Too bad that the Restaurant is CLOSED. The food is very good if you like non-greasy chinese food(according to what I ordered) Hard time to communicate with the waitress as she knew not a word of English. We ordered by pointing out what is on the menu and by looking at the pictured menu. We ate late lunch almost closed for the lunch special. The price $$ for lunch is reasonable. The portion is huge enough for 3 – 4 people eating decently. The steamed Fish is the best, the sauce is not too salty. and we also had mobu tofu which is delicious and shredded potatoes which this is the first time ever I had this. It is tasty but does not really go with the other food that we order. For sure will be going back to taste the other stuff. The services is quite timely. Hope they will re-open soon !!! I miss the good food. :(

CLOSED. Although there were still Shufeng Garden signs and menus all over, I understand the Shufeng Garden is no longer. My previous review applies to the new restaurant that has moved in,“Happy Eating”.

20 minute wait in an empty restaurant. Asked for rice 6 times. Single waitress running around for her life. Uninspired food. If not for the company I’d have gone insane.

A month ago I would’ve given this place 5 stars. I love the seaweed spicy fish but lately the quality has gone down. The food used to be consistent. Now it’s different with each visit, and for the worse. If there’s a new chef in the kitchen get rid of him. Wait staff tends to ignore you unless you flag them down with both hands in the air. With my latest visit I ordered food to go and the waitress forgot to seal the soup shut so it spilled all over my car. Anger. I realize most chinese restaurants don’t have service but if the food can’t back up the establishment then there’s no reason to go.

This place was amazing! But unfortunately, I have to report that it is now CLOSED. The restaurant is closed as of yesterday. The place has been sold and will probably re-emerge as some other Chinese venue in the coming weeks. This is very sad news for Spicy Chinese Food lovers in the LA area. Our only choice now is to drive out the Rowland Heights location, which is way far.

This place is hands-down my favorite Chinese restaurant right now. I love the fire and numbing tingle of Sichuan cuisine, and while I’m not qualified to say what is or is not authentic, this place never fails to impress with its fresh, flavorful food and excellent service. We’ve been here several times now and many dishes stand out. The fried lamb steak in hot sauce is not, really, lamb steak. It’s more like riblets, and you have to be ok gnawing meat off bone, but the flavor is just outstanding. Spicy but beautifully balanced by all the rich flavors of onions, garlic etc… Sauteed smoked duck is delicious. Smoky, a little fatty, spicy, just terrific. Chicken with white chestnut — Basically a very rich chicken soup that also seems to include a healthy dose of pig parts, including innerds and even some things I couldn’t identify, it looked like Andrew Zimmern’s wet dream. I didn’t actually eat the bits, just slurped the broth, and it was sublime … velvety, comforting, wonderful. Dan Dan Noodles — This was my first experience with this dish, but apparently Jonathan Gold thinks they have the best. I have nothing to compare it to, but all I can say is wow. I’m hooked on these noodles, the heat, the tingle, the deep, intense flavors. It may be a bit of masochism, but I just can’t stop eating this stuff. Beef noodle soup — a classic done magnificently, best example of this dish I’ve had the pleasure of trying. Intensely flavored broth with tender beef and toothy noodles, what more do you want? You are definitely better off sticking to the specialties and Sichuan dishes. Sure, there are more generic things on the menu, and I’ve come here with several friends who have ordered things like sweet and sour fish or fried rice. Neither were much to write home about, but that’s hardly surprising. Why waste your time at such an exceptional restaurant ordering things you could find on any dull take-out menu?

Important: This restaurant is upstairs. FOOD (Grade: «C») We read such great reviews, but unfortunately the 3 of us(me, my wife and son) did not enjoy the food. I trust the other reviewers, but sometimes it is just a matter of personal tastes. Our foods: Tea Smoked Duck — The only Excellent food for here at Shufeng. Fried Lamb Steak — OK. Seafood Rice — Good. Wonton Soup — OK(my wife usually loves this dish, but not here). SERVICE (Grade: «A») A Very Very nice and friendly staff here — I would like to see this kind of service everywhere we eat. PRICE: (Grade: «A») Their pricing is very reasonable, I wish we enjoyed the food more. PARKING: A very large lot in an outdoor mall. This is a very busy asian mall.

