I came here for Sunday brunch, and though I enjoyed the vibe of the place, I thought the execution was mediocre. I ordered the butternut squash grilled cheese and a soy latte. I thought the sandwich was very aggressive in the sense that there was a lot going on — I wish there was more grilled cheese. It should be called just a regular butternut squash sandwich because the added name of «grilled cheese» makes it more about the cheese factor, which was disappointing in this case. The soy latte was great — good espresso to milk ratio. My friend ordered the churros to share, and they were also just average. The chocolate to dip into was good, but the churros themselves were easily broken. They should’ve had more batter inside the churro. I will give this place another chance one day, but for now — just the 2 stars.

My wife and I stumbled across this place after searching for a quick place to eat on Unilocal. She ordered the BLT and I ordered the cornflake crusted chicken sandwich. Both were absolutely amazing! We can not wait to come back and try other sandwiches. The staff was very helpful, the food arrived quickly, and even though it was lunch time, we were able to find seating easily. This is absolutely one of our facorite lunch spots.

I came here with two friends for brunch on a Sunday. It was really refreshing to go to a brunch/breakfast restaurant without seeing a bunch of people outside, waiting hours for their names to be called(which is the norm in SF). No wait here! The set-up in the restaurant has ~10 tables with one really long table in the middle. I did notice that they have a shelf of board games for anyone to play, which is a fun idea. My friends and I ordered the following: 1. Churros — worth it! These were delicious and had a chocolate dipping sauce on the side. For about $ 6, they give you a heaping bowl of churros. Enough to share with at least four people. 2. Baked eggs — pretty tasty. I was most impressed with the crispy polenta as it provided a different texture to the dish. 3. Custard Battered French Toast — the name of the dish makes your mouth water! I thought it was decent but not mind-blowing. Without the syrup, the french toast would be a little dry. 4. Cornflake-Crusted Fried Chicken Sandwich — this is probably their most popular dish! My friend thought that there was too much coleslaw in the sandwich, but otherwise pretty good! I would NOT recommend getting specialty coffee drinks or hot chocolate here. It was a chilly day so I thought it was be nice to warm up with some hot chocolate. It seems they don’t regularly make hot chocolate because the man making drinks wasn’t sure where the chocolate was stored. When he brought the drink to my table he said«there isn’t much chocolate in this» — and there wasn’t. It tasted like warm milk with a hint of chocolate(and looked like it too). My friend ordered a latte and she said it tasted really burnt.

Best churros I’ve had in forever. Better than the churros at taquerias and at fancy tapas restaurants. So light and fluffy, not greasy at all!

My new favorite brunch place! Great vibes, super chill, and delicious food. I love that it’s not as well known so there’s no wait. I ordered the smoked salmon with poached eggs over zucchini cakes, which came with a side salad of mixed greens. Everything was fresh and flavorful, and the creaminess of the runny yolk and salmon with the crispness of the zucchini cakes was spot-on. My bf got the ancho chicken stack sandwich, which has chicken, avocado, melted cheddar, bacon, lettuce, and mustard on toasted bread, which was really good as well. Looking forward to coming back and trying other items on the menu!

SF Locals you have to come here! This place is somewhat hipster, family friendly, reasonably priced, decent sized servings, and great atmosphere in petro hills. I was in the area and looking for a good brunch/breakfast place and this popped up on Unilocal with great reviews. It definitely lives up to the great reviews on Unilocal… definitely. You order at the front from a large menu of breakfast or lunch items. Portions are big and roughly around $ 10 – 15 a dish. They have pastries at the front as well. There was a fall squash turnover that looked really good… but I had to save my stomach for the main dish. I ordered the veggie Benedict that had squash/sweet potato, tomatoes, kale and poached eggs over English muffin. My boyfriend got the corn beef hash with oat toast. He said it wasn’t too salty which is always a plus. Both dishes came with a lightly dressed salad. Portions are pretty good. You will not be disappointed with the amount given, leaving really full. I can’t even breathe right now. The food was unbelievably delicious. I have bookmarked this place as my go to brunch place. No waiting which is amazing. The restaurant is located next to other restaurants so don’t get lost trying to find the place. It’s clean, you clean up after yourself and service is great. One big plus is that they do bottomless coffee and bottomless mimosas. Not many locations do that in the city, so it’s nice to find places that do. The mimosa has pulp! It’s really nice and refreshing. Coffee is $ 2 and mimosas are $ 12. I love this place already. Great atmosphere and great food! Five stars for sure.

The reviews are true. This place is such a nice place to have a breakfast to kickstart our day. You read the menu and place the order with the cashier in the front and he will drop off your food at your table when its ready. You bus your dishes after you are done. We ordered a breakfast burrito; big portion with roasted potatoes and salad on the side. LOVEIT! It is just made perfect. Churros are soooo GOOD as well, so fresh so soft inside crunchy outside with chocolate sauce to dip on the side. I could not have enough of the churros. Also tried their mimosa slush, YUM! Everything is awesome here. COMEHERE if you are in the neighborhood.

