Don’t let the outside mislead you! The inside of the restaurant is small, clean, and chic. I ordered the Chirashi, the sashimi were fresh and the size was decent! I think it was $ 14. I would definitely go back and get that! Also, I got the«taco plate»(very unique japamex name) which was so gooooooood! I really liked the Salsa roja with salmon! It has a little kick and tanginess to it. The picates had a strong smell of green onion which I’m not a fan, but if you are, get that!

Online order incorrectly delivered and corrected never came. Manager Jessica Perez said the correct order would be delivered. 3 min till closing time, order wasn’t here, called, manager said that they couldn’t do anything since their delivery guy was sent home at 9. Manager reflexively knew about my order and had noticed there was an error when they received my order on their end. Didn’t bother to call me and let me know my order was transmitted incorrectly. Also, didn’t bother to call me that order wouldn’t be delivered tonight after she claimed they would. Did return my money although she had the audacity to say there was fault on both sides… place needs new management

I haven’t gotten a roll here that I don’t like. It’s a very small building and they get pretty busy at lunch so I usually order ahead and pick up in their drive through. Most of their rolls incorporate a lot of spicy flavors so if you’re usually drawn to spicy rolls this is the place for you.

This place is probably the best quality sushi in the med center area. The only downside I would say is that it’s a bit pricey for the quantity. This is not a fault on their part, it’s understandable considering the price of fresh fish in this area, but be aware. They have unique fusions of Mexican influenced flavors and sushi, they pull it off well. But it’s also not for everyone and definitely not for sushi purists. Definitely worth giving it a try if youve been disappointed in the sushi selection otherwise in this area.

Wow… amazing…that is all!!! Small, but quaint. Staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations. Food was great. Price wasn’t bad. Ordered a chirashi bowl that included sashimi pieces and they were not stingy with the size of their pieces. Would definitely go back!

This is a small sushi place, but don’t be tricked by the looks. It does have quality food. We went in early around six o’clock and could easily find a table. I believe during rush hours it may not be that easy to find a table. As we walked in, we were greeted by a Japanese hello right away. We first had a miso soup, which is a complimentary item when you check in on Unilocal. So I don’t complain at all. In fact, it was much tastier than what I had in other sushi places I visited. As we had a big lunch, we decided to get something light. We ordered a few sushi«tacos». I was skeptical first about ordering anything«taco» at a Japanese sushi place. But actually they are just sushi wrapped in seaweed. We got salmon, tuna, and yellow tail tacos. All the fish was delicious. The salmon and tuna looked very fresh and tasted delicious. The yellow tail was also good, but I like the salmon and tuna better. The texture of salmon and tuna is a bit tenderer than that of yellow tail. The rice was very flavorful with the savory sauce, plus the fresh cilantro. The portion size was also quite generous. We were so full by the time we were ready to go. This place also does deliveries and take-outs. We enjoyed the quality of the food as well as the service. We’ll come to try something else if we happen to be in the area.

Absolutely obsessed with this place. I either pick up or dine in at least once a week. if I wasn’t a broke student, it’d be surely at least 4 times a week. Customer service is great. The servers are attentive and sweet. The food is amazing. Japamex is such a neat concept, now other sushi places are just boring to me. The japamex miso is a must try, and my favorite rolls are the salsa roja, marmol and c roll. The fish is extremely fresh! I also love the chirashi bowl, which have a variety of fishes and the«tacos», which are basically handrolls. Proportions are average to big, and prices are extremely reasonable! I also love that you can check in for a free miso. who doesn’t love free food for no work. I’m lucky to live within five min of this place but I’d surely drive across town to get me some Yellowfish :3

I’ve never had a favorite sushi restaurant before, but this place is definitely now my favorite sushi restaurant! Their food is so good, I would recommend it to anyone who loves sushi with a little Mexican twist.

Please do not be tricked by all the reviews on this place. This place has low quality fish, over priced, and everything is oversauced. We came here for the first time tonight and had two speciality rolls(Rampage and Samurai) plus a picante tuna and philly. Samurai was decent — philly was disgusting and the tuna was a gray pink color(tuna is supposed to be bright red) If you like low quality fish that gives you an after taste and your rolls drowned in sauce. Go for it. Don’t plan on coming back. The two stars is for having one okay roll and our waitress was efficient — no complaints on service.

The bestie and I came here on a Thursday night because kona grill happy hour was packed and we wanted sushi! We arrived an hour before closing and ordered: 1.) angry edamame — packed with heat and a spicy sauce, I kept eating more and had to gulp down water like no other! It was really different edamame than I’m used to, but I loved it! 2.) yellowish roll — delicious, fresh, spicy and savory! The fish tasted so fresh and the roll wasn’t overbearing so the taste of each ingredient really stood out. The cilantro in this roll is strong, so cilantro haters beware! *Great signature roll to represent your restaurant* Overall, loved the service, prices, and sushi! Can’t wait to be back and try the other rolls!!!

