rice is also to die for! Awesome shrimp fried rice, but I’ve never had their chicken or beef fried rice. Normally I stick with the stuff they use if you ask for fried rice instead of white rice with your order. I’ve never been a fan of white rice without a bunch of butter and salt on it, so I just order their fried rice substitute. LOVEIT! Very limited seating inside, which is expected when you realize you’re in a former Dairy Queen. But they never seem to be super packed, so you WILL get a table if you chose to eat there. I do it all the time. They DO get busy at times, but many people are there to pick up to-go orders. One of my favorites menu items here is their teriyaki chicken, their sweet & sour chicken/teriyaki chicken combo, and their fried rice. Give them a try! You WILL be glad you did, and you’ll quickly see how someone can turn this into one of their favorite little secrets!

This place doesn’t get busy enough to constantly have fresh sushi. I ordered pork teriyaki and spicy tuna roll. Teriyaki was swimming in sauce… it was just okay. The spicy tuna roll… first bite and I can tell the fish was not fresh. Scary. Maybe they should just stick with teriyaki swimming in sweet sauce. I am giving them two stars for service.

Not a place to go on a hot day. I was in a group of 4 very hot and very tired people. They had been there before and seemed to enjoy it. I was disappointed there was no air conditioning, but I can deal with it if the food was good. It was ok. I got the special that seemed like a deal, but nothing was particularly special. The gyoza and the tempura were bland, the California roll was warm, and the teriyaki chicken was just ok. I hope I just caught on a bad day because people seem to love it.

Ordered Chicken Stir-fry and Chicken-breast Teriyaki. Both were freshly make and both were excellent! The teriyaki sauce is fruity and not too sweet, unlike many others locally. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and smells good. A peek into the kitchen showed that it was clean as well. We will be back to explore the menu.

Note this place under«most unassuming.» I drove by it for months thinking no way, but tried it on a whim and it is delicious! I am a sucker for your typical teriyaki chicken, and this place has yet to disappoint. Their chicken is tender and I have never ran into any extra fats or other any unpleasant pieces that often come with meat dishes. And the price is on point. I highly recommend.

This place is underrated. I never tried it before recently because it looks scary on the outside, but the teriyaki lunch special is delicious and cheap. We’re regulars now.

I haven’t ate here in over a year because they re-vamped their menu, increased prices, added phở, and took away the veggie tempura. A friend wanted to go last night and I was pleasantly surprised that they got rid of the phở and put prices back to where they were… I guess they figured out people weren’t digging the change… They still have their daily special for $ 6.99. Chicken teriyaki, two pieces of a California roll, rice, salad, and veggie tempura. Soooo good. However you can’t get the veggie tempura with the regular bento boxes. You get two pieces of gyoza instead. Not very vegetarian friendly, but you can now sub about 10 different rolls for your 6 piece California roll in your bento box. I dig that. I will be a regular again :)

My friend and I went here last week and had a terrible experience. We drive by here all the time but had not tried it due to the other great teriyaki food near by and the run down building it is in. The reviews on Unilocal were so great that we decided to give it a chance and see if it lived up to the positive reviews. We arrived on Friday and were happy to see that the inside was a little better than the outside, and there seemed to be a good amount of people there. We ordered our food around 7:20pm and sat down at a booth(which we had to clear our selves since all 3 of the open booths were not cleaned off from the last people). We sat and waited, and waited. We watched multiple people walk in after us, other their food to go, sit down and wait, and receive their food and leave. Multiple people. After 50 minutes of waiting I walked up and asked the woman at the register about my food, she then remembered what I had ordered and ran into the back. A few minutes later I asked her if it was close to being done or if I still had a long wait and she said it was almost ready. About five minutes later(a total of an hour waiting, no exaggeration) our food arrived. I had a bento box, it looked fine, pretty typical. My friend had the honey garlic chicken and it was covered in garlic. An insane amount of garlic and the garlic did not look or taste cooked at all. And to top it off his rice was hard and was the hard kind that is at the bottom of the rice cooker. We then went up to the register and got our money back. We were never told there would be a long wait or even apologized to for the one hour wait. Needless to say we will not be back.