I was so sad when the 3-Sum eat’s food truck shut down. I think it was one of the best food trucks in SF with one of the best chicken sandwiches I ever had. Then I heard about Market and Rye opening, it took me a long time to finally make it to the brick and mortar location but well worth the trip across town. The Churros are great and come with a coffee chocolate dipping sauce. Watch out if you order them with something else, they are HUGE. I had my one of my favorites, the corn flake fried chicken sandwich. I have always loved that sandwich, it’s got a perfect balance of healthy/not healthy. Other options available are just as impressive. In the front counter there is a barrage of decadent pastries and other nom’s available to walk away with. If you do choose to sit and eat the place is super spacious. Now I work sort of nearby, can’t wait to become a reegular.

This is one of my go to brunch spots. I’m a big fan of most options on the menu, but I’d suggest the savory over the sweet(it’ll leave you satisfied longer). You’ll be tempted by all of the baked goods in the case, which are always a great sharing option. Also, get the churros. So delicious. I’m a fan of the atmosphere. Picnic tables outside(if the weather is nice enough) or play around on their giant chalkboard inside. They serve alcohol, but you will have to sit inside. There are a few long tables for large groups, so it is great on a weekend. And there are bottomless mimosas, which never hurts…

Food is pretty good. Environment is pretty nice. TIP — this is one of those places that asks you to tip while you’re ordering at their counter before you’ve received any service. I normally write«cash» at places like these and tip after, but this time I tipped on my bill and realized after the fact that I had basically tipped for no service. You order at the counter, you get your own silverware, napkins, water, they do bring you the food — but the entire time you’re there, you’re bombarded with signs to «remember to bus your own stuff.» So next time I’ll prorate my tip accordingly. Which should be what? The service is not much more than you get at a McDonald’s…hmmmm. ;)

We found this spot after our first choice. It is a pretty cool and laid back spot for brunch… self served place, cafeteria style, and you have to bus your own tables. Unfortunately the restrooms were out of service. It is a great place for board games, coffee, beer, snacking, or for a great meal. It is a great place to chill, and there is a small parking lot outside. Street parking can be a pain. :P

We had some friends in town and originally wanted to take them to my favorite brunch spot, Plow. After a long night and a slow morning, we were faced with a 1 – 1.5 hour wait time at Plow. We had passed by Market & Rye before and had seen pretty good reviews, so this became our back up. Location: Good location nearby other restaurants and a gym. Ambiance: Casual with outdoor seating, and even more indoor seating. Service: You order at the counter and they give you a number for your table so they can deliver your food when it’s ready. Unfortunately, when everyone else at my table of 5 received their food, they took away our number. I waited about 5 minutes and told everyone else to start eating before it got cold. A few minutes later, I got up to inquire about my missing dish and the guy at the register got confused. He thought we wanted to order more food, when in fact, we were still waiting for food already ordered! Finally, we got him to give us our number back and then another 5 minutes later, my food arrived. Food: I ordered the Chicken and Sage Hash after browsing Unilocal reviews. It was deemed their version of biscuits and gravy, and while I didn’t want anything particularly heavy, it was the most popular option and nothing else peaked my interested. The gravy was solid, the hash was decent, but the best thing on the plate probably was the biscuit. It wasn’t overly buttery, but had a nice flavor. It was soft and crumbled in your mouth nicely. My bf’s BLD sandwich was pretty good. The sauce on it was a bit overwhelming and made it super rich. The fries were decent, but I wasn’t Wow’d by anything. My friends enjoyed their food — particularly the fried chicken sandwich, which is why I have bumped this up from a 2 star rating to a 3 star rating. Would I return? I think I’ll pass.

Always wanted to try this place. Actually, tried to stop by for Sunday brunch at Plow, but that was a mistake. Lines forever. Market and Rye was nearby so we stopped in to give it a go. First of all, great parking situation. Lots of street parking and also a private lot. It’s an order at the counter type of deal, grab a number and find a seat. Great set up. Lots of seats, some outdoor seating, get your own water, bus your own table… We ordered both types of hash. The old school pork hash and the chicken and sage hash. Old school pork hash — not sure why this is old school. They mixed the«hash» part with the shredded pork and crisped it up. Did not work. It was bland and the consistency of the actually hash was not appetizing. It was much akin to tuna salad, you know the one you make by yourself at home with a can of tuna and mayo. Luckily, didn’t taste like tuna. They have big bottles of hot sauce, so definitely helped. However, the carrots and kale — best thing on the plate. Props for having a perfect poached egg with runny yolk. Chicken and sage hash — Very sage-y. Fortunately, I like sage. Supposedly, it’s the place’s version of biscuits and gravy. Wish it was more of traditional version. It was made with ground chicken, did not compliment the dish well. Would have preferred sausage. Excellent salad however. Overall, it’s 3-stars in my book. Not the worst I’ve had, but not the best. Very convenient. I’m going to say that we’re going to give it another shot. Saw many people order sandwiches, and they looked AMAZING. Perhaps, just ordered the wrong thing. Next time, sandwiches.

