Stopped by Vbar on a Saturday night. I like the space, especially the roominess outside the bar area. Service was good, and the food was also good, although portions were not huge. I like the food options, nevertheless. Bartenders do a good job with the drinks, and the waitress was excellent. Vbar is definitely worth a visit.

Loved this spot. Couches, fire and water features, great apps, live DJ, balcony overlooking the river for smoking. Even if I don’t stay at the hotel next time I would make it to the spot for drinks

This has always been a nice little bar to hang out at in SA without the ghetto-ness. But usually you have to come with people or meet them there because it’s not a bar that is happening with peeps. First off there is Valet… hallelujah to us women with heels and big hair. I am not trying to walk bar-to– bar in the humidity and have a battle w/downtown pot holes. Thanks but no thanks… you get me. I haven’t stayed at the hotel however from the bar ambience I am thinking it’s very nice. I love bars with beautiful bathrooms and real hand towels ahhhhhh… it’s really not the crowded(thank goodness) I have been here before when there was a house DJ spinning electronic/chill house music that’s always a plus. Get with the times people! On this occasion there was no DJ but we had a large group of gossipers so we decided to plop our little fancies in one of the intimate sections with comfy couches. I also appreciate the sexy romantic dim lighting. Drink prices are reasonable, two for say 12 bucks and freakin strong… well I had a Deep Eddy Grapefruit vodka on the rocks ;-). Bars come and go but this place seems to always keep its class & trendy atmosphere on fleeekkkkkkk.

After reading reviews and articles voting it a top rated hotel bar, we had great expectations, sadly it was far from anything stated. Beautiful yes, inviting not really, it was a bit awkward actually. We wanted a bar we could come down from our room sit down have a couple of drinks and enjoy, instead we are enjoying the mini bar, and pandora over the hotel alarm radio in our room.

Great Texas beer and wine selection! The décor is modern chic and fabulous. There are multiple food options; I tried the lobster mac and cheese. It was VERY tasty, but the portion for the price wasn’t big enough in my opinion. Word on the street is, if you valet at Hotel Valencia, and you have a drink at V-Bar, your valet cost is free.

So disappointing. I visited this bar with a friend on a recent Saturday evening. It was early and we just wanted a couple of decent drinks before heading out to meet some friends at another bar. We popped in here and found it sparsely populated. Actually, it seemed like a ghost town. There was one woman sitting at the bar, a couple in a corner and us. So much for people watching. Figuring the night could still be salvaged, we ordered drinks. I opted for a French 75 and my friend ordered a Mexican martini. We were brought waters and out drinks came out shortly after. Upon first taste, we knew something wasn’t right. Orange juice in a French 75?! I get it; Hotel Valencia, Valencia oranges… but at least have the decency to list it in the menu. So rather than having a tart boozy champagne concoction, I was drinking something that would be barely passable for brunch. My friend’s drink suffered from the same surprise orange. She couldn’t even eat the olives because of overpowering amount of Minute Maid/Tropicana flavor. I supposed because it was dead, our cocktail server left early, but when it came time to pay, she was nowhere to be found. We walked up to the bar. Told the bartender what we had and closed out. NEVERAGAIN. Definitely not worth the drive, parking or price. Too bad because the décor is adorable.

We were in town visiting family and went here for drinks on a recommendation from friends. Very nice atmosphere and had some nice quiet sections if you wanted some privacy. We ordered one of the gin specialty drink and after tasting found it wasn’t made correctly. The bar tender made us two new drinks right away, they tasted great. Also very affordable for mixed drinks, great atmosphere, and I would recommend it.

Kind of more like 3.5 stars. On a Tuesday evening, it was pretty quiet, but I also appreciate that there’s a Happy Hour special so that drink wasn’t as expensive as I thought. I ordered a Blackberry Bramble and it was delicious. The blackberries were actually sweet. We talked with the bartender a bit and he showed us that the habanero tequila used in their margarita is fused there for 3 days. Any longer, and it’s too spicy. They have quite a bit of their own premade mixes which was cool. Also, I was impressed with food items at the menu, although I can’t really say how they taste or how they looked, but I’d definitely come back to check it out if I’m staying in the hotel.

