So I 31 and I have been going to different places to eat for a long time and I have never in my life found a place with such amazing staff, and service, and amazing food. But I went in one day to this place and I will never go to another Mexican place besides them. Breakfast tacos are amazing. Enchiladas are amazing and the cheese flameado is to die for especially if u take it home and eat it the next day but do be adviced this cheese flameado u have to heat up the right way or it’s not good but if u do heat it up the right way it’s like u are back at the restaurant. So if u are looking for the best service best food and amazing environment and also clean bathrooms then go here I promise you will not be disappointed. Katie

Where is the 6th star for this place! We come here every chance we get! It is a great price and the food is amazing! The staff is intelligent and well mannered! Even with my food allergy they handle my complicated orders effortlessly! We always feel like part of the family when we come to this local Mexican restaurant. Definitely my favorite restaurant in town!

Do not go here. I decided to try this place out for the first time, big mistake! I ordered to-go only to get home and find there were no chips with my queso. Not only that, they put the queso in a to-go box so the cheese is just a solid, flat block at the bottom of the box. Even after 2 minutes in the microwave the cheese didn’t melt at all! The food is not good at all. I will not be returning to this place and I advise others not to eat here at all! Too many other great options in the area. Maybe that’s why the place was completely empty when I went. Hope it stays that way.

I stopped by this place on a Monday afternoon around 530pm. They ad Happy Hour going on so I was shocked to see only one other person in that restaurant. Me and my sister sit down are greeted quickly and served some chips and salsa. Chips are ok, they taste like the ones you could just buy at HEB, salsa was a little water to even dip the chips in. We place our order for margaritas, queso, two tacos and a taco bowl. The queso was a good portion for ordering the small. I mixed it with the salsa so it could have some more flavor to it since it was pretty bland. The Margaritas were too sour for me but my sister seemed to enjoy hers. Our food arrives and I was impressed with their Carne Asada. It was delicious!!! That was about the only thing that was good there. The Carne Guisada was not that great, I had more sauce and celery than I did meat. The tortillas were not cooked all the way and for the rices they have there I was honestly expecting more. I would give this place another try since it has good reviews on here. I’m thinking I just stopped by on a bad day. I will follow up on my next visit here!

Arrived for lunch, while on business in TX, after reading the reviews. Restaurant is in the corner of a small shopping center, part of it under construction(the shopping center, not the restaurant). I walked in to find the place empty. 1 person at the small bar, no other customers. Greeted by Allan, gave me a seat of my choosing. Pretty sizable menu, decided on the tampico steak. 2 enchiladas in a brown cheese sauce, stripped steak, tortillas, beans, and salad(I subbed fries — no additional charge). Food came out quickly. Steak, though more on the well side, was juicy and nicely peppered. Enchiladas were simple, but tasty. Complimentary rice pudding was a little liquidy for my preference, but flavorful and light. Allan was very attentive, polite, and a pleasure to have serve me. Great job, Checo’s, thanks for the Delicious food and excellent service!

I make it a point to visit Checo’s once a week for lunch. The food is always hot and flavorful, the service is consistently spot on, and I always leave with a full belly and a smile. Guests are offered complimentary rice pudding after the meal. The owner even makes a point to give me extra cinnamon sugar since she learned I like it that way! I want to keep this lovely place all to myself, but that’s really not fair! I highly recommend this secret gem!

An absolutely must try! I was craving for down delicious Tex-Mex cuisine and I was thoroughly impressed with my experience at Checos! Upon entering the establishment I was a bit shocked to see that it was just me. For a Thursday night craving I guess no one else had similar feelings. Regardless, the server was very kind, and attentive. I ordered the Pollo Al Cilantro and substituted the beans for more rice. This was definitely not a mistake! The gravy for the chicken was outstanding, and complimented the well grilled tender chicken. The rice on the other gave off another flavor of its own and really gave life to the dish in my opinion. If you are looking for a break from the usual Tex Mex locations, give Checos a shot! They are extremely friendly and the food is outstanding! As always, hope to see you there!

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We came in Friday night about 6pm and it was quiet. The inside is very quaint and relaxing. I tried a basic enchilada entrée and the food tasted good and the prices were reasonable. The waitress was very nice and helpful. She refilled our glasses quickly and was attentive in answering our questions about the menu. There was another group in the restaurant, but very quiet overall. The tortillas are extremely delicious. They taste homemade and fresh! I think we ended up asking for more too. hehe! I will definitely come back and eat it again.

Ok — everyone has their opinion and here is mine. We’ve been coming here since they opened. We love Rosanna and her whole team. We have breakfast(best tacos ever) and love the peach mango tea. The service is excellent and if there is a problem then they promptly take care of it. I’ve read some of the negative reviews and can’t believe they are talking about the same place. ALL of our experiences have been super. You won’t be disappointed. They cater to groups small and large with such a nice selection of food and drink.

