Came here Tuesday night around 7:30pm. Had breakfast food only. My friend and I had the Chicken Fried Steak, Chile Verde, and Chocolate Waffle. Everything was great. If you live nearby you must try their breakfast food it’s delicious. Especially great for anyone craving breakfast food in the evening. Service was great, too.

My husband and I really enjoy this place. I am a little picky, especially when it comes to the way my meats are cooked. I gave three stars just because my steak was a little too rare the last time we were there, and when I brought it up to the waitress I was surprised at her lack of concern.

Came here for the first time on a Friday Night around 6:30pm. The Food — The food is decent. No one at our table of four had anything bad to say about the food. However, no one left saying, «Oh my God that was amazing.» I would put the quality somewhere on par with Chili’s or T.G.I. Fridays. It’s someplace between fast food and a nice restaurant. The Service — The place was full and very busy. Our server did not have any time for social chit-chat, but he was certainly on top of everything. We were greeted quickly, attended to throughout the night, drinks were never empty. Everything I would expect a server to do. From a business point, he made no attempt to up-sell anything. But that does not bother me, it’s not my business. As the 3-star rating indicates, «A-OK» I would not choose to come back here. But I would not balk if I was meeting others here.

This is my favorite spot for a sunday breakfast or brunch and it does get busy in the weekend but the service, quality and quantity of food has never let me down. The portions are really huge that at times i have leftovers and have to doggie bag it home. My favorites are Chillie Verde & eggs and the Turkey avacado melt! Yum! This place is definitely made for family gatherings but there is also a bar with tv screens to catch your sunday football. it cant get better than this! =)

We came for a Sunday brunch and really enjoyed this place. My wife had the country inn skillet and it was huge! Nice, well seasoned sausage, bacon bits were on the small side, but crispy country potatoes nicely made. My corn beef hash Benedict was nicely presented, see pics, and tasted good. Hollandaise was flavorful and not overly sweet or rich like I sometimes see. Corned beef was basic standard type, I think from a can. But good none the less. Coffee was strong but no bitter and service was great! Big place, good for a party or large group. Ambience is homey and friendly even though the place is rather large. Good natural light and lots of Windows. A bit pricy, but worth it. We’ll be back.

I put going off to this place because I saw the Unilocal rating was low awhile ago, but we wanted fractured prune donuts next door and the only way I could justify the donuts was to eat something good after. I am really glad I waited though, for them to work out their newly opened kinks and the rating went up. I headed in with trepidation, but was pleasantly surprised by the experience. This place is really big! We got seated in the back in a space that was all alone for the beginning of the meal. That was ok, because we had The Child in tow with us, and we were seated in an area with lots of room for the stroller which was nice. The service we had from beginning to end was pretty good. I ordered the breakfast burrito without meat, and my husband got a steak scramble thing. I ordered the oatmeal with fruit/toast breakfast for my kid. The food came quickly enough and the portions were very generous. I was super happy with the oatmeal plate for my son — it was a great mix of fruit and he ate the wheat bread & oatmeal too. They do have a kids menu but its all pancakes, eggs and meat which isn’t very healthy for him yet. For me, if you’ve read any of my breakfast reviews here — I am relentlessly on the search for a great breakfast burrito. This one was close, the only thing that made this burrito a pain was that it comes with tomatos chopped inside which causes an extra amount of fluid making the tortilla get really soggy. I *loathe* soggy tortillas. Who wouldn’t? What redeems this burrito is that the eggs were tender and moist, and when I told the server that I needed a significant amount of extra salsa I got a small soup cups worth which pleased me immensely. And it was worth it, they have that finely diced fresh pico de gallo that was just super fabulous in my taste bud book. The other salsa that comes with the burrito was more of that hard red sauce flavor, which I didn’t like and turned out to be great with my husbands steak scramble instead. In general, I would say this is a great pit stop after you have gorged on fractured prune donuts and need to reduce that sugar high. I will definitely be back when we are craving those donuts and look forward to coming again with my son. We also went on weekday morning when it was really not busy — so I am not sure how the weekend flow of traffic is. I liked it though — definitely average diner fare but decent!(oh, and the new age music they had piping through was a hoot)

Came for breakfast and ordered egg whites, with tomato, avocado, and bacon. Took 3 tries to get my order correct! Portions are big but the food is meh; for example, the bacon pieces in the egg whites were chewy instead of crisp. Place has 2 tvs at the counter which I consider a minus, but at least the sound isn’t audible from the tables.

This place has one of my favorite things — breakfast all day! Really good omelets and hash browns with really big portions that come out quick. My BF has also had the chile verde, which looked really good! Where it’s really at is the pancakes, though! Holy crap are they good! Do not get breakfast here without getting some pancakes! I mean… this family did open one of the original pancake houses in Santa Clara in the ‘60s, so they know how to make the things. For non-breakfast… the tempura green beans is a HUGEORDER and really flavorful — served with horseradish mustard. I’ve also had a patty melt which was a decent size with good beef flavor and EXCELLENT wedge-cut fries!

I came midday and the restaurant was quite packed. When I ordered my food I was under the expectation it would take upwards of 25 min. I was pleasantly surprised when it came in a flash, under 10 min. I ordered the crab and avocado Benedict and it was extremely flavorful. The sauce that goes on top of the Benedict trickles over to my hash browns making them more delicious, no ketchup needed. I eat a lot so I wasn’t quite full from this and got a side of pancakes. They were fluffy which enabled them to soak in all the syrup with ease. Servers were all kind and the manager walked around to inquire with customers’ service and meal.

