Just realized I had rated the wrong place. This one I loved before the fire and plan on returning after renovations being done. I’m sorry about posting poor review which was meant for another place. Deleted poor review, and thanks to person who caught my mistake.

Amazing beef fajita nachos for a reasonable price. Queso is great as well! Very generous portions!

My favorite is the Mocahaute plate which is cooked in a stone tamal(used to grind corn) It is awesome with beef and chicken fajitas meat with cheese, be careful not to burn your self when they set it on your table. It keeps the dish boiling hot for the entire meal. The beans and rice are served on a separate plate. When you are through with your meal the Tamal will still burn. They do not have beer, but you can bring your own. They have excellent ice tea and Mexican Street jugos

Probably the best place for Tex-Mexican around the UTSA area. You get free chips and queso and a person can easily eat for under $ 7. I usually get the torta de asada and its pretty good.

This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants to eat at. Family run business and super nice. Machacado is my favorite to eat. Great food for the price.

Lots of food for a good price! The breakfast was amazing. Had migas and bacon and egg tacos. And the tacos are pretty dang big! Food was really good and the service was good around 12 on a Saturday.

Pretty decent food for this side of town. Im from the RGV though so I havent found any place that really compares to home food. My husband and I takeout from there a few times a month. We LOVE the beef fajita quesadilla, rice, charro & refried beans as well as their thick homemade corn tortillas. We dined in once & didnt really like the atmosphere. All around pretty tasty & cheap food! :)

I live nearby and make it to Jalisco Grill about twice a week. Solid breakfast tacos but the real winners are: huevos rancheros and their Friday lunch special– their molcajete bowl is out of this world awesome! The waitresses are very friendly and service is quick.

Since raising their breakfast taco prices and a fall in the speed of drive thru, I have to change my review to three stars.

Tacos came out cold. Had to ask them to heat it up. Took a bit to get them back but they had started over and grilled them. Food was ok.

The refried beans are out of this world delicious. However, we’ve received the wrong order a couple times. This place is inconsistent.

Yes, it’s a bit of a hole in the wall. Nothing fancy. But I love the food, and you can’t beat the prices. On Fridays, they have several fajita-related specials, including the very impressive molcajete fajita stew served bubbling in a proper lava-rock bowl, that include a drink for well under $ 10. And I could survive for weeks on their homemade corn tortillas alone. Service can be a tad inconsistent, depending upon which server you get and how busy they are. Some of the staff struggle with English, but – hey, authenticity! This is San Antonio, after all. Not the place for your 50th wedding anniversary dinner, but for a tasty, cheap meal on a Friday, after a long week of work, it’s wonderful. Oh! And the complimentary chips and salsa come with queso! No extra charge. Beat that!

I just moved from NYC to San Antonio, and this was the first restaurant I tried. It was delicious and affordable, and the service was fast and very friendly-everyone is smiling. As other reviews have stated, it IS a busy and loud place at peak hours.

I really am not picky with tex-mex nor service. Give me a basket of warm chips and a greasy plate of food and I’m pretty happy. My husband and I went here on a whim to have a nice evening together, but my experience at El Jalisco was unfortunately so frustrating that I will never go back. Just a few reasons: The wait staff was clearly short handed, because as they walk thru, people have to shout to get attention. Chips were never refilled, I sat with an empty drink for about 30 minutes, and my food took at least 30 minutes to come out after placing the order. The wait staff was polite but distant. My bowl of molcajete was tasty even though it was BOILING when it came out and was entirely too hot to eat after 10 minutes. My tongue is pretty burnt, but what can ya do. I will say the rice was bland and soggy. If you enjoy having to seek attention, ask for things multiple times and have wait staff assume you’re joking, and sit around wasting an hour for mediocre food, this is the perfect place for you!

The food is great but the service stinks. 25 minutes for 5 breakfast tacos seems a little much.

Geeeeze, this place used to be a secret but, that’s not the case ESPECIALLY for lunch time. They have specials, I know M-F and maybe on Saturday(I don’t remember), that include your meal, a tea, and if you dine in chips/salsa/cheese dip and it comes out to $ 5.95 with tax. AWESOME. In on way do they skimp you on portions either. Always a super friendly staff. I wish I still lived on that side of town to go more often. I’m a big fan of cheap mexican food and this is the spot for it.

Love this place! The food is always fresh and hot. The corn tortillas are home made as are the flour tortillas. I have to admit the self seating can sometimes lead to confusion. The specials are awesome. I highly recommend the Jalisco omelet. This is my favorite Mexican food in the area. The place is spotless too.

Run of the mill cheap ass Mexican food. This is a «pictures of the food on the menu» type joint with daily sub $ 10 lunch specials that’ll fill you up and leave you feeling horrible about your life decisions. Oh and free queso.

El Jalisco Grill is my favorite sketchy Mexican restaurant in town so far. I had been craving some authentic Mexican food for a while, so I went here on a lunch date with my bby Jacob one fateful Saturday. That day was also the first day that I drove by myself, so I was kinda shaky, but that’s another story. Anyway, here’s how the lunch went down. So we walked in. And nothing happened. We were not seated nor noticed for about 3 minutes. The awkwardness suffocated the two of us, and we decided we had to do something lest we choke on our lameness. So I nervously asked a waitress who was cleaning what we were supposed to do, and she matter-of-factly told us to just sit down and wait to be served. Wow. They’re so chill here. The chips and queso were alright, albeit the chips were thick. Like, pita-chip thick. But the queso was pretty good, and the salsa was warm, which was a pleasant surprise. It was pretty spicy too. But the entrees were what far exceeded my expectations. I ordered the steak ranchero, Jacob ordered a carne guisada and cheese enchilada plate, and both were so good. Jacob scarfed down his plate in like, 5 minutes. That’s how good it was. My steak was really juicy and well seasoned, and its edges had that crispy texture from grilling it. The rice and beans were seasoned nicely too. Tortillas are provided, of course, and they are warm, soft, and kinda buttery. But we couldn’t finish all of ours because the portions were so big. If anything, the most lackluster component on our plates was the guacamole. It was really slippery and not thick enough; some liquid must’ve been added. Everything was really cheap too! We didn’t have to pay tips and we only spent 15 dollars together. The sad part is that I forgot to order a Mexican soda, which I really enjoy. Because dat stuff is delish. All in all, this restaurant satisfied me both physically and spiritually. The taste reminded me of eating at my Mexican friends’ houses in Mcallen as a young lad.

I love this place so much, I just had to write an update! Six of us went there for lunch the other day and we probably tried 3 or 4 different plates. No one was disappointed. I switched from the usual Enchiladas Verde to the Torta Al Pastor and was not disappointed. It came on a fresh French roll and included sour cream, lettuce, and guac. Could have been just a *TAD* heavier on the Al Pastor, but for three dollars and some change I can’t complain.
