It was a bit of a wait to get my food but it was worth it. The potato pancakes with berry-apple sauce were great for breakfast. I will certainly come back for lunch or dinner in the near future for some more German cuisine.

This place had delicious food but was however understaffed. Our bill was quite cheap for the breakfast we had — $ 21 for 3 people and endless coffee refills. They probably need to expand their wait staff and kitchen to make up for their speed but overall for their 2nd week in business I think 4⁄5 is fair.

We visited last Sunday. This is a small place, brand new, the chef is from Germany and his son was our server. After our meal, the chef came out to speak with us briefly which was really a nice gesture. I had the small rouladen with mashed potatoes and gravy. My husband had the small schnitzel with fried potatoes. Our meals each came with a German salad of lettuce, cucumber and kidney beans as well as bread baked in-house. The salad was fresh and the dressing was flavorful and not too heavy. The bread was maybe a little underdone/dense/heavy but it was warm and fresh. The rouladen was very tasty and authentic(and yes, I have eaten rouladen in Germany so I feel OK saying this), just a touch dry but still very good. The mashed potatoes and gravy were savory and had a lovely creamy texture. My husband’s schnitzel had a great crust on it and the mushroom gravy was excellent with some large slices of mushroom in it. His potatoes were cooked in bacon drippings — yummy. We could also hear the chef pounding out the schitzel in the kitchen so we could tell the prep was being done right there, very fresh. The portion sizes were generous, the food was high quality for the price, the service was attentive and friendly and the place seemed clean although the décor is a little sparse/awkward. The menu isn’t very large right now because the place is new but I’d like to see what things get rotated in and out. The server and chef both asked for our feedback and they seem really willing to get a good business going and cater to the tastes of their patrons. I am giving 4 stars for the service and food quality, and because I know this is a new business so I don’t want to be hard on a place that’s only been open a month or two. Ambience is a little lacking but on par with any other place in the same neighborhood. I’d go back again and recommend others give it a chance.

Didn’t even make it through the door since the hours were not what is posted on Unilocal Saw the exterior and looked through windows and was not impressed. Looks very dirty and unkept. Not sure how they can run a business looking this sloppy inside and out. I’m German and this u would not see in Germany. Definitely needs work and cleaning

I love good German food, and with its deep-rooted German heritage, you’d think there would be a bumper crop of fantastic German restaurants in this part of Texas, but you’d be mistaken. Scarce as hens’ teeth. Opa’s Edelweiss(OE) is a new place trying to achieve this elite status, but it fell short on my initial visit. The missus and I read some good write ups of OE and decided to give it a try Saturday at lunch. We arrived at 11:30, and they were in the weeds with every table full when we took our seats. The gentleman who waited on us said they were already out of schnitzels. I ordered sauerbraten, and the missus chose rouladen. They each came with a salad starter(which never arrived, though I was served a complimentary dark German beer for which I never asked) and authentically home-style pan-fried potatoes(Bratkartoffeln). The food was as delicious as my German mother’s cooking, but OE has other problems. Aside from pricey, they were out of schnitzels, the first two items on the menu. The waiter/cook/owner was short-handed and easily flustered. He argued with two customers who tried to tell him his«Open» sign was off, and violated fire code by locking the front door to keep out more diners. These glitches are excusable in a new restaurant opened as a first business venture by a rookie, but just barely(since I’m the forgiving type). Because their food is exactly what you find across Bavaria, I’ll be back again. I hope they get those troublesome blemishes worked out. An official inspection would be unfortunate and much less forgiving.

Drove by the other day and saw the hours and decided to have dinner there the following weekend. Family went early(6:30PM last night — Saturday night) and they were closed. CLOSEDAT6:30PM on a Saturday night?!? We had a party of 10 meeting for my birthday(I didn’t realize there would be so many) and ended up going to a Mexican restaurant a few blocks away. If they’re going to keep bankers’ hours, I’ll never be able to try it because I work bankers’ hours. :-(Very sad.

My husband and I love German food and found this little restaurant on Unilocal. My husband said the Jaeger Schnitzel was delicious and the mushroom gravy was a perfect compliment to the tender pork cutlet. I had the bratwurst on a brotchen(homemade German roll) with German mustard served with German potatoes and loved every bite. For dessert we had a serving of four German chocolate cake balls with icing that were impeccable! I urge you to give this brand new neighborhood restaurant a try if you savor Good German food.

I can’t say enough about this restaurant. This is a new arrival in an unassuming strip center in the Jefferson-Monticello Park area. The service is great. And the food is so flavorful and comforting. All food is made fresh, in house, daily. Even the bread. There is no beer or alcohol due to the proximity to some churches, but you can BYOB. And the convenience store right next door has an EXCELLENT selection of brews. The portions are generous, but I polished my plate clean! It was that good! I highly recommend stopping by. They have daily specials and they are very affordable. We will definitely return. Often.

The service was great and the food was excellent! I had the Jaeger Schnitzel which is a breaded, pan-fried pork cutlet smothered in a brown mushroom gravy… absolutely outstanding! The place is pretty small right now, but they’re planning on some expansion including an outdoor seating area. It’s currently BYOB due to some zoning restrictions, but there’s an excellent selection of beer(including German beers) at the convenience store on the corner. I will definitely be returning.