Cooked fresh! I ordered chicken and beef teriyaki it was great. The beef was tender and clean no gritty taste. No strange feeling after eating. Would give 5 star but didn’t like salad dressing need to be on the side. Shared with my honey servicing potion on point. Will be back. I wish I had more business in the area:) Keep up the good work. Will be back! Thank you!

I love this place but they recently made some changes :( They went up in prices but also took things away. My tofu bento used to come with veggie tempura but now it comes with gyoza. This is kind of backwards since I’m a vegetarian and cannot eat meat gyoza. The girl that was working said I could not make a substitution, but can order tempura on the side(they don’t have veggie tempura to order anymore, just prawn). They are also trying to appeal to the phở craze now which could explain the other changes. I don’t think they should have changed the bentos. Especially if they are going up In price. I hope they make other changes like taking the ugly signs off the windows and a paint job. PLEASEBRINGVEGGIETEMPURABACK. Probably will go here less now :(hate giving two stats but that’s how sad we all are.

Based on the outside I would have never in a million years walked into this place. It wasn’t until my bf at the time took me here that I fell in love. First of all you walk in and it’s very clean, very unlike the outside. The staff is incredibly nice. The food is absolutely the best part. My bf and I would share the«daily special» as it was enough for both of us at only $ 7.99. We did branch out a few times and get the fried rice which was equally amazing. If you are in the area and feeling some teriyaki, look no further than this little hub. It’s worth it.

The portion sizes here are incredible! I had the chicken yakisoba and had trouble finishing my delicious, sweet mound of noodles. My friend partook of a bento box which had similarly ginormous portions. The California roll was excellent, as was the sauce laden chicken. Only the miso soup was considered average. Not bad at all mind you, just average.

Slow service, sometimes hard to communicate orders to staff. I ended up getting something other than what I ordered on more than one occasion. Always preferred Goofy Goose for both value and taste.

Went here to have«hangover food», ordered spicy chicken bento box, and chicken teriyaki. The spicy chicken was so good, good kick at the end, salad was watery and didnt seem to have dressing on it. I will say after having a bite of the spicy chicken and then the teriyaki, the teriyaki didnt seem to have much of a taste. Also the sushi was just average, safeway style… Id go back for another try. Its close and cheap. UPDATE: 2.21.13 I just wanted to update… Since I thought this place was decent I had my boyfriend go there and get take out one night, it was horrible. Cold, tasteless, I was less than disappointed, Im sorry to have to find a different place…

The owner of the restauranter are so nice and welcoming. The food is pretty good, can’t really go wrong with teriyaki. It’s super close to campus so it’s a nice getaway from all the school food. The wait can be quite long at times, but I think it’s worth the wait :)

This is a great place when you need a Teriyaki fix. I made fairly regular trips here when I lived close by and would usually order the«daily special»(essentially a bento box packed with teriyaki, tempura, gyoza, rice, California roll, salad) as it’s a great deal. It’s a tiny little restaurant that’s been pasted over with photos of Japanese fair; what it’s lacking in ambiance, it makes up in character. The food is pretty okay, nothing spectacular, but it’ll satisfy a Teriyaki craving. The service, however, is great; everyone who works at Bento is super nice. Worth a visit.

First of all, the family who runs this restaurant are literally in the running for sweetest people on Earth. I’ve been going to this lil’ gem for seven years, and while the food isn’t worth five stars, the service is. It’s not super nice on the inside, but it’s clean and you never have to wait more than 15 – 20 minutes for take-out. Food-wise, it deserves four stars. The teriyaki is good, the fried american/chinese/japanese hybrid dishes are good, and the sushi is actually quite good, although the downside is there are only 7 rolls to choose from. Overall, if you spend 7 bucks, you’re getting 1.5 to 2 meals, and the leftovers are delicious, with or without a microwave.
