Growing up in the 626 I’ve eaten countless pineapple buns and coconut cream buns. It had been years since I’ve been by but I was nearby and I had time to kill since I was early for a dinner with friends. A hour before closing and theirs shelves weren’t completely stocked but the essentials were there. While I was grabbing the usual buns I noticed there were green tea pineapple buns. Prices are more than reasonable, I bought 7 things for only $ 8. Bread was soft and delicious, but the green tea pineapple bun didn’t have any green tea taste.

Wish this bakery was bigger, it’s always very crowded, small and packed. It’s hard to move around and it’s a mission just to walk passed people. When I came there were a lot of plates that didn’t have bread on them(prolly because they ran out & had no time to put more on the shelves). They do have a variety of stuff from cakes, pastries, savory/sweet breads, egg tarts and hot pies. You must get their Portuguese egg tarts! Only 50 cents more than the regular egg tarts and totally worth it. I ate two of them in 7 mins! They’re super crispy, crunchy & warm right when you eat them. I don’t like how they have a bunch of bread selections that have coconut in them. I think this place overdoes it on the coconut; I prolly saw like 5 coconut flavored breads and I’m like… Ugh so gross. I also don’t like how they don’t have many vegetarian savory breads. A lot of them have meat in it and it’s jus annoying since I don’t eat meat lol.

Ordered the egg tart and pineapple bun: — egg tart had a very flaky crust, but the actual custard wasn’t that flavorful for me. It was somewhat bland than what I. Use to. — pineapple bun — very soft bun and the topping was very crisp. The topping was good, but I must have a big sweet tooth because it wasn’t as sweet as I’d like it as well. These are probably healthier and lower calorie options!

Good tasting egg tarts. Price is reasonable. Wish they would make chocolate cake or something chocolate flavored.

Bought a bunch of boxed sets of pineapple shortbread for the holidays as gifts. They were great about taking my pre-order… The manager hooked it up since I had a large order. She was so sweet! Went here for the pineapple shortcake cookie. Love. Can’t tell the difference between all the flavored since I don’t read Chinese. Mom loved the walnut pineapple one the best. Also mango mousse cake… Always a classic!

From the moment I walked in I can smell the baked goods and couldn’t resist purchasing. My first time here I got the«pineapple bun» and to my surprise there was meat in it! It was good, but I wasn’t expecting meat in this bun. It turns out thy have two pineapple bun signs… the larger and less expensive on is the regular one without meat. Both were delicious! The bread is soft, fluffy and moist! Over the next few times I’ve been here, most of the items have been quite delicious. Crispy custard bun was good, but I was expecting a custard cream. Their version is a more solid custard. The homemade palmier didn’t «wow» me, but it was decent. Sponge cake(at the counter) was pretty bomb too. Today I was trying to decide where to buy a birthday cake. Since I’ve seen cakes here, and their baked goods have been really good, I decided to check it out. I got the fresh mango cake($ 33.50) and oooommmgg it was like heaven in my mouth! The cake was so fluffy and moist; the cream inside and around was lightly whipped and went well with the cake. It wasn’t too sweet at all. The mangos and strawberries were sweet and delicious. Overall, a wonderful cake! I definitely will be back! Review 5⁄100 for 2016

Delicious Asian bakery in San Gabriel! Even though there are a lot of other places in the area as competition is starting to get fierce, this place is still great in terms of selling traditional Cantonese bakery goodies. In our last trip, we scooped up a bunch of goodies for our road trip: — Chicken Pie(soooo warm, crusty, buttery and good)… comparable to a Latin empanada from Portos in Glendale… it’s just amazingly fresh and delicious. — Portuguese Tart — yum, just like how it’s done in Macao! — Regular traditional dimsum Egg tart — good too, flakey on the sides… — Barbecue Bun(Char Siu) — My husband had this and said it was good — Pineapple crunchy bread — Soo good and warm when I ate it! Love loved it and it’s only $ 1. — Honey roll(the ones that are pre-packaged in a bag already). We were on our way to a road trip so this came in handy as breakfast the next morning. — Hawaiian Pizza(a little fattening but SUPER good still. if i’m not mistaken, It has pineapples, ham/hotdog and some garlic/ketchup on it… kind of heavy and fattening but really good). I usually get their hot dog bun but they were out this time. The goodies lasted FRESH for up to three-four days!!! Surprisingly it stayed fresh even to the hotel, and we were on the road for a while! * I took one star off because they don’t speak English. So if you don’t know even just a tad-bit of Chinese, then you’re out of luck in terms of communication. However, Google translate can come in handy in situations like this.

