Wow! Let me say that this place is a hidden gem! By first glance of this place and where it’s located, some people might just drive straight past it as it’s not in the best neighborhood and people are sitting on benches outside the door waiting to be seated. The Unilocal reviews are what got me to try this place out when I visited San Antonio for the weekend and I am so glad I did! The food is AMAZING! We tried a few different orders including their killer pancakes but the eggs benny are to die for! The waiting time to be seated kind of sucks because so many people come here for breakfast but it is worth it! The service is good too and it has a great vibe. The owner is actually the Chef so that’s probably why this place is so great, I definitely think they should upgrade to a bigger location because the café is a little too small for how much business he gets. Prices are very reasonable as well, this is a must if you are ever in San Antonio. You won’t be disappointed!

Tried Valentine’s Day, but wait was too long and we gave up. Went back today and had a 40 minute wait, but it was well worth it. For starters, the place is clean! We have stopped going to a couple of popular spots because of dried food debris on booths, walls and menus, but Pancake Joe’s is spotless. Service was great as well. We tried Eggs Plus(over easy) with sausage, hash browns and toast; a Denver frittata, and 1 pancake. All were well prepared and flavorful, only the lack of a plate warmer and nondescript coffee were minor disappointments. This is a great family-owned and operated business that is building a loyal following inside the Loop, revitalizing both the neighborhood, and our appetites.

What happened? The food was lousy. Took forever to have our food brought out even though we were one of a few tables occupied. My husband got his breakfast first and it looked like it had been sitting for a while… cheese congealed and sauce dried. My meal came out with steak instead of chicken as I ordered. Also I have to wonder why cold, dry toast is considered a better side than some warm flour tortillas. The staff was still very friendly but the restaurant doesn’t look as clean anymore. Mildew smell back by the restrooms. Guess we won’t be going back.

This is a great Mom & Pop restaurant. The breakfast menu offers so much you will have a hard time choosing. Pancakes are their specialty, they are a very good size so be hungry! The price it affordable and you will want to return again to try something new. They also offer a great selection for lunch too.

Waited an hour to get seated. Saw the place had good reviews, so we thought we’d stick it out. It was so worth it! Staff was friendly and quick. The food was phenomenal. I had the Spinach eggs benedict and my boyfriend had Joes Favorite breakfast. We wiped our plates clean. Got our food, ate, and left in 30 minutes. We’ll be back!

Yummy! If you’re in the mood for pancakes this is the place for you. I took my mom out for breakfast. When we arrived it was a packed house. We had to wait for a few moments but then we were seated near the back. We had a friendly waitress that took our drink orders, and left us a menu. My mother right away wanted the banana pancakes. I ended up ordering some eggs, bacon and a pancake. Everything on our plates was so good. The waitress was every attentive to our coffee needs. We had plenty of time to look at the menu, eat our food, and drink our drinks that we never felt the press to leave even though it was close to closing time. I know next time I’m trying something different that’s for sure there is so much to choose from you just want it all. So if you’re in the area or not in the area this is a must have, must try at least once.

French toast was cooked perfectly. Toasted outside warm creamy inside. Pineapple upside down pancakes also did not disappoint. Service was also spot on. Great place for family breakfast.

My sister and I were in San Antonio for the weekend staying at a renovated home near the historic district(found via Air BNB). I searched Unilocal for a good place to have breakfast on Sunday morning, the first search result was Pancake Joe’s. We decided to go there and after reading some reviews I already made up my mind what I would be ordering, I would not need to see the menu. I had the spinach eggs Benedict and the upside down pineapple pancakes. They were so fresh and delicious! My gosh, and what a fair price! My sister had an omelette which was so incredible and fluffy. How they stuffed all that in the perfectly folded omelette, no idea. We got there about 9:15 and had about a 30 minute wait. Well worth it! We asked for cups of coffee while we wait, no problem! I will be back to eat here anytime I’m in S.A. Next time would like to try the lunch menu.

The reviews were great and that is what enticed us to venture here for Sunday Brunch. Wait was an hour snd then it was another 20 to 30 minutes for the good once we ordered. So don’t come here if you are in a hurry… good food takes time. Menu is pretty diverse and of course they have a wide selection of pancake types including banana, chocolate chip, wheat, berry, bacon and more. Husband ordered biscuit and gravy with eggs. I ordered banana pancakes and hashbrowns. You can order food to go. They do serve sandwiches and other non-breakfast items during certain hours as well. People were constantly showing up while we were there so obviously they thought wait was worth it.

Well I came back again, and I guess it is feast or famine. This time the cups smelled like mildew. I could not finish my coffee. French toast and bacon were under cooked. I did not go into the bathroom last time, but this time they were very dirty. I do not know if I will be going a third time.

This little place is a true gem! We wanted something different so I took to Unilocal!Typed in best breakfast and this was 1st on the list! We decided to give it s try. The place was packed when we got here, but we only waited maybe 10 minutes. Waitress was super nice and patient with us. Staff is so awesome. The food was sssssssoooooo delicious! I’m definitely coming back! Found a diamond in the rough. I got the spinach eggs Benedict with extra sauce, hubby got the mushroom and spinach omelette with 1 pancake, daughter got the pecan waffle with bacon and son got the kid pancake with strawberries and blueberries! I’m so stuffed right now!

