Husband and his friend got food poisoning from this place. Good luck if you eat here…

I maybe biased because it is right down the street from my work and I come here a couple times every week, but I love this place for morning tacos. They are reasonably priced and the food is GOOD. The staff is always welcoming and friendly. Carne Guisada with Cheese taco for breakfast, deliscious!

I’ve read the two rave reviews and I really hesitate to give a negative, as I am strongly in favor of supporting small businesses, but feel I must mention what happened to us today. I asked my brother, who has said good things about Mi Durango, to pick up breakfast tacos for a Sunday morning treat. My husband, who was raised on the West side where barbacoa rules, has trouble finding good barbacoa on the Northeast side, so I thought we would try this. I got a potato and egg and it was fine — nothing to go crazy over, but not bad at all. My husband said the barbacoa had a strong taste of baking soda in it, like they had used baking soda in the recipe and it didn’t meld enough or they used too much. Within 5 – 6 minutes of finishing his two tacos he was running to the bathroom to throw up. 15 minutes after that my stomach starts gurgling and I’m sick, too. I’ll spare the details but it was at the opposite end from where my husband was sick. My brother ate the barbacoa tacos as well and while he said he loved them he got a bit of diarrhea after eating them also. Don’t know if we got a bad batch of food or what, but not willing to try again at this time. I didn’t go into the restaurant, have never been in there since years ago when it was a different restaurant with different owners, and have no grudge against them. If I ever get brave enough to try lunch or dinner there and find them to be satisfactory or better, I will write a new review praising them. Until then, cannot possibly recommend them for breakfast tacos.

Mi Durango is a nice little O’Conner gem that serves up authentic Mexican fare. We went for breakfast and everything was pleasing. The coffee was excellent and the waitresses were always happy to fill my cup. The tortillas and salsa are homemade and amazing! My breakfast tacos were on point, I just didn’t care for the lettuce/tomato in my picadillo. If there are other weirdos like me out there, they mixed my bacon with me egg… I LOVETHIS! My sister polished off the huevos rancheros plate and raved about their beans. The prices are reasonable and I kept seeing giant bowls of caldo being taken out to several tables(I’ll def have to try). The service is great here and they work really hard to make sure you have a great experience. If you’re in a hurry, they have a nice little drive-thru window on the side of the restaurant. I will definitely return to try lunch items.