Stay away! I gave this place a second shot after my first horrible experience. The first time i went i had Carne Quesada tacos and a tea. The tacos each had like two small pieces of meat and the gravy was so thick it was like jelly! Just gross, like it had been in the metal pan for days. I only went back because the tortilla was really good and thought maybe i just ordered the wrong thing. So i ordered a pork chop plate. The pork chop came out the size of a silver dollar and as hard and over cooked that it was harder than jerky. A kid could cook it better. The tea had grains in it and it was gross. The waitress even argued with me that there was no way it was possible because they use bags! Lol… The potatoes were hard and the waitress never came by so i could ask for ketchup. I will be surprised if this place makes it another month or two. To top it off the tortillas were not the same.

Omg… The whitest Mexican food I’ve had in a while. Not authentic. Instant/canned beans. Enchiladas smothered in brown sauce. Store bought tortillas. And small tea glasses. At the end of the meal they brought«authentic rice pudding». It was bland. I mean … My white German husband said it was bland. I would not recommend this place. We tried it for the lunch special. Will not be coming back.

Needed to feel like my mom was takin care of me, rainy day feeling blue wife feeling sick. Found this place just like mama. Caldo was super good. Very clean fresh establishment with friendly staff. The other reviewers are probably use to the junk you get at a can food service restaurant, this place rocks just like mama.

Alright so, this review is solely for to-go tacos, and it’s a good one. I’ve been reading about Checo’s for months(via Unilocal), so we finally gave it a shot. The tacos were solid, as was the service. We didn’t realize a) how late it was(8:50 p.m.), and b) the time that Checo’s closed(9:00 p.m.), so we placed our order, they gladly took it and reminded us of their closing time. We felt so bad! Anyways, we left the place to go pick up the tacos, and holy moly, the street was flooded! I gave them a call right away, letting them we’d be 10 minutes late and asked if that would be OK, they said that would be just fine. Once we got there, they were obviously closed, and literally waited outside for us to arrive. That, my friends, is awesome service, though we felt super, duper terrible. The tacos themselves were delicious — a bit oily, but with tons of spice and flavor. Their green salsa is also better than the red. Yes, I’ll be returning for more tacos, and probably go to the restaurant for a meal next time. The service was too awesome, and they deserve the stars they currently have!

I RAHEEELY hate to do this to a small joint, but… If you’re going to out shine a backed, large established joint, you better bring it. I don’t care if there are only TWO of us in the place for lunch, it better be the best lunch ever, and not the one you’re training someone to make for dinner. Julia’s plate — the one I have been WANTING to try: cabbage, squash, zucchini, tomatoes and your choice of meat(chicken/beef) all done up fajita style on a hot skillet, with a side of beans, rice and salad. Sounds delish and healthy, right? It was a sizzling(burned my leg because it was«still jumping» according to the waitress) greasy MESS. The rice, on the other hand, had obvs been waiting on my greasy, hot mess. I don’t think«Julia» was there to make it today… We ordered regular«queso» because the one little thing of, again, cold salsa didn’t last 3 seconds between my salsa loving bestie and I. Out came, what we loving refer to as «orange goo.» You know? This comes in a can at Cosco and Sam’s and is one step below what they serve on nachos at the movies. UG. By this time, I was already rewriting my review, and not making eye contact with the waitress. I think cabbage came out my nose when she asked if I wanted a «to go box.» No. Nor do I want to stay and eat it, either… I probably won’t be back. TIP: Maybe try dinner?

What a lovely place! It’s deceptively tucked into a corner, but you wouldn’t know that once you step inside. The whole place has an air of Mexico with the décor and music working together for an atmosphere that takes me back home. Everything is hand made, fresh, by the talented and friendly family that owns and operates this new restaurant. They have been open less than a year, and will be serving liquor in the near future. Despite my momentary disappointment at missing out on what I’m sure is the perfect margarita, my experience with Checo’s was about as positive as they come. I had their fajitas, my go-to for a ravenous appetite, and was thrilled by their hand made tortillas and excitingly flavored chicken. My husband enjoyed their cheese enchiladas, excited by their unique, dynamic flavors. Those who are faint of palette, beware, their fresh salsa has a palpable punch! After having a few fellow patrons recommend/rave about their house-recipe flan, we just had to try it. It. Was. DELICIOUS. A perfect ending to a delicious meal. Definitely make a point of stopping in at Checo’s if you’re ever in San Antonio.

Some of the best Mexican food around! Fantastic service with a very friendly staff. Deserves to have more people in it. Update: Good prices but they charged a dollar extra for each additional tortilla which at ever other restaurant comes complimentary with the flameado… it came with 2 tortillas for the entire appetizer which is way too few, especially when you are sharing