Disrespectful ladies. I might look look like a kid but don’t treat me like one. I love their egg tarts as a kid. I would always ask my mom to get me some when I was younger. So when I went into the store, I was with my sister and we were the only customers in the store. I asked if they had pineapple buns because I only saw there was crispy pineapple buns and matcha pineapple buns out. I just wanted some regular pineapple buns and one of the lady said they had some as she looked towards the back. I said I wanted 3 and I thought she was going to grab some from the back but instead the lady just grabbed the crispy pineapple ones that were out. If crispy pineapple buns are considered regular pineapple buns I could’ve gotten them myself, just let me know instead of muttering words under your breath as you walk over to get them. She proceeded to ring me up in a rude and rushed manner but I wasn’t done picking out my items. I also told her I wanted a slice of cake and after she got that out, again she proceeded to ring me up but I had not said I was done yet. Of course I had to get some egg tarts before leaving and finally I was done. When she was ringing me up she totally forgot about my pineapple buns that were blatantly in front of her and I had to remind her afterwards when she rung me up for the wrong price.

I surprised my parents with their favorite cake for their birthday. I called in to place an order the day before. Whoever answered the phone is super nice! I’m not sure if they know how to speak English, so I just tried using what little Chinese I do know. The lady was very friendly and helpful in answering all the questions I had. From all the other Chinese businesses I have interacted with, this one by far exceeds my expectations with its customer service. I ordered the crispy napoleon cake with a layer of taro for $ 35. I saw the space they had left for writing, which was tiny, but they actually squeezed all 8 Chinese characters in. The greeting was written nicely unlike some other places. They also started taking credit cards apparently! My parents enjoyed the cake. It’s not overly sweet just the way most traditional Asians like it! They don’t normally like sweets, but they ate the entire slice! The only complaint I personally have is that the fruits they used on the top is not full ripe, so they end up tasting pretty sour for my taste. I also bought one of their signature egg tarts & one of the Kee Wah egg tarts for $ 1.40 each(yes, that’s two different types). I remember Unilocalers raving about them, but I didn’t know which was the one they were talking about because the name sounds similar to each other. I forgot which one I liked better, but it’s the crispier one. My bf tried both, and he didn’t find a difference from the other egg tarts. I think it taste like the ones I get from dim sum. Although, before I posted this, I read that you have to get there early in the morning to taste the difference. Minus 1 star because when I arrived to pick up, the ladies there weren’t that welcoming. The one who helped me out didn’t know how to speak English either, & I didn’t know how to speak Mandarin. I don’t think it’s the same lady who took my order. I’m really glad she wrote everything we talked about over the phone on a note. Otherwise, it would be a bit of a challenge. Anyways, I was already planning to return to try their other breads, but now I have more excuse to return ;)

The egg tarts here are incredible! I found this place via an article in the LA Times. I dropped by a couple weeks ago when I was in the area visiting a friend and his family. I didn’t want to come to his home empty handed so I stopped in for a box of egg tarts. I later found out that it’s his favorite. Yay! Kee Wah has other baked goods like the pineapple bun. I will be back for that and egg tarts next time I’m in the area.

This is the place to buy moon cake! My mom comes here to buy a dozen boxes every year. This is also the only brand of moon cake my siblings and I would eat. The moon cake is fresh here, compared to all the cheaper moon cakes sold in markets. But the moon cake here is not cheap, for a box of 4 with no egg york is $ 40-$ 50 per box. I think they also sell them separately, if you would like to try one first before purchasing a whole box. This place also has pastries, but I don’t think it’s the greatest. But I do like their egg tart. It’s usually hot and fresh, at least when you come in in the early afternoons. Parking is always a pain. There is the plazas parking in the back, but it’s always packed. Especially on weekends. Just go on a weekday and you should be fine.

It’s 7:27. They close at 7:30. Their door is locked, I’m knocking, and the lady working inside looks at me and doesn’t do a thing. I just drove here from 45 min away, and just called in 10 min ago to confirm their closing time and stock. Unacceptable.

