Ventured to Tree House Vegetarian Restaurant on Saturday night for a birthday dinner. Dimly lit and intimate, yet simultaneously casual, this neighborhood gem is fit for all occasions. I tried a number of dishes and all were hits. Tree House does a fantastic job incorporating a rainbow of flavors and textures into the menu while remaining plant-based. Snacks: — Fried beets(*gf, v): Addicting. I don’t know how these are made but they are perfectly crisped with just the right amount of salt. I licked the aioli clean. A must order. — Tomato basil soup of the day(v): Vegan perfection. SO creamy and topped with sweet cornbread croutons. Appetizers: — Brussels sprouts salad(*gf, v): Incredible. My table ordered 3 to share and then I ordered a 4th for myself. Sorry, not sorry at all. — Burrata: Small but satisfying. — Empanadas(*v): A comfort food classic. These were my least favorite of the appetizers but I don’t love empanadas so may not be the best person to ask. — Butternut squash ravioli special(v*): This was al dente perfection. Can order with goat or vegan cheese. — Mushroom Bruschetta special(v): Perfectly marinated mushrooms and crispy chickpeas. The toasts got a little soggy under the vegetables but were delicious nonetheless. — Chile relleno: A helluva pepper. Comes oozing with melty cheese. Mains: — Chorizo tamale(*gf, v): Still confused as to whether or not this was meat. In a good way. — Cassoulet(*v): Rich and hearty doesn’t even do this dish justice. Will satisfy any«meat and potatoes» lover. — Seitan katsu(*v): You’ll never need chicken katsu again. — Wild mushroom stuffed ravioli(*v): This was the star of the show. I’m still confused as to how it was so creamy, yet was was vegan. This is a must try. — Tree house seasonal salad(*gf, v): Great salad toppings but I wish there were more of them. Desserts: — Raw Chocolate Pecan Pie: Decadent yet light. Amazing. — Raw truffles: The richest truffles you will ever have. LOVED these. — Lemon meringue pie in a jar: This is so necessary. All in all I was so impressed with Tree House Vegetarian Restaurant and can’t wait to return. The restaurant does an excellent job catering to vegans and meat-eaters simultaneously. Major perk– I was SO full from the meal, yet somehow still felt light and energetic. Thanks for a wonderful meal, Tree House!

First time trying a vegan restaurant and this blew me away. We had the charcuterie and cheese plate to start and I especially loved the jackfruit rillette and the cheeses. Delicious with the crostini. Also tried the crab cakes, which were creamy and really indulgent. Love it. For entrée, I had the Wellington. It was lovely: the baby boy choy and potatoes were perfect. The pastry was a tad burned on the bottom, but otherwise it’s a great dish. Finished with cheesecake, and it was lovely: sweet and creamy with a lemony tang. The ‘crust’ was a bit grittier than I’d prefer, but tasted good. Highly recommend!

EXCELLENT restaurant! I love trying new vegetarian restaurants and seeing the creativity. I attended on New Year’s Day, so we had the brunch menu. It took me way too long to decide what to order because everything looked so good! I went with the slinger, and it was definitely a great choice. Looking at the other options, I can’t wait to go back and try more from the menu. They have a wide variety of concepts, from dim sum to Latin food, which is often lacking at vegetarian restaurants. Also, they offer most of their dishes vegan(replacing eggs with tofu, etc.) Highly recommend!

So there are two kinds of vegetarian foods — ones that are trying to replace meat and do everything they can with respect to taste, texture, color, etc. to replicate a type of meat, and there are those that are just vegetarian by nature and aren’t trying to pretend to be something they’re not. This restaurant serves the former type of foods. And I, my friends, am not a fan of things that try be meaty. So this was just a complete miss for me. And my partner, who actually IS a meat-eater, also did not like the food… so take what you will from that. But, if you’re someone who enjoys the former type of vegetarian food, then you might like. This place has a lot of good reviews, so I suppose some people might like that sort of thing… However, if you like the latter type of vegetarian food(unapologetically vegetarian, and damn delicious) and need a recommendation, I would suggest Small Batch — their food is amazing and your non-vegetarian friends won’t believe that they’re eating vegetarian food(that’s not even pretending to be meat)! I feel bad for plugging in a different place, but maybe someone will find it helpful? The drinks we got were fine — not that great but also not terrible. But I thought they were too expensive for the size and for not being amazing :( Oh, one thing I will agree with pretty much every other reviewer on — the beet fries were pretty damn good. But that was this place’s one redemption, in my opinion.

If you’re a vegetarian this is the restaurant in St. Louis for you. And if you’re like me and not a vegetarian, this is the best vegetarian restaurant you can take your vegetarian friends to and still enjoy the meal. There are all kinds of dishes that aren’t all vegetables that taste terrific.