It’s pretty small restaurant but nice organization and nice staffs. We had soy beans, miso soup, cream cheese rolls, and bowls of sashimi. All of it were good except the soy bean tastes a little salty and spicy. Service was okay. Give it another try since their quality of sushi is better than a lots of sushi restaurant.

I got spoiled early. This is the best sushi I’ve found in San Antonio by a very wide margin. In a very early trip to San Antonio, I happened upon this place. My initial thought was, «Oh, the sushi in San Antonio is great! I won’t have to worry about that at all!». But it turns out, it’s just THIS place specifically. I can’t say that the sushi game in town is all that great, but here, you can still go crazy. I was tickled by the Japa-Mex concept. Sushi, but with Mexican influence and flavor. Sounds clever! And it works. Habanero-infused roe? Salsa in sushi rolls? Why not! It works. Creative, tasty and fresh rolls are all over the place here. And it’s got that kind of divey feel that I really enjoy for some reason too. I guess that’s what you get when you convert a drive-thru into a sushi place.

My order was delivered in a timely manner, and all the items were as expected! Yay! Go Team! If you like spicy, and think the Angry Edamame sound good, you might want to reevaluate how much you love the mouth burn. I love spicy food, but half way through I had to surrender and rinse off the spices. Once the spicy powder was down the drain, I could taste the great flavor they had hiding underneath the flames! I loved the Japanese-Mexican fusion vibe! Once I saw crawfish on the menu, I knew I was getting something crawfish. The Samurai Roll has fried crawfish. Sold. I highly recommend giving it a try, as well as, the Crawfish TNT appetizer. Both are delicious! I also had the Roadrunner and the Isak, which were pretty standard sushi. Overall, everything was good and they didn’t skimp on the filling, but HEB makes sushi that’s just as good. I’d recommend Yellowfish because they deliver, and they aren’t rolling up your average sushi combos.

Probably the best place for fresh sushi in San Antonio! My friend told me about this place and I need mercury to live so I had to check it out. The restaurant itself is not very large but it’s very clean. You can easily see the sushi chefs making your order. They apparently have drive-thru where you can pick up and even order online?!? The menu itself is too overwhelming imo. There’s way too many choices and no pictures, which made it hard for me to decide what to order. They offer japanese-mexican fusion. Putting pico with my tuna wasn’t really something that I wanted to try that day but I’m sure many locals love the japamex items(which include handrolls and more). I ended up ordering the chirashi bowl and my friend ordered a combo plate with nigiri and rolls. The chirashi bowl was surprisedly big, fresh, and reasonably priced! It came with your standard tuna, salmon, eel, shrimp, roe, octopus, etc. The chefs also presented it beautifully. It’s probably the item on the menu where you get the most raw fish for the price you pay.

Drove across town from ‘the Sam’ to give this place a try. Solid reviews and I’m always looking for new sushi joints. Stopped in for a quick lunch. Enjoyed the juma roll, Crawfish lava roll, and the rainbow roll. The fish is very fresh and tasty although sliced fairly thin. The rice was high quality – that’s important. Definitely liked the juma roll best. The server stopped twice; she seemed a little timid. Just a little too inattentive for me to rave about it. Had to ask for wasabi & ginger; for me, these things are customary accompaniments. Also, ordered a pot of green tea. It was served in a small water glass… makes drinking a hot beverage dicey. So $ 40 for a quick lunch, I dunno. It’s certainly a nice addition to S.A. sushi options… I’ll do it again if I happen to be in the area.

It is easy to bypass Yellowfish Sushi since it is small. But in my opinion, it is definitely one of the best places to get Sushi in San Antonio. Everything I’ve ever ordered has been incredibly fresh. I usually get the sumashi. It is a hearty soup with big chunks of salmon, tilapia, tofu and even gyoza. It is a little salty but on a cold day, there’s nothing more comforting. The sashimi is very fresh and the portions fairly generous. The hand rolls are enormous and also very good. I would recommend eating inside the restaurant because it is very well lit and clean. The wait staff are friendly as well. I have also had it delivered to my work place. I didn’t have to wait long for my food to arrive. It was packaged well and still tasted fresh(I got sashimi and the sumashi). If you are looking for good sushi in San Antonio, this little place should definitely be on your list.

Ummm hello! Where has this place been all my life? This place is the BEST sushi place I’ve been to here in San Antonio. The best you say? Yasssssss!(insert«hands in the air» emoji here) This place looks shady af from the outside, but don’t be quick to judge. The inside is very modern and clean. I ordered the chirashi because it had really good reviews and omgsh it is TODIEFOR. Okay, the only thing I didn’t like in the bowl was the caviar eggs, but that’s just because the texture for me was nasty. The bowl comes with an assortment of sashimi pieces – salmon, tuna, octopus, imitation crab, etc and a side of seaweed salad. Oh, and the entire bowl if filled with delicious sticky rice. Omggg I’m dying just thinking about how tasty everything was. I am 10000000% sure I’m coming back here in the future. The ONLY downside was that you smell like the food you eat when you leave the place, but hey that just means you’ll smell dank af