Every year I get my moon cakes here because they are made fresh here. Kee Wai always comes up with new variety so you can try something new if you are adventurous. Always get the regular size white lotus seeds and mixed nuts for the elders. I personally like the ginger white lotus seed(only comes in mini — $ 4 each) and the Orange peel with red bean. Other Asian pastries are worth trying too. Have fun!

Came here yesterday afternoon to pick up some baked goods. Food: curry pork pie $ 1.90 each. I got 4 of them. It was very tasty but they are so small. I get them all the time from this location. I noticed the price is going up and the pie is getting smaller and smaller. Moon cake– very moist and fresh. For almost $ 10 each now, I am not sure it is worth it. It is like a price for a meal! They take credit card which is a plus. It is hard to find parking but we were lucky to find one. I do recommend trying out this place. The baked good is good and fresh.

Very good pastries, though their service isn’t the greatest. What I got –éclair: very good pâté choux dough, made a nice sturdy base for the cream, the cream was not a pastry cream but just whipped cream(4⁄5) –taro bun: lots of creamy taro inside with a soft lightly sweetened dough(5⁄5) –tiramisu: I appreciate they made their own sponge cake instead of just using ladyfingers and it was delicious(4⁄5) –egg tarts: I’m sort of conflicted as the Portuguese and Macau egg tarts were absolutely FANTASTIC, they had flakey crusts and warm custardy filling, but the original egg tart was strangely jello-like, I wasn’t a fan(5⁄5 for the Portuguese/Macau, 1⁄5 for the original) Overall a great place to get some sweets.

THISPLACEISAMAZING!!! I was here visiting my family and my hotel was right across the street. As I was exploring the area around me I stumbled into this little bakery and oh my goodness it’s amazing. Everything is made fresh and its’ so delicious! I definitely filled up on my egg tarts and the Portuguese tarts are my new favorites!!! They have regular, crispy, and portuguese egg tarts?!? They were all equally delicious. I got a few of their cake slices, custard buns, and coconut cream buns as well. As you can see I ate quite a few pastries in a few days that I was in LA. The prices are cheap too, everything was less than 2 bucks from I could see unless you got a whole cake or what not. The service is so so at best and I didn’t speak mandarin so it made it a bit more difficult but overall they were helpful. I do regret not getting to try the fruit tart that was in case though… sadly I know but I will have to come try it next time I am in town. If you want baked goods definitely come here. The parking is non-existent by the way so you only got the 15 minute parking on the curb so got to get in and get out unless you are walking the strip mall behind I suppose. I loved this place we even bought some to take back home to Texas so come by it’s definitely worth a try!

Kee Wah Bakery can easily get 4 or maybe 5 stars. But the service here sucks big times. I was here at 9:30am or 10am and everything was fresh. Actually the amazing strong smell of fresh sweet bread totally lured me in. The shelves were all empty, without any price tags and names. The bread just came out super fresh. There was no «Hello Good Morning» nor did those two women bothered to ask me what I was looking for. Chit Chat all day errday! What a service. And when I got 2 bread she had to put the prices in a calculator like it was 1934. Anyways, I paid around $ 2,50 or so and it was worth it.

My favorite Asian bakery in SGV! I love the smell of this bakery as you walk in. There’s always freshly baked pastries being brought out on trays. Portuguese egg tarts($ 1.50 each) are rich & creamy, slightly charred at the top, and has a crispy, flaky crust. Ever since my tastebuds discovered Portuguese egg tarts, I haven’t been able to go back to the regular egg tarts. I’m picky about pineapple buns & the ones here are by far the best I’ve had. The top is slightly sweet & crispy and crumbles softly when you bite into it. Between the pineapple buns & portuguese egg tarts my tastebuds are in pure baked goods bliss! =) The cakes(6in or 8in) are delicious & moist and come in a variety of flavors including strawberry, assorted fruits, coffee, taro, etc. I called in to place an order for a cake & it was ready for pickup by 11am the following day. Convenient 20min parking right outside the bakery.

One of the best egg tarts in Los Angeles, but you have to go in the morning when they’re FRESH and WARM! While their standard egg tarts are fantastic, the Portuguese-style tarts are even better, with an even flakier, more buttery crust and a caramelized, almost-bruleed custard. They’re VERY flavorful and delicious. Have a look around — you’ll be tempted by the various cakes, puffs, and buns. Try their delicious meat pies, too! Cash only, and you might have to park a couple of blocks away, but Kee Wah is worth it!
