The Cupcake Spot

If I lived in St. Pete, I’d be there a lot! After a nice (but tiny) lunch with a friend, I’ll admit I was just a wee bit peckish. OK, I was kind of starving. Enter dessert — specifically, the Cupcake Spot, which was a few blocks away from the restaurant. It looks like the store is undergoing some renovations, but it was still quite welcoming. My friend and I asked about almost every cupcake there, and the employee answered each and every stupid question with a smile and lots of details — she was very good. Anyhow, I went with the lemon pucker with raspberry, as lemon cupcakes are my new crack. It was yummy! I liked the soft, kind of gooey frosting with a nice raspberry hit, as well as the lemon cupcake filled with raspberry goo. Go grab a cupcake and enjoy.

The cupcakes were decent. Ive only had like 2 and I’m not complaining. The ice cream was horrible. Dry or old. I’m not sure. I had to throw it away.
This place won some awards back in 2010 and 2012, what happened?

Best cupcakes ever! Omg they are so good. I go out of my way to stop by here just to satisfy my sweet tooth. Highly highly recommend. I always get the 4 pack bc it’s too hard to pick just one flavor. Haha.

Tasty cupcakes, and now they have ice cream too. Usually they have a special: one scoop for a dollar if you buy a cupcake. Makes for a nice little break in my work day. :)

Forget about the price — doesn’t even matter, get these if you want the best cupcakes around!

Great cupcakes, friendly business! Very personable. Taste is 5 star, design is ⁴⁄₅ (from what I had). My wife brought home a variety for our anniversary a couple of weeks and each one was so delicious. They helped make our day special!

Let me start by saying that I worked for a cupcake place in Ann Arbor that has the best cupcakes AND frosting in the entire world. WITH THAT SAID — I base all of my cupcake reviews off of both the consistency of the cake itself and the taste, texture and density of the frosting.
Service — They were very nice and accommodating. No complaints
The cupcakes I ate were the butterscotch and the buckeye. The butterscotch had a butterscotch chip cake and frosting flavor was unknown. The buckeye had chocolate cake with a peanut butter frosting.
The Butterscotch cake itself was REALLY GOOD! It was moist and the density was perfect. I loved it. The frosting was terrible. It seemed like it was frosting from a can. It didn’t seem homemade, and even if it was, it just did not taste good and made my stomach hurt. It was really heavy and didn’t compliment the cake at all.
The Buckeye I just didn’t like all. The chocolate cake was dry, and with the thick, heavy peanut butter frosting, I wasn’t even able to swallow more than one bite, I had to throw it away.
You guys have something good going with the butterscotch, and I imagine that you probably have a nice white cake recipe base, but my suggestion would be to work on the chocolate recipe so it’s not so dry, and altogether rethink your frosting recipes. They are really, really bad.

This place has the best cupcakes. The flavors they offer are always different and spot on. They are a little pricey, but well worth it if you want great cupcakes. I would highly recommend this place to all of my friends. The buckeye, dulce, smores, and the chocolate Elvis are our favorites.

Love the cupcake spot! I think $ 3.25 for one is a little I outrageous but for special occasions, I will splurge to treat my family.

I cannot say enough about The Cupcake Spot. The service is solid and they are the best cupcakes I have had in this state. I know cupcakes are a personal choice but I like them better than even the beloved GiGis in Tampa. Too much frosting no GiGis for me.
I wish I could make my house smell like this place smells when you walk in. My favorites are Fuzzy Brown, Berry Squared, and Key Lime.
Parking can be tough depending on the time of day but definitely worth the inconvenience.

Great place to run in and grab a cupcake. They are 3.25 for one or 6 for two. I tried the Better Thans which is the one that got them an award. It is a chocolate chip cupcake with creamcheese icing topped with chocolate chips and it was excellent. Staff was nice. Parking is metered and you need quarters. I wish they offered mini cupcakes.

It’s hard NOT to give a place that makes cupcakes less than four stars! For this place it was easy. Their «Better Than» and the Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting were simply… Perfect

Cute downtown spot, very friendly. The keylime was great. The chocolate coconut gave me a horrible sugar spike that left me in a dreadful haze for over an hour.

Love the flavors especially the cubby. I tend to buy two — one to eat before I get to the corner (yum) and the other to give away/​share. The two or three times, I visited the facility, the workers were pleasant and helpful.
I wished their business hours were extended after the general core business hours. Other that, I have no other suggestions for improvement.

Nice spot. Really basic, just a display case with cupcakes.
Tried the Elvis (banana cupcake with peanut butter frosting) and the dark chocolate. Both were fresh, moist and delicious. Friendly service.
3.25 per cupcake seemed fair for downtown St Pete. Would revisit!

Bunny Hops Cupcake.
This was by far the best cupcake I have ever tasted.
The cream cheese icing was perfect. The perfect texture and flavor. The carrot and walnut cake was to die for. The cake was so moist! I have never experienced such a mouth watering sensation as when I bit into the Bunny Hop Cupcake.
In my visits to other cupcake shops I’ve always wished for cake as moist as this Bunny Hop Cupcake was. As far as icing. Other places have a problem finding that perfect balance between homemade, sweet, and creamy tastes. The icing was perfect. It had that perfectly sweet, creamy, homemade taste and great texture. A perfect balance.
I will be dreaming of this cupcake.
Please check out my other reviews for cupcake shops. This by far surpasses any cupcake I’ve tasted.
Ps, I purchased two more flavors to try!

My brother loves the S’mores Cupcakes from The Cupcake Spot so we thought it would be funny if we bought one and texted him a picture. (I am a terrible big sister. A good sister would have mailed her brother cupcakes.)

Judging from the lack of cupcakes behind the counter at 4pm it appears that The Cupcake Spot bakes their cupcakes freshly each day. $ 3.50 seems to be the going rate for a cupcake so the prices were fair.

I’m probably not the best judge since I’m not a huge fan of cupcakes, but I thought the S’mores Cupcake was just ok. I liked that the cupcake wasn’t covered with a mountain of icing, but I was hoping the cupcake would taste more like a S’more than chocolate cake.

I have to admit that I have a cupcake obsession. The Cupcake Spot is one of my top 3.
I appreciate the fact that they have remained true to their craft and only do cupcakes.
My favorites in no particular order are the S’mores (adult version of the campfire classic), Berry Squared (incredible flavor packed in a little cake), and Butterscoth Baby (filled with butterscotch chips and incredibly moist).
My one suggestion is for cakes with fillings. I appreciate the fact that they don’t load the cupcakes with icing however most of the flavor is in the icing or the cake. And the cakes are delicious and moist but I would love to see fillings in the cupcakes.
However, I will say the staff makes the place. They are always pleasant and seem genuine. They have also been tremendous ambassadors for our city.

I have tried the Tuxedo, Butterscotch and Red Velvet. Delish! The Red Velvet was very moist and the cream cheese icing was just right. However the Butterscotch was to DIE for! I can hardly describe it because it was just that tasty, and oh so moist! Definitely my fav!
I only stop in when I’m in the area, usually after eating dinner nearby or after seeing a movie down the street. The temptation is hard to resist, but each time we go the cupcakes are so gooood!