Love that this place is in an area that needed this kind of restaurant… Pancakes were good and breakfast sandwich good too. Hash browns were the best part of breakfast. Did not blow me away but way better than IHOP. Love that it is family owned and staff super friendly. Waited about 30 mins but it was super busy and Saturday. Looking at others food I would try French toast next time

Why am I just finding out about this place, I’ve lived in this area my whole life! Great food, great service, very quick. The wait was about 30 but we sat even faster. We tried the cowboy breakfast, breakfast sandwich with fruit, & the fluffy banana with pecan pancakes. Let me clarify, the ranch potatoes are not(ranch style) they are ranchero, pretty good & greasy. I will def be coming back!

Meh. That’s right, I said it SA, MEH! The food was typical greasy but still tasty. Friend and I made our own pancake flight(which btw should totally be on the menu) — an upside down pineapple pancake and a blueberry one. They weren’t nearly as fluffy as I was hoping they’d be and all of the fixins were basically lumped in the middle. I ordered biscuits and gravy, and I don’t know if it’s just me, but gravy’s gotten an lardy taste! As everyone has mentioned, the service definitely needs some improvement. For being in the Westside, however, it’s a good hole in the wall. Lots of room for positive improvement!

WOW I can’t believe I haven’t done a review on Pancake Joe’s! This place is family owned so you get great customer service. The wait time for a table is super long any day of the week you come but it’s worth it! Eggs Benedict are so tasty and I just absolutely love those ranchero potatoes! Parking is only a few spaces by the establishment so I park across the street since parking lot is limited out front. The food is hot and fresh and I just love the prices here! When someone ask me about some where they should try for breakfast I always recommend Pancake Joe’s. It has great food and great service.

I’m so confused why this place has such high reviews… like very comfused! I just went today with a group of 6 people. As expected — we had to wait a long time for a table since the place only has 3 tables for large parties. There were several people waiting so I figured this place must be very good. Even though we waited for literally an hour to get seated, I was still very excited and anxious to try this breakfast spot. I ordered the chicken fritatta, upside down pineapple pancake and my bf ordered a veggie omelet with sausage. Our friends ordered a short stack of pancakes, eggs, sausage patties and another type of frittata. None of us were impressed with the food. My fritatta was very oily and burnt on the sides. I clearly told the waitress that I wanted very little cheese on it and they disregarded my request because I received my plate literally covered in swiss cheese. I didn’t want to bother with sending my plate back since we had already been waiting for an hour and I was starving so I opted to remove the cheese myself. The pineapple pancake was good but too sweet for my liking. I could make better breakfast in my kitchen. The goal of a weekend breakfast is to find spots that will tickle your taste buds with quality food in the company of friends. This place doesn’t provide that. I would never come back to this place again nor recommend it. The wait is NOT worth it. Even if there wasn’t a wait, I still wouldn’t eat at Pancake Joe’s.

So disappointed. I really love family owned businesses and I wanted to love this place. It was my last day in SA after helping my sister move. We were all starving from the manual labor, but it was Sunday morning and everything was packed. Quick Unilocal search revealed this«hidden gem». The wait wasn’t too bad, but the first sign was all the young adolescents working– either they are all family and forced to work, or this place just wants cheap labor. It definitely shows in the service. We waited 15 minutes after being seated to be greeted, another 10 to get coffee and water while our waiter was checking his phone. Another 15 or so to order– again our waiter was just hanging around, no sense of urgency, even with the place busy. After we finally got our food and refills, both from other people that had to be flagged down– two of the plates were wrong. From the looks of the other reviews I’m hoping we caught them on a off day. I’ll try them again if I’m in the area– but I’m walking out if it’s full of underage servers.

Pancake Joe’s is everything a family owned restaurant should be. The staff is friendly and the food is great! It was an hour wait when my daughter and I got there, but we did arrive later and it just goes to show how good this place is. When we were seated we had our drink order taken and given enough time to decide what to eat as it was our first time there. The menu had a good deal of choices and all sounding good as we were very hungry. We both decided to have the Pancakes & Egg with bacon and a side of has browns. The pancakes were very good and the eggs were cooked just the way we ordered. My hash browns were slightly on the greasy side, but still enjoyable. My daughter’s was done perfectly. I was given green and red salsa for my eggs, which was nice, having both choices at the table. I stuck with the green. The bacon had a great crisp without being«too» crisp. I think we all know how unappetizing that can be. The coffee I had was not too strong, but flavorful. .. and drank three cups. I will definitely be back to try other breakfast items and more lunch oriented choices, as it all sounded so good! Looking forward to future visits. Pancake Joe’s could definitely become a regular place for me.

I almost don’t want to write a review for this place. The food is fantastic and the prices are great. I have received fantastic service as well. Expect a wait no matter what day of the week it is. They can be hard to see as the sign is on the window and can be blocked by cars. Don’t be surprised if you need to park across the street as parking is limited in front of the restaurant. All of these are just minor inconveniences compared to the amazing breakfast food you’ll discover at Pancake Joe’s. The eggs benedict is so amazing. The hollandaise sauce is perfection. The hash browns are cooked perfectly, crispy outside and soft and hot inside. I love the Cowboy Breakfast, 3 eggs and 3 biscuits with sausage gravy. If the cook does not give you enough gravy(as happened to me) your server will happily bring you more. Can one ever have too much gravy? On the menu there are some amazing omelets as well. If you are not in the mood for«breakfast: food they have sandwiches as well. Get your grub on at Pancake Joe’s. Your stomach, taste buds and wallet will all be very happy indeed.