Came here in a pinch when the line was too long at Plow, and we were greatly surprised! No line for brunch is an amazing thing, and we waited a few minute tops at M&R to order our food then seat ourselves at a table for 6. I ordered the summer vegetable Benedict, which comes with a side salad and homemade English muffin. The muffin was probably my favorite part of the dish, it was toasted and so good! It had some kale and carrots on top, and the salad was bright and fresh. I also ordered a side of chicken sausage, which was too greasy and sweet for my taste. This is a great place to go with a group! They have quite a few morning drinks, $ 2 coffee(in SF!) and you can order separately at the cash register.

Amazing friggin’ sandwiches. My wife insists she told me about this place years ago. I am still defiant because I feel if she had, I would have tried it then. Which I didn’t. And I wish I had. I had the signature Cornflake-Crusted Fried Chicken Sandwich(Old Bay aoli, pickles, poppy seed cole slaw, brioche bun). It was phenomenal: tender chicken, crispy crust, + a creamy blend of aoli and slaw on a soft cloud of heavenly brioche. Epic. I also sampled the Dirty Dirty Reuben(griddled turkey, pastrami, bacon, caraway-braised cabbage, thousand island on rye). It was bold but fell a bit flat, didn’t come together like the CCFC sammy. Still pretty solid though. Can’t wait to get back here and try the rest of the menu. And still mad at my wife for not taking me here sooner.

Market + Rye, I don’t know what to do with you anymore. We’ve had a lengthy relationship. I’ve been coming to see you off and on for years. Sometimes you’re great. Sometimes you kinda suck. It’s not just that the food quality varies, but the actual food itself is sometimes different. I ordered the BLT one time and it was to die for. The next time? Different bread, different taste, I lived. What gives? In the last few months, you changed to include more breakfast/brunch items. Again, it’s a matter of some items being very flavourful, and other times it being a total miss. I really want to like you and keep going back, but I never know what I’m going to get. The final straw was when you changed my beloved monkey muffin. It was a gooey, cinnamon bun on steroids and I used to dream about it. But then, you changed it! It’s now some kind of overly iced, decorated monstrosity I don’t recognize anymore. Why?! You know the saying«It’s not you, it’s me»? Well this time, it’s definitely you.

Market & Rye Churros — 5⁄5 — Very soft, great taste. Excellent sauce. BLD — 5⁄5 — Pimento cheese is always delicious. Thrown on top of braised short rib, crispy onions, egg and brioche and this is just a fantastic dish. Huevos Verde — 3⁄5 — Good, but not my kind of dish. Old School Pork Hash — 4⁄5 — Tasty pork hash with standard benedict toppings(asparagus & poached egg). What made this dish amazing was the tabasco hollandaise. The tabasco was subtle, but strong enough to contribute and be noticeable. Pastries — 2⁄5 — Decent, but definitely not a contender with other places nearby. There look to be a lot of other great dishes on the menu. No line for brunch on a weekend makes this a good option. Overall, for weekend brunch without a wait, «I’m a fan.»

OHYUM. Baked Eggs — DOIT. I couldn’t be happier with all the flavors that melded perfectly together. Churros — WOW. Fluffy center, delicious espresso chocolate sauce, warm and scrumptious! Deviled Egg Sandwich — Good balance but nothing will take me away from those baked eggs now.

FOODISTASTYBUTEVERYTHINGELSEIS A MESS Order and hunt for your seat. Then maze through the people to find napkins, forks, straws, water cups, and condiments because their logistics suck and divided into two areas. The service, strange. They gave my mimosa slush in a mini cup and everybody else’s mimosa slush in a regular cup. They tell you nothing about serving yourself(condiments, utensils, water) so when my plate of food came I wondering if I was expected to eat with my hands until I asked and was directed to where to get the other stuff. Again, maze through the restaurant and people looking for things like a lost person. CHICKEN&SAGEHASH — their take on the biscuits and gravy. It was delicious, biscuits were large and fluffy and the hash had flavor with a good amount of sauce. It came with a side salad that tasted typical. I prefer if it came with fruit instead, but that is just my opinion. MIMOSASLUSH — white sangria with OJ in a slushy form. It was yummy but I likely had ½ the quantity worth my $ 7 bucks. I don’t understand why mine was in a mini glass. When I first received it I said to myself«that’s tiny» and assumed it is what it is. Then others ordered the same and was in a regular glass. I was going to say something but the line to talk to anybody was out the door and didn’t want to bother. So annoying! Will I be back? F the service, yes for the food. until the next review…

Came here a few times the last few weeks and found the food to be inconsistent. Service was also lacking and it took awhile to get out food. This morning, at 8am after they had been open for an hour, they seemed to still be setting up. I ordered the fried egg sandwich and breakfast burrito for my husband. The potatoes were undercooked. The breakfast burrito was basically stuffed with beans and potatoes. The bacon in the fried egg sandwich was so burnt it was just black. No thanks. Not sure if I’ll be back for some time. Sad to see this place go down like this.
