Hair On Central

went to hair on central. took forever to get done. while i was there with the color sitting, the stylist took 2 more clients. my color is now ruined. not once did she check on my color as i was sitting waiting patiently.
i showed her a picture of what i liked and wanted to be done, or as close to as possible, but it ended up nothing like the picture.
by the time i was finished i just wanted to get out of that salon. im not sure who my stylist was, but she was an older lady with shoulder length hair, and her chair was the last one on the left side of the salon.
i would recommend going somewhere else. i love salon lofts on 4^th st, but they were booked and i couldnt get in in time for my trip back home.

I came in to have highlights and left with rust colored hair. I came back the next day to have it fixed. The next day I washed my hair one time and whatever they did washed out because my hair was the same color it was after I left the first time. Now I have to go find someone to fix it… the owners did not refund my money and actually argued with me that my hair came out like it was supposed to. I don’t think that many women like to walk around with rust colored hair. (Unless of course intended) This place is not worth your time! I am so tired of the crap people have to put up with from bad mom and pop businesses like this, they do not deserve to exist in the community. There are are a lot of places in and around the Tampa Bay area — save yourself the money, time and aggravation, just go someplace else.

Coloring looks ok. The airbrush sucked. If you have curly or ethnic hair don’t get an airbrush by Linda. What pissed me off the most is that it cost me 30 bucks to get an airbrush way worse than the one I do on myself. The front desk girl lies to my face saying my hair looked pretty, when it looked dry and opaque.

So this salon has changed my life. Period. End of story. I’ll go on just to let you know. I came here a little over six months ago on the recommendation of a friend because I was looking for a big change for my hair. I wanted to go from shoulder length to super short. I knew my current stylist would make me look like Kate from the TLC show Jon and Kate plus 8 when she had the porcupine hair. My gut instinct was right. Mille changed my life! She knows hair like no other stylist I’ve ever met. I have a funky head to begin with so doing what she did, is just short of a miracle. She’s patient and not afraid to take risks. She listens to her clients but isn’t afraid to tell you if a style won’t work. I get at least one complement a day on my haircut and I feel fresh and confident. All of the stylists know what they’re doing at this place. Everyone leaves happier than when they came in. I see some trolls on this site who are boo-​hooing a bad cut but it’s hard to believe that they ever spoke up while they were still at the salon. Supercuts is less than a mile away. I’ll give you directions. HOC rocks

Love Hair On Central, especially Darla. Everyone is always friendly and helpful and I always enjoy my time there.
I have worn my hair long, short, long and short again. Darla always listens to what I want (or think I want) and we work through the process of creating my new style.
They are also great colorists and have finally gotten my hair to a color that I love.
If you live Downtown it’s an easy walk and I have never had a problem finding parking on the street.

I am new to the area and was looking for a salon to call home when I made an appointment here. I have a short haircut and it was growing out and wanted the same cut. I came prepared with several pictures of myself from a few months earlier so the stylist could see my cut at every angle. Well… lets just say I went home in tears. So I called the salon back to speak to the stylist and she had me come back a few hours later so she could try and fix it. All she did was cut more off and it looks worse. So now I am stuck with a boy short haircut. its crazy uneven and there isn’t a damn thing I can do about it but let it grow out. There is nothing worse than hating your hair cut and not having enough hair left to fix it! I would never recommend this salon to anyone! The stylist was nice but she even asked me to say kind words to her boss when she came in so that she wouldn’t get in trouble. I feel bad giving a bad review but I am stuck with this terrible cut and they didn’t even offer to give my money back. 55 bucks for a terrible cut…

I’ve been searching for a hair salon for some time. I’m very picky about where I go and who cuts my hair. After searching, I found HOC. A lovely, quaint salon nestled in downtown St Pete. When I walked in, I was greeted by the owner, Diane, and Marybeth who was my stylist. Since I was in the night before New Years, it was quiet just the two of them chatting. After coming in and chatting with Marybeth on what I’d like to have done, she took me over to wash my hair. I love having my hair washed by someone, they are so gentle. And then, to make it more relaxing, a scalp and neck massage during the shampoo/​conditioner. Can I have this everyday? Once my hair was clean I sat in the chair and was draped with a smock. I always told myself, «don’t cut your hair before your wedding, and don’t get fringe!». Well, sorry conscious, I needed a change. And the reason for my change not only to look younger, but the character from a book I was reading, her hair was this way. I’ve had my hair this way in the past as well. #thankyouAnastasiaSteele. My hair is thick, ethnic and when it becomes long, it wears it down and I look older. So, I opted for a trim and fringe plus whispies to frame my face.
Marybeth is a nice girl and so easy to chat with. She was thankful that I came in and made her night. Chatted the whole time and enjoyed the company. While in the background, music of the 1950’s played. Really set the tone since my wedding is vintage 50’s. :) Once she had done snipping and clipping my hair, I looked on the floor and saw all the hair that was chopped Off and I still had a good amount on my head! After she dried and styles it she whisked me around in the chair to face the mirror. A haircut will always make one feel better. My only concern I noticed after a day when I washed and styled my hair, was that I only had layering on one side and not the other… not sure if this was because we chatted so much and perhaps she forgot and I was not paying attention either since I was not facing the mirror. But, I will wait a few months and go back and have it corrected then. It’s only really noticeable wen my hair is straight, so I just let it air drive into waves. Can’t say I will be back.