Love this place! Downtown isn’t cheap anywhere but considering the quality of the drinks, décor and music the pricing here is great. I ordered a Rebecca Creek Whiskey on the rocks, was charged $ 8 and immediately thought what the hell. Then he handed my drink and all was forgiven. They actually poured what I would consider eight dollars worth of alcohol. The atmosphere is really unique, that beaded curtain was really spiffy looking. I don’t know why a curtain of beads impressed me but it did. The thing with V Bar is that it isn’t really big which is nice. There are chairs and couches and standing room and then the dance floor is separate but behind a wall so if you wanted to go have a chat on the couch it’s really not overly loud. There is also a restaurant up there called Citrus but it’s closed when the bar is open. The significance of that are the little glass oranges they keep in a display case… the have autographs from all kinds of people from Spurs players to Willie Nelson to freaking Oprah! I should mention that there is outdoor seating also but I didn’t go out there when I went because it was raining although the set up is nice and the view is of the River walk. Everything here is clean and the hotel itself provides a grand entrance if you are coming from the street level.

This is the place to go!!! We were there for my husband’s birthday party. Richard was totally awesome(friendly, helpful and professional) in getting the event book. Our waitress was phenomenal(I don’t remember her name, maybe Yesenia… sorry!) The drinks and food were top notch — absolutely delicious. Our area was clean and prepared for us when we got there(we were even early) We left before the DJ got started but we’ve been there before and always enjoyed the music. You cannot go wrong here!

We love this place. We usually head here when we need to relax after food and before we go to the club. It’s a great place to chill out and relax. DJ is always good and not so loud you can’t hear yourself think. They have the swill all the way up to super-premium liquor, wine, and bar food available. The patio outside is a good place to hang out and talk, smoke, make out, or whatever it is you people do with your night… I’m not your Dad! It’s a little on the pricey side, but in my opinion its well worth it for the ambiance.

It is with great conflicted emotion that I give this place 3 stars instead of 4 stars. It wins in spades in terms of ambience and the great outdoor balcony seating. Service can be great depending on who is behind the bar and can range from very attentive and fun to outright snotty and tiresome. The food is what really kills me in this place. The burger: really great. Everything else: just not so much. Have pretty much eaten the entire bar menu, and the burger and fish tacos are decent, but everything else promises but underdelivers. On a recent trip ordered the chicken fried lobster sliders. First of all these things are a pretty good size and beautifully presented. Alas the lobster was crazily overcooked rendering it the consistency of well bleached shoe leather with no hope of edibility in sight. But tossing the lobster and putting in fries in the bun did make for toothsome eating. Fish tacos quite well made with crisp outside and a tender, juicy fish fillet inside. Salads have been quite underwhelming and needed seasoning in addition to the dressing, shrimp have been overcooked the few times I have had them(but both times presented by an utterly charming bartender… so that nullified the chewiness…). Yes, I should not rate a bar for its food, but i am greedy and its about the package. I would definitely keep going there on the right days with good bartenders and also take visiting friends there for sure. Enjoy it for what it is!

Okay, so if you’re not from San Antonio or familiar with the«scene,» then this place might surprise you. Sure, it appears to be an upscale, classy, business-y hotel bar, and it is all those things, but this is still San Antonio. And people still don’t care if you have a tank top and chanclas on or a cocktail dress — you’ll fit in either way. I can think of very few places where any kind of dress code is enforced, and that’s probably one of my favorite characteristics of this city. I’ve been under a few circumstances. Once, sweaty and in costume for a pub run. Another time, to catch up with friends before dinner, and a number of other times both casual and somewhat fancy. The cocktails aren’t craft, and the wine list isn’t expertly curated, but the happy hour is a pleasant surprise. 20% off everything from 5pm-7pm! Which, for me, means a $ 36 bottle of Pedernales Texas Tempranillo that’s been my favorite one as I’ve fallen in love with Tempranillos. There are cozy couches, coffee tables, or comfy bar stools — take your pick and enjoy a gem of a boutique hotel bar!

