There’s a time and place for this. This is some old-school, practically diner-style stuff. It smells like fried in here(and you will, too, for the rest of the day). Think Taco Bell if the food were actually legit Tex-Mex. You pay for everything(including chips and salsa). You order and pick up at the counter. Try something you don’t see everywhere else(like the bean cup). Get a carne guisada taco… then if you like the tender peppery goodness, consider getting a pint to go.

There are moments of truth where a business has an opportunity and drops the ball. This morning, based on other reviews, I decided to give them a try. I’m trying to stay low carb(the whole New Years resolution thing) and told the lady at the counter as much when I ordered a breakfast plate. I requested that the potatoes and tortillas be left off of my order. I added a «cup» of guacamole… which ended up being slightly larger than a cup for ketchup. As I ordered I did not request this cup as a substitute for leaving off the potatoes and tortillas. I gave my card and sat down at a table. It was in this moment that I realized I forgot to add bacon. I did not have cash… so as I attempted to make the purchase I was informed that the 76 cent charge was not enough for them to be willing to process the transaction. So I kept quiet… received my food and ate. The service was not friendly… no eye contact… no thank you. Okay so this is not a 5 star Michelin restaurant… but it cost nothing to care a bit more. It occurs to me that they could have done one of the following things: 1. Offered the bacon as a substitute. 2. Processed my card with the knowledge I just made the prior purchase. 3. Back off the previous charge and recharge the total with bacon. 4. At least apologize for not being able to accommodate. Food was decent… but there are plenty of choices near by with people that actually care… and welcome the customer. Probably means nothing… but they’ve lost a repeat customer… and all this ill will directed their way… just because of their lack of concern or consideration when they had the opportunity.

The BEST puffy tacos in San Antonio!!! I have been on a best puffy taco quest in San Antonio while I am here for a couple of months and this place is my #1 place. I will be going back for sure! Can’t wait to take my hubby here when he comes to town. Don’t let the outside look of this place fool you… it is hiding a real gem of a treasure.

This is yet another place that I was close to for four years but never became a patron. Wait times are minimal. Parking is not great but not so bad it would deter me from coming. I tried the puffy tacos, the beans, the rice, some of the caldo, and the chips. Chips are thick cut and served with some decently spicy salsa. The puffy tacos, despite being deep fried, weren’t insanely greasy. The fresh tortillas were definitely a plus. The beans are by far some of the best side of beans I’ve tried. The caldo I would say is akin to a chicken noodle soup with some avocado. What caught my eye though was the cups they have. Some filled with cheese, some with avocado, and some with beans. Looks interesting for another taco time in the same taco place.

I came in and ordered the puffy taco plate with a single tamale(cause why not?). The puffy tacos were greasy and not as great as I expected from the Unilocal reviews. My puffy taco fell apart before I even bit in! And there was excess grease in the outside that I just absorbed with the extra napkin. Taste wise, the food was decent, but nothing that can’t be found at any other taqueria. This establishment averages 4-star but the food was not 4-star worthy in my opinion. A far stretch from 3-star based on what i ordered. Maybe try something else on the menu and leave the puffy tacos for fiesta? Side note… they take orders for tamales during the holiday season. I had a single tamale and it was pretty good. Lacking in hot spice, but«good enough» and soft/moist! Id come back and place an order for tamales.

Went there today for lunch with my sister. Well normally they are good, but not so much today. They had no queso, tables were all dirty, took them forever to bring ice and enchilada sauce wasn’t hot. Plus it was very hot in there. I told them to make it cooler, but they didn’t. Just an off day for them I suppose.

can’t believe I hadn’t posted I review for teka molino!!! I’ve been coming here a few years now. found the spot through a friend — I was describing some small puffy tacos I often had as a child on the south side of town. turns out, teka molino is owned by relations to my little patio mexican café! same small puffy tacos — now called nickel tacos. not often u get to REALLY get the SAME taste of childhood! little rolls of garlic-y meat in soft puffy corn tortillas with lettuce and tomato — YUM! bean rolls are awesome too — just don’t think about the calories! can’t get past these 2 items or I’d recommend something else! lol! mexican treats are good also, and very inexpensive — 4 chocolate iced cookies for $ 1 fast and friendly service.

Greasy and bland. I had high hopes but was very disappointed. First off, when we walked in we thought we were in a retirement home dining hall. There are a lot of choices on the menu and the hubs had puffy tacos and I had the teka plate. The tacos, guac cup, puffy tacos, bean roll and fried cheese had NO flavor. The food is very oily and even after pouring both red and green salsa there was little flavor. After eating it(very hungry and never like food going to waste), my hands were covered in oil. Pricey for what you get Only good thing: The diet coke and big red are really good.

Not impressed. I was excited to try out this place, since it’s been open in San Antonio for decades! But, alas, I was disappointed. I got the breakfast special, which was Chilequiles and a coffee for under $ 6. I was quite hungry when I arrived, and was super annoyed at how long it took them to prepare my meal. They were hardly busy. I went on a Saturday morning, and it took literally a half hour to get my breakfast plate prepared. I could tell, since the date and time of the order is printed on your receipt. I enjoyed the fact that the chilequiles were served with the proper cheese, white cheese, along with a red sauce, which was average at best. The coffee was disgusting. They serve it incredibly way too hot, but I guess that’s just so they scorch your mouth so you can’t taste how awful it is. The soda machine tasted like it hadn’t been cleaned in quite some time. When you go for the water, it tasted moldy and gross. Yuck. The place was not especially clean. It doesn’t seem like anyone comes and wipes down the tables between diners. The tortillas might have been hand made, but I didn’t really care. After waiting so dang long for my food, I just wanted to get out of there. Never again.

Oh Teka Molino The San Antonio Classic, My great aunt who is in her 70’s remembers taking her children here, and she says the menu hasn’t changed much. Tex-Mex classics such as a plate with tamales and enchiladas, Puffy Tacos, you get the idea. This place is loved by folks both young and old, and when people come from out of town, Teka Molino is on the list of places we must stop at. I know it’s on my regular lunch rotation, I love the food, I love the old school feel to the place. I hope that this place stays open long enough so that my kids can take their kids. Love ya Teka Molino! Cheers!

This place was recommended by a good friend of mine. I ordered the chicken puffy taco, carne guisada taco and guacamole cup. It was all delicious. I live in Albuquerque and miss tex mex food. It is moderately priced, with most items under $ 10.00. They do take credit cards: Discover, Visa and MasterCard. The only complaint is that it gets hot inside. But, this isn’t home.

We went in for breakfast and the food was average. The salsa they make here is awesome, nice touch of salt. You order at the counter and they call your number when the food is ready. Our tacos weren’t fresh and the tortilla’s were paper thin and the edges were cold(huge pet peeve). I still have an after taste from the picadillo taco, wasn’t able to finish. I chose to get the picadillo so on my next visit I could try one of their famous $ 2.75 puffy tacos and much to my disappointment the meat was way too greasy, grease everywhere, it completely soaked through the thin tortilla. I surely won’t be ordering anything with that filling on my next trip. Our food was meh.
