My family and I loved having diner here. I had the amazing grilled tuna over mesclun done just the way I like it, rare! My wife had the steak frites and lived hers. My son had the grilled cheese which he devoured. Great food made with with fresh ingredients and nothing over done or trying too hard to impress which is exactly what is impressive! Friendly warm service too! Highly recommend!

I literally cannot speak anything less of fantastic of Maxwell’s. This is the absolute best place in Stratford, CT to get the finest craft beer. And not just Connecticut crafts beer, beer from Wisconsin, North Carolina, California, etc. Honestly best place for craft beer in Stratford. I won’t stop there. The burgers. Goodness. They’re god damn delicious. Not to mention the sliders. If you’re looking for a good bite to eat and some of the finest craft beer in the area, come to Maxwell’s.

Food is excellent and the service is great. We have sat in the restaurant for dinner and also sat at the bar for lunch one day. Awesome bloody mary’s! Happy to see something good come into Stratford. I hope they stick around!

Stopped by early Sunday afternoon for a quick lunch and stayed to try out some of the amazing beer selection. Bartender who seemed to be an owner or manager was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Happy hour on a Sunday was a nice surprise as well.

First off, the service at the bar is terrible. The bartender has no idea what he is doing and makes you wait too long for a sugary drink. Second off, the food is terrible. It is no less than salty, under flavored bar food. Definitely not worth the price, I would honestly never go back ever again.

New restaurant in Stratford has been opened for 3 months now. The owner Nick is an awesome host. Very friendly that wants to make sure his guests are happy. Great Beer selection that goes with even better food. Fresh oysters, steak frites. Shrimp/Lobster pappardelle are just some of my favorites! Check this place out. Say Rich sent U

Stopped in to Maxwell’s for a burger and a beer with my Sister. I guess the restaurant is fairly new. The atmosphere is fresh and clean. We both had the Truffled Mushroom and Swiss burger which was delicious. I tried the Parmesan Eggplant Fries because they sounded interesting and our server said they were good. Glad we took the recommendation, SOGOOD! The owner/chef came out to check on our food. Anyway, we were happy we stopped in and would not hesitate to return if in the neighborhood.

Very pleasantly surprised Exceptional food. Stratford restaurants have always been disappointing but the food at maxwells can compete with new haven standouts. The tuna tacos were delicious with its wasabi sauce Steak frites perfect and appetizer fondue was out of this world Not too expensive either It seems to be family-run which I rather support than the corporate chains(abundant in the Stratford area) Top notch especially for Stratford — probably the best restaurant in town right now. Fairly new Hope it stays around

Great place to go for dinner and drinks. Comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff. The menu is diverse, with a nice variety of both meat and seafood dishes. If you enjoy tuna, you can choose from a tuna avocado appetizer served with house made kettle chips, tuna tacos, or a sesame crusted tuna entrée. Wonderful! Maxwells is a great addition to downtown Stratford. Try the Beer Menu. My friends went crazy over the choices… must try!

We were in town recently and saw that Maxwell’s had recently just opened and were anxious to check it out. I, of course, referred to Unilocal, and was grateful for the poster who had pictures of the menu because it sealed the deal! I went with my husband any my mom; the bar had a good number of people in it and the restaurant had the majority of tables filled. We were greeted very pleasantly and seated right away. Our server was great and answered our questions about the menu and gave us plenty of time to make our decision because everything sounded so good! We started with the parmesan eggplant fries that were served with a spicy marinara sauce. My mom and I love eggplant, and my husband isn’t crazy about it, but he could not stop eating these! The fries themselves were great, and the sauce added an extra zing. My mom and I both ordered the balsamic chicken wrap which has tomato relish, fresh spinach, mozzarella, and basil aioli — it was delicious. The wraps were really big and filled with a lot of chicken, we could both only eat one half of the wrap, but wished that we could have eaten the whole thing! My husband ordered Ben’s steakhouse burger with gorgonzola, cracked pepper, frizzled onions, and wilted spinach. I did not try the burger, but he said the combination was something he would never have thought to put together himself, but that he loved so much. We loved the food here and are looking forward to eating here again and trying more items from the menu

A great new place near the Stratford train station! My wife and I tried it for the first time on a late Tuesday night. The staff was very friendly, and the food was first-rate! I started with a «Claudius» to drink – absolutely delicious. We both ordered specials. My wife had the chimichanga and I had the surf & turf burger: a bacon cheeseburger with LOBSTER. Fantastic! We will definitely make this one of our regular places.

My girlfriend and I went there a few weeks ago for Tuesday happy hour. We had three appetizers: wings– ok, parm truffles fries– good taste but every fry was less than an inch long so I had to eat with a fork, prime rib sliders– horrible. Tasted and looked like something I’d get at a hospital cafeteria. I’m really not a complainer and love to give places a chance, however, the bartender did not make eye contact with is once and completely left the entire bar unmanned for 15 minutes! Everyone’s drinks were empty and she didn’t seem pressed about it. When I asked the the check, I ran my phone stop watch and it honestly took just less than 11 minutes to get the bill. Half way through I said I’d try it again, but after the service debacle I’m done! Which is a real shame because stratford is severely hurting for good restaurants. Good thing I live in Fairfield!

I’ve been here a few times now and it’s awesome! I eat at the bar but the menu is the same throughout. Loved the Tuna and Avocado with Kettle Chips and the Salmon burger(hand packed and totally different from any other salmon burger I’ve ever had). I’ve also tried the prime rib spring rolls and the Steakhouse burger. The mussels in saffron sauce are tremendous, the margarita flatbread is excellent and the fries are awesome. The beer selection is possibly the best in town, featuring recently Gandhi-bot on tap and several excellent ipas in cans. The owners are top notch professionals who know the business inside and out and the bartenders are at the top of their game. This is going to be an extremely popular place. Be sure to get there soon before you have to wait to get in!

I am excited that Stratford finally has a place like this. I decided to stop in tonight after hearing good things about it, but I’m not going to lie– this place is WAY better than what I had imagined it would be like. The menu gives you a lot of options but at the same time, it doesn’t overwhelm you like a lot of places do. The menu has a little bit of everything, appetizers, mussels, fish, steaks, chicken, wraps, salad etc. My friend did however mention that he wished they served chicken wings, which they don’t. Being a vegetarian, I sometimes have a hard time finding something other than a Caesar salad to eat. But I was happy to see that I had options at Maxwells. I had the eggplant fries, they were pretty good but I wish I could taste more eggplant and maybe less breading, but then again– anything fried is delicious. I also had the fried oysters, and bruschetta. They were both delicious. The décor is simple, classy and certainly a step up from almost every restaurant in Stratford. This place is not a super upscale fine dining establishment but it is however certainly not a dive bar. It’s somewhere in the middle and I love it. The server who took care of us was Jack. He was polite, attentive, helpful and had a lot of menu knowledge. He was over all great and always made sure our water glasses were filled to the top. The owner was also there. He was also attentive and greeted us upon arrival and as we were leaving. I wish Maxwell nothing but success! Can’t wait to be back.

Just had a great lunch at Maxwell’s American Grille near the RR. The menu was innovative, yet traditionally inspired; the food fresh and delicious; and the wait staff and owner were very attentive. I had delicious tuna tacos and eggplant fries that were a welcome change from the typical side of French fries. Open only a couple weeks, they are a great example of how to create a positive first impression and pleasant dining experience. (Docked one star for a couple minor things)