This place is pretty lame. First of all, It is a bar in a hotel. If my friend didn’t see it on Unilocal,we probably would have never come here. I came with a friend on a Saturday night. We were all dressed up and looking nice because we thought it was supposed to be «upscale». There was even a sign says«dress code strictly enforced». But most people we saw there worn jeans and flip flops, seriously? And there was a 70 years old man drinking at the bar too! The bar itself looks OK but I would not recommend this place for mingling with the young professional crowd. Actually is there such thing as «young professional crowd» in San Antonio? Night life and the dress-to-impress vibe in this town is somewhat non existence. I remember seeing so many sharp looking young men in suits and young ladies in cocktail dresses during a night out in Boston. Here, I could just wear my PJs. Underdressed in SA? Quite impossible. Never need to be on my A game!

Really nice bar. Lot of seating an very freindly bartenders. Drink prices are compariable to waht you would pay at a similar bar. Very romantic with lots of candle lighting and pleant of couches and lounge furniture to mingle. Décor is minimalistic but still gives you a classier feel. There seems to be no real dress code obviously, but the two night we stood that the Hotel Valencia, we noticed that ladies were dressed to impress. All in all, if we ever come back to San Antonio, we’d come back.

Stayed in the Hotel Valencia for one night with my boyfriend during a short trip in December. The bar was quite the gem. The indoor seating was nice, bartenders were friendly, bar food menu looked yummy(but we had just gotten back from dinner), and drink selection was good. We took our drinks outside, to sit on the terrace overlooking the Riverwalk — what a great ambiance for chatting/relaxing over drinks!

Monday Martini Happy Hour $ 2.00 martinis from 5 to 7PM. It’s always a treat to hang out with Richard on a Monday. Plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor. Very clean and a full selection of tasty beverages.

Vbar is located within Hotel Valencia near the riverwalk. To me it felt upscale without being stuffy… I don’t think there’s a dress code, but it is the ambiance that maintains a mature crowd. The company we were with have long been patrons of the Vbar, and as such the bartender fixed up a charcuterie plate just for us that is not offered on the menu but comprises a little of everything that they offer at the bar. It had fantastic(I am guessing Greek?) bright green olives, salami, thick sliced ham, bleu cheese, smoked gouda, strawberries, grapes, brie, pickled peppers(some variety other than the peperocini), spinach chorizo, and my new favorite cheese, Azores flores. Besides the beautiful charcuterie platter, there was also a wonderful semi-spicy«chip mix» that was like a mix between a savory chex mix and ghardettos. The drinks here will put you under the table if you are not careful. Perhaps its the quality of the alcohol they were using in the mixed drinks, but I usually do not like my drinks that strong and like the flavor/sweetness to overpower the alcohol… somehow he made these drinks taste divine. I am usually a two drinks and done kind of gal, which means I should have stopped at one vodka tonic, but I also asked the bar tender to fix me a sweet drink… to this day I have no idea what he served me, but it was based on vodka and had hints of red bull, pineapple, and cherry in it. Delicious. This is a great bar for catching up with friends. I felt the music was just at the right level for us to keep a conversation going.

Mmmm. V Bar smells so friggin’ good. Actually, it’s the aromatic waterfall in the lobby of Hotel Valencia that smells like yummy, girly shampoo, but it’s the perfect start to the night. The Mayor of San Antone — also known as Unilocal CM Krys T — was kind enough to bring our group here after an earlier dinner and drinks … for some more drinks. Most of us were dressed down in jeans, but lucky for us it was a Tuesday, so there wasn’t a crazy line or dress code. The drink menu has a fun collection of cocktails and flirty martinis, as well as some small bar bites. The décor is modern(kinda reminds me of some of The W’s more boutique hotels). Second to Havana Hotel, I like the lounge scene here.
