Roaring fork is consistently good although never great. The consistency isn’t surprising considering it’s a chain and the menu rarely changes. The cuisine is a blend of Americana and Mexican flavors and dishes. I had the Mixed Market Greens salad like many visits before. The leaves are fresh and the dressing good but as usual the walnuts, cheese, and cranberries were to sparse for the amount of lettuce. The green chili pork stew is an appetizer that is zesty and delicious. It comes in a small kettle which makes it kind of fun. I wish they had an entrée version, and I sometimes order it with my meal. The mac&cheese is also worth mentioning. It’s cooked with hatch chilies which gives it a green tint and a wonderful spicy flavor. This is my favorite mac&cheese from a restaurant, and the only place I’ll order it. Their cocktails are decent. Like their food prices the wine prices are too high with sometimes more than 3X markup.

Well, if you are familiar with military life, it’s OCT and for us at Ft Sam Houston, it’s the Army Physical Fitness Test time… So, I’m trying to trim down to meet my height and weight standards… So I can’t really say much about the food. I got the tortilla soup, which was nice and warm… just a little heat. It wasn’t inundated with tons of tortillas, but had nice crispy thin slivers to top it. Had good amount of chicken in it too. I ended up getting the salad, which was… salad. I wish they had a little bit more of the battered fried chicken on top, it was more like one strip of chicken cut up into five morsel size pieces, but… I’m on a diet, so I shouldn’t be piggy. The décor was pretty cool, dimly lit, big huge bar area. More of a trendy modern flair to it. The little cheesy mini muffins were pretty good, but a little too small for my taste. The wait staff was excellent, our waitress really took care of us. We stayed for four hours chatting, and she never rushed us, and even sent a runner to bring us some glasses of water even when we had already paid and were just chatting. We got there at 6pm and left at 10pm, and our waitress made sure to walk us out and hold the door open for us. They did give a military discount… which for us, was awesome. Our friend is deploying in a month, so we were there to give him a send off… and you know, the waitress brought the dessert menu and let him pick out a dessert, on the house. The bathrooms were pretty nice as well, i love when the doors to the stalls go all the way to the ground and go up really high, it tends to block out a lot of the, ahem… noise. I hate public restrooms, so I judge a lot by the restroom. The sinks were modern, deep and square. I didnt really care for the lavender soap that was in the plastic pump, but nothing too big to complain about. Overall, I will have to go back to eat the real food, but it was good ambiance, and I love when they don’t rush you. Just for that, Yay! I’m a fan :)

The quick version: Don’t just come here, RUNHERE. I just recently went to the Roaring Fork with my g/f and she compared the place to Chili’s. I was appalled she would speak such devilry. In her defense her dish was very mediocre compared to my GREENCHILIENCHILADABURGERWITHFRIEDEGG. It’s literally one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten in my 26 years on this world. Why you ask? Because it started off as a novelty pick because I’m always willing to try something different and interesting but everything changed after my first bite. The beef had a great tender texture, the enchilada was jam packed full of flavor, the cheese engulfed the entire enchilada which was nice and the fried egg helped give you just enough moisture to keep you from reaching for your drink mid meal. I also got the green chili mac n cheese which I really enjoyed. It was a healthy helping for one person and it had some tiered spiciness to it so the more you ate, the spicier it got. I would only ask that they make the sauce its in less watery and more… well, saucy. The service here was fantastic. We had Steven who took great care of us, made great suggestions and gave his honest opinion on what he thought was good and what was not, instead of trying to up-sell me the menu. Ask for him. We also tried the margaritas and unless you just want something strong, I’d pass on them completely. Both of ours(the traditional and raspberry one) lacked any sense of balance and were just very«meh» overall. I know this place will be in me and my g/f’s rotation because its close to her place and I’m counting the days until I can get another one of their delectable dishes…