Love this place! Milli is the BEST stylist EVER! And she’s a genuinely nice person too. I highly recommend her. :)

This salon is great because everyone that works there is very friendly. Whenever I visit St. Pete, it make sure to make an appointment for hair extensions. they do a really good job at matching the color and they look really natural.

Only two reviews here? Wow. Okay. I tried this place because when you do a google search, there are over a dozen reviews on the web all with 4 – 5 stars.
The salon is centrally located in the heart of downtown St. Pete at Central and 5^th. There’s parking for a ridiculous hourly charge, but if you park a few blocks back past 4, you get free parking for 2 hours.
I’ve generally been to only Aveda salons b/​c their products are all natural and don’t test on animals, but I couldn’t find one near me with good reviews, so I checked into this place. This salon, on of the few in the area that uses an Italian line Kemon, which is just like Aveda. (FYI — according to the stylist I talked to Aveda is great for brunettes, but if you want a bright blonde or non traditional color, then Kemon delivers a better color result.) I have to say, I have been coloring my hair since I was 16 years old, and this line honestly delivered one of the best and richest colors.
And now for what I AM always looking for in reviews — the name and opinion of the actually stylist b/​c let’s face it — it doesn’t matter how gosh darn fancy a salon is, if your stylist SUCKS then your experience and hair will SUCK.
I had Paul. The last male stylist I had made me cry after delivering a color that was not at all what I was looking for and, in girl world, other than being stood up or something boy related, there is no worse an experience than leaving a salon in tears.
Paul is from CA and was schooled in CA. That almost automatically makes him probably one of the top 25% of stylist in this state. Even though I was a few minutes late, Paul took a good 10 minutes to talk with me, go over pictures and ask me questions about my hair color. Even though Im sure I made no sense, he made sense out of my gibberish and summed up what I wanted my color to be. I had a full color Paul actually actually painstakingly painted on the color in sections. His application was extremely thorough — as it should be. The only issue was that even though the color was very fade resistant, after 2 months it faded more into a reddish brunette, which I hate. So I’m not sure if it was the color concoction or what, so I’m going to continue my search for a stylist.
Paul also gave me probably the best blowout I’ve ever had. I will go back to him for that. Color and a perfect blowout for $ 85 in downtown St. Pete?!? Not too shabby.

It’s always difficult to find a new hairdresser! New to St. Pete, I decided to try Hair on Central and my stylist was Kim. I have long hair and require just a trim along with some high and low lights. I was happy with the trim as she kept my length. Many stylists can get «scissor happy» and I was thankful she didn’t cut too much. When I got home and pulled my hair into a pony tail, I realized the highlights were an inch out from my roots appearing like I was due for a touch up even though I had just got it done.
I made another appointment to have it touched up and get my bangs trimmed a bit shorter. I was happy they welcomed me back and at no additional charge. However, I was quite disappointment when she trimmed my bangs. Instead of angled side swept bangs, they were cut straight across and looked choppy compared to the flow of the rest of my hair. I expressed my thoughts and she tried to razor them into shape but there wasn’t much she could do to fix it.
In 4 weeks, they’ll be fine but for a hair professional, I wouldn’t believe a bang trimming to be a very complex request. I’m grateful they fixed my coloring at no charge and overall, the color turned out well. However, I felt a sense of low confidence in their skills here and do not plan to return.

I’ve been a faithful customer of Hair on Central since they opened. I have never been happier with my hair, both with cut and color! Darla is a fantastic stylist. She always listens to what I want to do with my hair and makes helpful recommendations when she sees there can be improvements. The space is fun and products are fabulous. Ask about their hair extension services. I’m trying them out for the first time and love having longer hair with more body! Highly recommend!

This salon is awesome. Everyone here is talented and friendly. Fairly priced as well. They also have a great line of haircare products, called Enjoy, I recommend these as well. If you want really awesome cut and color, go to hair on central, you’ll be happy you did!

I have been to numerous places throughout St. Petersburg and well let’s say I leave and they are just ok cuts … My girlfriend had her hair done one day and it was beautiful so I thought well what the heck I have lots of hair …
Highlights cut and style — from the moment I walked in I was greeted and offered a beverage. Very clean shop they definitely take pride. Met the owner as well as she came and welcomed me and welcomed me to their salon.
Cheryl you rock! She didn’t let me see till the end and I was thrilled. While waiting on my highlights she took an appointment from a couple of our local Rays — I was asking her a bit about the shop and how busy they are apparently when the Vinoy is really busy they will direct their over flow to this salon, I can see why. Found my home front now.