Went here recently for dinner with a group of vegetarians and vegans and had a wonderful meal. I had that night’s special – garbanzo beans, rice and soy with a great sauce inside a cabbage roll – and it was really good vegetarian comfort food. For an appetizer we had bruschetta with a variety of cheeses, I had the regular vegan cheese and it was impressive. The service was good and the atmosphere was comfy inside a renovated South Grand storefront, it was really enjoyable to get to the South Grand dining scene!

Service is impeccable in a warm cozy dining room by friendly staff, and the chef checks on your table during dinner as well. The starter of fried beets with a house aioli is sweet and savory at the same time, and a perfect prelude to what awaits your senses as the courses progress. The crab cakes which are vegan of course rival any I’ve ever had that were made with Maryland blue crabs. The brussel sprouts salad with the sweetness and slight heat of the sweet chili vinaigrette will leave you wondering why anyone could dislike these delicious vegetables. The banh bao chay with the kimchi made in house was also phenomenal. The main event was the wild mushroom ravioli with vegan cheese. It was hearty, creamy, and had a little crunch to it. The best part is it’s cruelty free cuisine.

This one’s for all the meat-eating loyalists. I have a confession: I am not a vegetarian, and I am in love with Tree House. Where do we start?! For one, the cocktail menu here rivals many of St. Louis’ frequented cocktail establishments. Tree House consistently impresses me with their unique blend of herbs and florals in each hand-crafted libation. The drinks range in flavor, and their take on a few of the classics are a nice touch. For starters, get the Rhubarb Rickey. The side and main options are flavorful and diverse. And because I know what you’re thinking: Yes, the dishes are filling. On the large plates, chorizo tamales will not disappoint. Pair that with a few sides: fried beets, pan de queso, white bean dip, brussels sprouts salad… You really can’t go wrong with anything on the large or small plates menus. Service has remained consistently pleasant and friendly. Summertime dining on the patio gives you a great view of the activity on South Grand. The indoor atmosphere is warm and has an upbeat ambiance: not sleepy, just the right amount of energy. Bottom-line: We suffer from an unmistakable lack of great veggie options in St. Louis. Tree House is a true gem by way of uniqueness, originality, and value. Pause from your drowsy meat-eating tendencies and cure your addiction at Tree House.

Great kitchen making hearty, fresh and flavorful vegetarian fare. I went here for a late lunch on a Sunday. The waitstaff was friendly and prompt. As a vegetarian, I really enjoyed having a whole menu to choose from, not just a few boring vegetarian dishes. I’m not a big fake meat eater, but I’ve always wanted to try a Cuban sandwich so I got the veggie version– which was delicious. We got fried beets with aioli to share, which were my favorite part– perfectly cooked and crispy. My friend, a meat eater, got a sweet potato scramble with fried eggs that she really enjoyed. I would definitely come back to try dinner here and will certainly come back for lunch sometime!

Sat down at 12:30 and finally got our food at 1:45. It was only for the good company of my cousin was I able to stay long enough to put up with this kind of a wait. Food was disappointing. I had the BLAST(bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, can’t remember the«s») sandwich. It was slim and salty. The side salad was a small pinch of lettuce with a side of vinaigrette. Our server was kind and recognized our incredibly long wait and gave us a round of mimosas. My cousin is not much of a drinker, so she was pretty much just hungry at that point. She ordered the pancakes and was not impressed, but I can’t speak for their taste. Kitchen likely needs more staff on busy days. Additionally, all of the tables turned around us with food before ours came out. Disorganization? Preferential treatment? I don’t know. I won’t be visiting again. 2 stars: .5 for ambiance, .5 for food and .5 for a nice server and .5 for menu creativity.

Food was very good. Started with white bean dip-yum! And had a pick 2– frittata with kale, sundries tomatoes and goat cheese and the soup of the day, butternut squash. Very good. Friend has the soup as well And the brussel sprout salad. That salad was finger licking good! And the best part of it-it’s all healthy! And moderately priced! Only downside, service was a bit slow, maybe they make everything to order? So, just give yourself some extra time when you dine here.

It’s pretty tough to find good vegetarian food in the STL, but this place shines all on its own. Service: very friendly, not over-bearing Cocktails: delicious Food: pretty awesome. The charcuterie plate was a good starter to share with a few people. Hubs got the Tree House Wellington which was great — nice and«meaty» for a big appetite. I loved the Seitan Katsu, which was a bit lighter… the sauce was delicious, but just wish there was more of it! Can’t go wrong with this place.

Holy smoked tempeh — St. Louis may be known for barbecue, but Tree House gives those tangy, saucy ribs a run for their money. It’s not often that I have the pleasure to visit an entirely vegetarian restaurant, so when my health-conscious colleagues suggested Tree House during a weekend away in St. Louis I obviously leaped at the chance. We ate: –banh bao chay dumplings: slightly sweet, perfectly cooked, and served with a very mild kimchi –johnny cake: tasty, but nothing super special –seitan katsu: crispy, tender fried«chicken» with two delicious sauces, served over jasmine rice –chorizo tamale: the absolute star of my show, served with a delicate black bean mole sauce and a handful of exquisite queso fresco Oh so so so good. I have nothing but blubbering praise for the food, the service, and the atmosphere. The only reason I withheld my 5th star is that the gentlemen in our party felt the amount of food provided was slightly lacking for the price, which is a legitimate concern. So Tree House — I love you, but maybe pile just a little more on the plates next time I’m in town.

