Ordered the catfish today, and it was most unfortunately spoiled. My overall experience would have been far greater if I had been served products that were fresh.

Fried fish is good, I would have enjoyed the fried oyster more if it wasn’t fried so hard.

This place is ok, but I wouldn’t say anything above that. Their fried fish is good but their oysters are way over-fried, most of the oysters turned out burnt in the middle. I just had the oyster po-boy and I wish I had asked what was on it. Usually the sandwich doesn’t have mayo and definitely not american cheese but they did here and I personally don’t like either of those on a sandwich. Although its my fault that I didn’t ask the lady at the counter or the menu could’ve mentioned what was on it since the ingredients weren’t completely conventional. Overall, it’s ok, the food alright, the prices are fair, and the location is convenient for me but I wouldn’t go out of my way to come here.

I went to Two Jacks on 6÷17÷2015. As I read the reviews some say the space wasn’t as clean as they would have liked but to me the appearance was AWESOME. Like Old Harlem! The service HORRIBLE — It was my first(ONLY) visit. The woman did not want to explain anything about the menu or food. She stared at her phone the ENTIRE time I was there. The Food …WELL I ordered chicken and fries. It was more like Fish N Chips. The fries were not fresh, I’m assuming they fry frozen from the bag. The chicken had a fish smell and taste. The grease taste was overpowering. I really wanted this place to be good. I work close by and ALWAYS want fried fish or chicken plus I think they may be Black Owned which is a HUGE plus for me.

Overall just ok. The food was ok… the fish was fried hard and the fries were frozen from the bag style. Place wasn’t as clean looking as I would like. The server was really nice. The food wasn’t bad, it just tasted really generic and dry. Overall I doubt I’ll be back. But I would give it another chance.

Come here for the fried fish and nothing but the fried fish. I tried this place for the first time with a couple friends and we ordered catfish, sole, fries, and a carafe of sangria. The fish was excellent with its crispy/gritty cornmeal coating. Both the catfish and sole came in generous portions. Tasted fresh to me. Everything else was unremarkable. The fries were clearly from a bag and the«sangria» was definitely franzia. The waitress got one of our orders wrong, but overall she was very polite. The atmosphere is nice and homey. All in all, I’ll be back, but I’ll probably avoid the fries and mixed drinks.

I asked for my food to dine in when I ordered and they told me it would take 10 – 20 minutes so I went down the street to drop of my computer for repair down the street which took 15 – 20 mins. When i got back all my food was packed up. When I asked for a plate to eat in the waitress had an attitude like it was a strange request. So I still had to dish everything on a plate from my to go boxes they’d pack. Do they really not have ovens or microwaves to simply warm up cold food? To top it off the bathrooms weren’t working apparently there was a leak. Not cool for someone 7 months pregnant like myself and a crushed bladder. Terrible customer service. I’m giving 2 stars because the Mac n cheese and greens were decent. The cat fish were strips of catfish that looked like calamari definitely not what I’m used to. Won’t be back unless I’m drunk eating late night.

Super fresh, friendly vibe, ridiculously affordable. I love the snapper and snapburger(3 good sized pieces of snapper on a large seeded hamburger bun with cheese and fixins) — always super fresh with a fried cornmeal crunch. Service is friendly and prompt. The owner is really nice and def deserving of lots of community support/patronage! The only eh thing I’ve ever had is the cupcake — can be over baked but I still happily eat as they’re only $ 1.50 and have that lovely just-like-when-I-was-a-kid quality. The cobbler and banana pudding are awesome though! PLUS: Throwback Thursday specials! $ 5 for a snapburger, fries AND beer — yesssss.

I don’t usually take the time to review on Unilocal, but this place deserves it. There is nothing like this in the city. It’s a San Francisco original, and it’s way underpriced. The seafood is incredibly fresh, which is a pretty tall accomplishment for such an affordable restaurant. The sandwiches come through true soul food style — American cheese and mayo, not Cowgirl Creamery and dijon spreads. I got the oyster po’ boy and was blown away. The owner is very nice and sweet and talked with me while I waited for my food. She seems like a genuinely awesome person who is carrying on her family’s legacy. If you need a break from the hipster-nouveau cuisine that San Franciscans love, head to Nik’s for no frills soul food. Your stomach and wallet will thank you.

The lemonade was the perfect blend of sweet and tart. Had the Snap Burger and a side of Mac and Cheese. It was exactly as advertised: soul food. Check out Throwback Thursdays when food and drink prices drop by half! Will definitely be back.

