Willie’s Grill & Icehouse

First time was here, went during after lunch hours. I had order the small order of fried pickles which was a lot and very hot and fresh was very happy with that. Then order 2lbs of crawfish with sausage which was also very good, some crawfish was a little overlooked but still tasty, the waiter was very nice kept checking on us but not too much! Didn’t order any drinks but was very pleased with the food and service.

Always love coming to willies. Eric’s first time here he wanted chicken fried steak and he got it. Everything is always hot and fresh. Fried pickles were a little on the salty side today ! Always a great deal for your money and you never leave hungry. Fries are awesome especially dipped in the yummy cream gravy. Ask for the honey mustard for your tenders– you won’t be disappointed. I love the onion rings I just wish they weren’t so fat. But that’s a minor complaint.

great time! saw so many ads for this place and i was craving crawfish so we decided to try willie’s. weird ordering system. luckily not more than a couple parties in line waiting in front of us. i went online to look at the menu and it had a free app when you sign up so we picked mushrooms and mozzarella sticks. both were delish! ordered 3 pounds of crawfish and it was soooo gooood. the spices were just right and not too spicy for my sensitive tongue. the crawfish were huge! our server was super attentive. we had a great experience. will be back.

A really really great place on the outer loop. With a varied menu, great prices and servers that are professionals!
A simple burger and fries is served quickly just like you like it. The always good gumbo, fresh and hot crayfish and awesome ribs taste homemade without the hassle.
My favorite location to meet friends.

This was not my first visit time to eat here. I think the food here is hit or miss depending on what you order or what day it is.
Today I started with fried pickles. This is the first time I would say they were really good. They had a thick crisp batter and the pickles were nice and salty. My past experience has been that they were barely breaded and limp.
For dinner I had fried catfish and crawfish combo. The batter on both was nice but the fish was so thin I could not taste it. I was like eating fried cornbread batter crust. The fried crawfish were good, which they usually are.

Could not order, line out the door, no crowd management, no advice as to how long it would be to order food. Another example of San Antonio restaurants that are too small to handle large customer patronage.

The service was slow an no one was really there, but the food was delicious I ordered buffalo chicken tenders with onion rings instead of fries with ranch dipping sauce
So the sweet tea was not sweet enough but they must know that already because the table had sugar packets. But on the upside Unilocaler friends at least the care about ME being a diabetic in the future by not putting a lot of sugar lol

I really don’t even need to add a post here. Its a place you must experience. Everyone is so friendly, waiters/​waitresses… Cooks, management, order takers and customers. Guess this is why I keep coming back over and over again. I need to get my family name on that wall of greats. :-).

Good burger, with llllloooootttttsss of fries.

Really good (I mean really good) deep fried pickles. Never had them before so I don’t have anything to compare them against, but these were great.

Food was great but service was pretty bad. Me and the four people i was with was left hanging but the manager came out and apologized and he was very nice. Would probably go back anyways though.

Service and atmosphere is great. No complaints in that area. However, I ordered a Po Boy sandwich and it was made without any type of Po Boy sauce. I told my waitress and she said it doesn’t come with any sauce and she didn’t know the sauce I was talking about. I ended up just requesting for whatever sauce that normally comes with the shrimp tacos. I really enjoyed it after the fact. But there is definitely a difference between a shrimp sub and a Po Boy.

Willies is a laid back good eating establishment. music is good atmosphere great and prices are not that bad. Burgers, beer.yes. Nice ambience, Nathan (MMXXL) was great server…

Food was excellent service was very bad. Tons of wait staff all talking while we waited and waited. Big group came in and they were helped before we were. System is flawed here order at counter and sit down where you want but some areas get helped before others. Food took to get to us because you order at counter and double checked by waitress. Order was not put in in a timely manner.

Do not like the order system. Confusion can occur. Took our ticket to the table for waitress and it was at least 10 minutes before it was picked up and our order was in.
Sand box is fun for kids but there is always a toddler throwing sand in someone’s eyes or hair while their oblivious parents are caught up in cocktail hour.
Waitress was not attentive with refills — got up to get own refills. Of course asked if anyone needed anything after we all had our refills .
Otherwise my daughter loved her fish and shrimp platter and I enjoyed my chicken fried steak.

First the good…
The play area for the kids is great and they have Shiner Prickly Pear on tap. The fried pickles and fried mushrooms are pretty good too (although they served them with gravy… Wtfrack is up with that??)
The bad… WAY over priced! The burger was only so so (preformed patties, skimpy toppings), the tea (both sweet and unsweet) was undrinkable. The food was hot which is usually a good thing… But the kid meals were served so hot it took awhile for them to eat…
Their ordering system is weird and could be streamlined quite a bit… Honestly, I wish we would have gone to Freddie’s next door… Better food that would have cost cost half as much.

Salad was boring and service was awful. Let’s face it, you don’t come for the service but it was especially bad tonight. I had to go to a nearby table to get us silverware and paper towels. We had to flag down a random waitress to get us a beer and a third waitress brought us our food. We saw our waitress twice– once to pick up our ticket and to drop off the bill.
I got the berry salad and it was basically like eating a bag of spinach. No dressing, no meat and it was very light on the strawberries/​cheese/​walnuts. They need to add more to this $ 10 salad or 86 it.

The food is delicious and there are tons of options to choose from. You even get to choose how your protein is prepared. The waiters are friendly and attentive, seating is open so choose where you want to be. There’s a patio with covered tables and a small arcade for the kids.

Great go to place for a fun a relaxing food experience. The décor is great, kind of reminds me of a theme restaurant at Disney. Great for the teams, large groups and pretty much everybody.

Do not make a mistake like we did and come to this place on a night that the Spur’s are playing. We are not sports fans and the place was ridiculously loud. San Antonians take their Spurs very seriously and they aren’t afraid to show it.
After our first choice place (Freetail Brewing Company) was packed floor to ceiling because of the game, we decided to drive next door to get us some crawfish and beer. I like the layout of this place. You walk in, order, grab a few beers and then sit down to wait for your order to be delivered to you.
The fried pickles were outstanding. They were piping hot, made fresh and most definitely did not come from a freezer. These were my favorite part of our meal. I would ask for the buttermilk ranch instead of the sauce they come with.
We started off with three pounds of crawfish with extra red potatoes and corn. Although most of the crawfish were humungous, they were overly-​seasoned to a fault. Even the corn was almost inedible because it was so incredibly spicy. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE creole seasoning but there are limits, people! My mouth was on fire for most of the meal but we kept on eating. We also ordered a basket of fried crawfish tails with french fries and they were basically flavorless. They needed seasoning. (Maybe they could borrow some from the fresh crawfish!)
Our waitress was awesome. We forgot our credit card at home and we were humiliated. I was about to offer up my husband as payment when she came up with a plan to help us. We gave her our credit card number and she verified the name and number with my husband’s driver’s license. Thank you, kind lady. You saved us a crapload of embarrassment.
Overall, I’d be back for the crawfish if they’d tone down the creole seasoning a bit and there isn’t a Spurs game on. (Seriously, trust me on this!)