A vegan spin on known carnivorous food. The Wellington was delicious. Takes awhile to cook so you should order that with your appetizer. Their banh xeo is huge and tamale is equally delicious. Could have fooled me. Dogged the charcuterie and cheese board.

CAUTION: READALLREVIEWS — NOTJUSTTHEGOODONES&PIC’S. This review is my fault because instead of just looking at the pictures when I was He-Man hungry I should have looked at the reviews; and I would’ve seen that I should expect subpar service and for these prices service should be excellent. Then again, I always expect good service whether it is at a fast food drive-thru or a three-star Michelin restaurant. I started with a cocktail, the Seasonal Smash(Watermelon & mint based). It was very nice and refreshing and when I said it was too strong I was given extra juice, which made it perfect. Next was a starter that was on special, veagn burrata w/cucumber & mint. The cucumber could have used some seasoning besides the mint but it was okay(not enjoyable just okay). I was never given a plate; I had to eat of what the bread was served on. Before it was served to me the burrata went to the table next to me and as the waitress sat it down so confidently, the other patrons realized it wasn’t theirs. STRIKE! Next. A waiter(a bald gentleman) brought out another dish I did not order. When I told him it was not mine he instantly looked pissed off that I wouldn’t take it. After what felt like a whole minute of him starring at me angrily he said, «let me go back and ask a few questions» — no sorry, no my bad, he just left. STRIKE! Vegetarian johnnycakes with kale and black beans were the follow-up. This dish was very good and my only disapproval with this dish was the picked onions. I’ve had pickled onions before but these tasted like pure vinegar — yikes! I removed them and all was well. For dessert there was vegan cheesecake w/strawberry compote. It was good as well and beautifully plated — actually everything was plated lovely(see part of the experience). One server went table to table to get people to stop upstairs and hear a band. She told a gentleman next to me they were telling everybody — well I wasn’t included so I suppose I am nobody. There was a big loud group seated by me, even the staff was screaming to get their attention(that equals to much yelling). Too bad they don’t have a separate room here for larger parties or that they didn’t seat them upstairs. After a long day & a great TM(Transcendental Meditation) session I wanted a clean light meal in a chill spot and instead my nervous system was wrecked with garish screeches and apathetic service. STRIKE! If all of the aforementioned weren’t insult enough when it came time to pay, they had a problem with their POS and weren’t accepting Amex… Really what is this issh? So my cute tail went running across the street to a find an ATM(in the dark at night with unsavory characters about) that charged a ridiculous ATM surcharge fee to get cash(I never have cash who does these days) and then they still expected a full tip. Your tip is across the street with the Owners of the BP gas station OR, OR go talk to the lame Owner who is running a business without full charging capabilities(damn it is not like I had a bootleg money order or foreign currency. STEEEEE-RIKE!!! Look, I am not Yadi(Yadier Molina), I do not play for the Cardinals and I do not let people, places or things get three strikes; we get to two and I am done. People I know very well and people who see my check-in’s know I blow a lot of money on dinning out; if it is good I will go and never mind the expense. When you dine out you are not only paying for the meal but the ENTIRE experience. Here mine was just bad. Will I try them out again? Way, way, way later, until then(until I see six months of reviews not mentioning weak service) — bye Felicia(Felicia = what you call someone or something when the name really doesn’t matter to you anymore)!

Went here for a rainy afternoon lunch with our 2 year old. THere were only 3 other tables in the place… Service was super slow and then they forgot our sons food. Rather than apologize they said«it will be just another minute.» 15 minutes later(and no apology still) we asked to just have it boxed up b/c we had to leave… Came in with a hungry 2 year old, left with a crabby and still hungry 2 year old… Not sure if I would return. Over-priced and underwhelmed.

A bit pricey for the portions but I guess all things delicious are worth paying for. Therefore, I won’t complain. I ordered the roasted Brussels Sprout salad; it was super small I thought it should have been more of a side salad. To make it a little more hearty I requested a side of roasted sweet potatoes which were superb by the way but a whopping $ 4. I also had to try the fried beets… do NOT come here and leave without trying these babies! You will be doing yourself a major disservice. I love beets, even golden beets, beet hummus, beet juice(you get the gist) But I’ve never had them fried. The word«fried» usually turns me off. These were actually lightly(super lightly battered) probably and came with a mayo-type dipping sauce which I declined to use. I couldn’t finish them all with my salad so I packed them to-go and they were even delicious hours later at room temp. The server was super sweet, the décor was nice and the restroom was clean. This is a great addition to S. Grand’s restaurant strip. I’m anxious to go back.