This is a real soul food joint. How do you know? Because they have buffalo fish. Buffalo fish is like catfish, but it’s a larger fish that’s served bone-in. It’s like the deep fried ribs of fish. Now, since this was my first time dining, I didn’t go for the buffalo fish — it might have been there for five days, since few people know what it is — so I went for the classic catfish. Let me tell you — less than ten bucks for fresh fried, fall-off-your-fork catfish strips, a small little salad, and fresh french fries? Come on, that’s like stealing. Plus, the beer selection covers all the bases — cheap(Bud Light), import(Red Stripe), ale(Speakeasy), and IPA(Lagunitas). The gal working there was super awesome and patient and attentive and took my fries away before I ate them because she knew I’d rather have a second beer than the rest of my fries. I’m not Catholic, but this is definitely the place to go for a Friday fish fry meal during Lent. All in all, Two Jacks is just a great, honest joint and I’ll be back here a lot. And next time I’m getting the buffalo fish and fried oysters.

I just got back from New Orleans and was still craving some southern food. Found this place on Unilocal and decided to try it. I got the catfish burger, mac & cheese and my boyfriend for their signature chicken burger. They were both satisfying. Love the Mac N Cheese– perfect amount of blasting flavor compared to other places. :) Will be back again whenever I feel like some more southern food. I got it to-go but the restaurant itself looks like a nice place to dine in too. TV and renovated since it was first opened back in the wee days.

We were hanging out at a dive bar a block or so to the west & I found this place on Unilocal.Being from the South, I was ready to see if this place were any good. I ordered the small catfish filets and Mac & Cheese. I found the catfish filets to be too small /too thin. They were ok, but just too little. I prefer more fish when I eat fish. Again, the flavor was ok, but for my taste, the filets were more like french fry size(too small). Also, I expected tartar sauce, this being a southern fried restaurant, but did not receive any. That’s no big deal because local demand for tartar sauce may be low & I didn’t specify that’s what I wanted. The Mac & Cheese was outstanding. I’ll eat here again, but I’ll be more specific in my order.

Delicious! My boyfriend used to eat at Two Jacks as a child and raved about how good it was and still is. We ordered catfish filets, chicken wings, candied yams(amazing!!) and jambalaya(the best I’ve had in quite awhile!) and had more than enough to eat as well as leftoevers for tomorrow. I love the feel of this resturaunt, we were greeted as soon as we walked inm everything was clean and overall the place looks like its run with pride. I look forward to my next visit and will recommend this place to others for sure.

Being from south Louisiana, I’m typically skeptical of southern restaurants or comfort food restaurants north of the Mason-Dixon line. But, this place is right in our neighborhood so my husband and I gave it a try. I have to say, the food is legit. I had the fried catfish burger and he had the fried sole. We also got peach cobbler and banana pudding. The peach cobbler was a little«meh» but everything else was great! I’m looking forward to trying a few other dishes.

With the exception of the side of collards which are greatly overpriced(I think a small scoop cost $ 2 – 3), you get exactly what you pay for at Two Jacks. Their burgers are cheap — my friend and I tried the original snap burger and the fried oyster burger, and you get 4 small pieces of fried seafood, each about 2 ½−3″ long and ¾″ wide, served on a standard untoasted hamburger bun with condiments, a slice of tomato, and a square of Kraft singles. After finishing my burger I was only half full and had a fishy flavor in my mouth so I returned home to eat a second dinner. That said, I did like how they battered and fried the seafood in cornmeal, as you might prepare okra. The commonly used flour-y and beer batters tend to overpower the inherent lightness of the seafood. Also, the server was friendly. I also noticed other customers ordering platters of fried chicken so maybe the non-burger menu options are the way to go…

This is like the best Southern food around. And I’ve been to the dark corners of Atlanta, Pensacola, and Mobile — and had my share of fried food, Captain’s Platters and the like(and a few Bushwackers to wash it all down.) This is the real deal. Inexpensive, quiet, unassuming and big on portions. My wife Mary had a Sole Burger. And it was cooked perfectly. It gave way to a crisp crunch on the outside and steaming tender taste on the inside. I had the Oyster Po Boy. And this one was perfect. Lots of delicious oyster taste, tender and filling. Not too rich. Just the way you want it. Great little spot tucked in Lower Haight. They have beer and wine too — but no Bushwackers. Maybe some things are better left in the South though…