Great service+great food is always equal to 5 stars! My girlfriend and I came in here at about 8:30pm on a Friday evening, determined to avoid the nightly dinner rush. We were immediately seated and pretty soon ordered the spicy fried lamb, the fish boiled in spicy oil and the spicy oil dumplings. The dumplings were very good as it had a very spicy taste to it with a hint of sweetness. It was incredibly flavorful. The spicy oil fish was very spicy and flavorful. You could taste the herbs they used and all the garlicky goodness. Yummy! It came in a huge bowl and was more than enough. Lastly the spicy fried lamb was one of my favorite lamb dishes of all times. It had this wonderful medley of seasoning fried to perfection. It is sort of deep fried or dry stir fried with some chili, garlic, onions and other savory goodness. Everything was good and I look forward to coming back here soon to try other dishes. The service was good and prompt; water was always filled, rice was always filled and napkins were always readily available. What a delicious ending to my Friday!

Sometimes it’s hard to believe, but there are other culinary choices in San Gabriel valley than dumpling houses, noodle shops and bowls of phở. Nestled comfortably between the subtle goodness of Cantonese and the tongue melting fire that is the Hunan speciality, lies Sichuan food. We found this with a fluke, tired of the same old same old, a quick Unilocal search brought Shufeng up and it’s glowing reviews. To be honest I generally only listen to Unilocal reviewers that I know, too often I’ve been led astray by poor opinions in the past, but here everyone was dead-on. First impression here was that it didn’t look or feel anything like a typical Chinese restaurant(although my wife pointed out that this is actually fairly common overseas). Most pleasing is the wonderful, almost baby blue wall paint. I’m a little biased as it’s my favorite color, but it was so surprising to see something other than the obvious reds, golds and whites. The room is light, airy and subtle, quite the opposite of the bold and in your face flavors that will come. And oh what flavors they are. There’s a lot to choose from, and they all sound interesting but we went for the signature choices. Lamb Steak in Hot Sauce is so much more interesting than it sounds. It’s actually fried lamb short ribs, doused in chili peppers. It’s extrememly flavorful but not so spicy that the essence of the plate disappears. It’s just about the perfect dish, big and bold and invigoratingly good. Tea Smoked Duck was just as amazing, full of big flavor, tender and as smoky as advertised. It’s a great companion to the spiciness of the other plates. Like all great Chinese food, every plate here has a distinct and different flavor from the other dishes. And finally, Hot and Spicy Crab. I’m not a fan of Chinese style crab, it’s too difficult to eat compared with Western styles. Cut into too small, and oddly shaped pieces, it’s impossible to get the meat. Also too often, the spices don’t really compliment the sweet taste of crab. It’s just as annoying to eat here as it usually is, but the spices are so good it’s worth the effort. Easily the best Chinese version of crab I’ve ever had, and I’ve had my share. The sauce is sweet spicy and it just seeps into the crab meat. Like the other plates, it’s flavorful but not distracting. Any one of these dishes would have brought a return trip, but the hat trick put Shufeng at a whole different level. I’m planning on eating my way right through the menu. There are a few caveats. There is almost no English spoken here, and my wife had difficulty communicating even in Cantonese with the staff so be prepared for trial and error if you don’t speak the language. Parking in this particular mall is always an adventure so be prepared. Lastly, it’s not the cheapest alternative especially for market price dishes such as the Crab but it’s worth every penny. So here I am caught between wanting to keep this to myself and not having to worry about long waits for a table, or pimping it out to make sure they have a long and prosperous stay at their new digs. Start spreading the word. Best Plates: Fried Lamb Steak in Hot Sauce, Tea Smoked Duck, Hot and Spicy Crab Food — A+ Ambience — A– Service — B Value — A–

My wife is from Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, where I myself have spent approximately three collective months of my life. The food in that city is so spectacular that EVERY Chinese eating experience I’ve ever had upon returning to the States has been suicidally depressing. I could live there happily for the rest of my life, just for the food. Yes, it’s that amazing. Most Americans, alas, have no idea what real Chinese food is like. And while Americanized Chinese food may be yummy, nothing holds a candle to the real thing… especially if you’re talking about authentic Sichuanese cuisine, and you happen to be a spicy food addict like myself! For probably three years, my wife mourned our inability to find real Chengdu-style food here in the States, but all that went away just as soon as we found this place. In fact, she can’t get enough of it and demands frequent trips back whenever we can manage it! And truly, the food here is amazing. Even for me, every bite is just like a return to Chengdu. The flavor of everything just leaps off your chopsticks, and thankfully, the spicy factor has not been toned down for American palates! The food here is every bit as soaked in red peppers as you would find in Sichuan, and in fact the steamed sliced beef(my favorite!) is so spicy that it even makes the ice water I drink afterwards taste like fire! The dumplings, also, are incredible and not to be missed. The staff here is also consistent on each of our visits(never a new face, it seems!), and they are extremely friendly and helpful. And the prices are completely in line with any other Chinese restaurant you’ve visited… complete with excellent lunch specials! Part of being an American and dining here, of course, is that along with the authentic Chinese style and flavor of the food come a few menu items that may surprise you(such as intestines, etc.). This only adds to the genuine authenticity of the place… even if it’s something you might not want to try, it’s definitely the kind of thing you’ll see on a visit to China! But don’t let any of it scare you… there is plenty of unbelievable food to dig into here, and it’s a culinary experience you will savor and not soon forget. A word to the wise, however… If you’re not fluent in Chinese, try to bring a friend who is! This area in San Gabriel is filled with Chinese businesses and Chinese signs, and I would never have even been aware of this place if my wife hadn’t spotted it! It’s a fairly small restaurant in the middle of the top floor of the shopping plaza right next to the 99 Ranch Market. Parking, even in the huge parking lot here, is exceedingly difficult, but trust me… it’s worth the visit every time!