I came here at least three times. After all the visits, this place never really stood out to me. The food was just average to me. Service was always a hit-or-miss based on how busy the restaurant was and which waiter/waitress you got. Yesterday, my bf and I came here because we both wanted a hearty breakfast. The wait was 15 minutes on a Sunday afternoon around 12:30. The waitress we got was really nice but the guy who took our drinks was pretty rude! Don’t slam water down on the table sheesh. I always get the country inn skillet with no cheese. Sometimes it would either be too salty or not enough potatoes at the bottom or just right(if you’re lucky). The first time I got it was perfect but it went downhill from there. I think Mission City Grill has pretty much the same menu as Holder’s Inn at various locations like Cupertino and South San Jose. Overall, I would only come here if you just want something hearty. Don’t have too high of an expectation because you’ll come out of the restaurant and think to yourself ‘that was it?’

This was our first visit but I’m not sure if I’d ever return. Based on the reviews I was expecting a friendly environment but literally everyone seemed stressed out and boardered on having rude attitudes. I didn’t even know my waiter’s name because he didn’t bother to introduce himself or even smile. I ordered the biscuits and gravy which wasn’t traditional and pretty salty. I wouldn’t recommend it. My boyfriend ordered the crab benedict which was amazing! We never got a refill on our drinks and it took them over 15 mintues after they collected our plates to get us our check. I had high hopes but this place fell short.

Ate here for lunch the other day. Had the 49er burger. 2 thumbs up! Unlike the football team that sucks right now.

Because my husband and I live in San Jose, but super close to Santa Clara University, I am trying to be more adventurous and explore a little further outside of the typical spots we frequent on The Alameda and into downtown. I realize going to a nice diner isn’t necessarily stepping out of any type of conventional comfort zone, but I am pretty set in my ways and rarely try new places. With this in mind, I really have no reason to give Mission City Grill any fewer than 5 stars — the service was great, our waitress was super friendly, the restaurant was consistently busy for a weekend afternoon but still very clean and actually kind of mellow, my steak and avocado sandwich was DELICIOUS, and the beers my husband and our friend ordered were… more than generous for the price, to say the least! I definitely plan to be back; maybe for breakfast next time!

Went here this morning with a friend — got there a little after 10 am and for Sunday brunch, there wasn’t a huge wait(about 10 – 15 minutes). If you’re going with a big party, I’d definitely recommend getting here earlier, though. The service was fast and friendly, and I really appreciated that the waiter/cooks made accommodations for my food. Originally I asked if I could get a veggie scramble with hash browns as the base instead of eggs(I don’t eat eggs), and the waiter didn’t think I could so I ordered something else, but he brought out what I originally wanted. So pleasantly surprised! Our food came really quick, too. Highly recommend the veggie scramble with bell peppers, onions, avocado and salsa. So good! Even comes with a fruit cup.

I went to Holder’s Mission City Grill when I was in California a couple of weeks ago, and now that I’m m heading back in a few days, all I can think about is how many times I’ll be able to fit it into my schedule. I had a scramble. Usually when I have that dish, I’m generous with the ketchup. I like it that way. But the flavors of my scramble were so rich, I ditched the ketchup. And the pancakes on the side? Oh yeah, I’m so going back.

The wait here on a weekend morning could be pretty long, about 20 – 45 minutes. Passed by this place a few times but never thought about coming. The food wasn’t bad, typical breakfast spot imo. Ordered the mushroom omelet with hash brown and sourdough toast, that was really good. But, DEARLORD, THEBLOODYMARYWASAWFUL! Needs more tomato juice or something because it tasted like a bunch of meat blended in together. Service was okay, our server looked/sounded irritated but I knew she was keeping her cool. Didn’t want to bother her for more things — like switch out the Bloody Mary for something else lol

Solid breakfast! I am super snobby when it comes to breakfast these days. I would rather eat at home or splurge on some fancy restaurant brunch. Since MCG is within walking distance from my home, we decided to stop in when our favorite breakfast pastry was sold out at the shop next door. We were immediately seated and asked several times for our drink order. I didn’t mind that at all! Our server was a sweet lady who did a great job of checking on us in a timely manner. The food is awesome!!! I had a soufflé omelet with a ton of bacon and avocado. The entrée comes with hash browns AND a side of toast OR pancakes. WOAH! Now that’s a lot of food. I opted not to drink but I did notice the mimosa on the menu and the full bar in the back. I will definitely come here when I wake up early and beat the crowds. Excited to have a yummy breakfast place so close to home!

My new go to breakfast place or whenever I’m craving breakfast food at all times of the day! A major bonus of this place is that it opens all day unlike many other breakfast place which closes at 3! The ambience of this restaurant is very nice and the booths are very comfortable clean and new! We ordered chicken steak($ 14) which is steak with fried chicken batter on the outside! Came with hash browns and eggs. Also pancakes on the side. They let us have the option to upgrade it to chocolate pancakes which were delicious! Very chocolatey and rich. It was a $ 1 upgrade charge which is worth it! Next we also got the strawberry crepes which were pretty good and fresh tasting! And then buttermilk pancakes which was also very good! Tastes better than IHOP! Definitely will come here again!