Really good Chinese/Sichuan food that isn’t extra greasy. The spicy fried lamb was delicious, and the tea-smoked duck too. The fish that we had was good as well. Service is alright and it isn’t dirty inside like most chinese restaurants.

I really wanted to like this place, but it was just okay. We ordered several dishes(crab, mapo tofu, spicy dumplings, eggplant, noodles, a spicy chicken dish, and a mixed meat plate) and after a while, everything started tasting the same. Crab tasted really fresh, but nothing was as tasty or as spicy as I liked(not even the three chili pepper dishes). The wait staff was very sweet and nice, but not sure if I would come back anytime soon.

I have to agree with the other reviewers, this is the best Szechuan place in SGV. While I won’t get into the gory details, the food quality good at a good price and the service is excellent. My personal favorite dish is the Mabu tofu(?!) which I normally don’t care for but it’s great here. The seafood is all very good. You will not be disappointed!

Okay: the rating has not changed, but the location has. Finally had a chance to eat at the new location in San Gabriel. Parking was reeediculous(why do asian markets always have tiny little parking spots? I mean seriously: we live in America with big honkin’ American cars! If everyone were driving tiny little cars, it’d be different. It always makes my head shake when I see SUV with half its ass hangin’ in the spot next door and it’s NOT due to a shoddy parking job). It’s a little more upscale than the older Rowland Heights location. The chef from the original location has done a great job of preserving the awesome menu. Please support this restaurant. There are sooo many meh restaurants serving meh Chinese food, but so few good/authentic Szechuan restaurants. Maybe the best Szechuan food I’ve had since moving out to the West Coast from NY. My dad and I would drive over an hour to get to our favorite Szechuan restaurant in NY. We were psyched when we used to be able to walk to Shufeng Garden from our apartment when we lived in RH. The cold plates are really good the beef(fuji fae pien) is particularly good, as are the pig ears. the dandan mien is good, but the steamed fish in chili sauce(add tofu to it for the ultimo plate of spicy tender goodness) is the best I’ve had. They add just the right amount of sweet fermented rice to make it right. We called ahead, and the chef/owner had soft shell turtle soup: FANTASTIC. the twice cooked pork and leeks is also very good, and the smoked duck is the perfect combination of tender fatty goodness.

I first found Shufeng in Rowland Heights. They serve spicy crab so I was willing to drive all the way there for it. Thank God that they opened up this location!!! Highlights: Spicy crab, fish with tofu in hot sauce and pork belly slices in spicy garlic sauce(they use actual garlic instead of the foamy garlic like in Chong King). The crab is so good that I couldn’t order other dishes. So you will have to find out yourself. A friend of mine said most dishes she tried here has been good.

This is the best Szcechwan place in the L.A. area, hands down. I had long been searching for somewhere that made Ma-Po Tofu that actually gave me the desired numb mouth effect(why do I inflict this upon myself?) and finally found it at Shufeng Garden. Apparently this is their second location but for anyone that finds themselves in the area, I would highly recommend it. Also, I’d highly recommend the fish in oil dish… though being the rube that I am, don’t know the actual name for it.

AMAZING, authentic Szechwan food! if you’re looking for super delicious, mouth-wateringly spicy Szechwan food for an insanely affordable price, look no further than Shufeng Garden. This is the new sister restaurant to the one in Roland Heights. I love Szechwan Garlic Eggplant, and have tried it at just about every Chinese restaurant i’ve ever been to… but this one blew them all away… nothing else even compares. Their sauteed string beans are also the best i’ve had outside of my mom’s. The Ma Po Tofu is super authentic and will numb your tongue. I can’t wait to go back and try the«shuizhu» aka«water-cooked» chicken. Bland food lovers beware. every dish here is full of flavor and will knock your socks off. If you can’t handle the heat… steer clear.
