As soon as we walked in the waitress set us at a dirty table and placed a mat over the mess then she was rude then these«world famous rellenos» are PRE-MADE and only beef, not cheese. The salsa was awful and I would NIT recommend. However I went next door to Two Bros BBQ and it was amazing.

Ordered plate #9: enchiladas with beans, rice and some salad. Presentation was cool, but the plate was crazy hot so I knew it had been sitting. Beans and rice seemed sorta leftover and had little flavor. Tortillas were more like pita bread. Enchilada was ok. Margarita was ok. Salsa was super hot! The patio was quaint with all kinds or trees. Could smell Two Brothers next door and kinda wanted to be over there. It’s a shame: the place is a neato location but the food is just not that good.

Was in town last week, and we decided to give it a try. Heard really good things! It is a quaint little hidden gem of a restaurant and had really good down home Mexican food. It’s sincere in the product and would come back in my next visit to San Antonio. We ordered the enchiladas and the flautas. The homemade tortilla chips were great, fresh and crunchy. Just like I like them… The homemade guacamole on my chicken flautas were the perfect touch and made them taste even better. Great side of spicy beans and rice. Filling and delicious. Highly recommend!

Gross. Probably the worst Mexican food I’ve had, and I’ve eaten at many, many Mexican restaurants. The enchilada was nasty, it can with a couple tortilla chips covered in cheez wiz. The chicken taco just tasted off and was a pile of mush. Went there with a large group and didn’t hear anyone say they liked it with the exception of my vegan son who had just a dish of guac — that was good. The food tastes as bad as the restaurant looks. We all had to stand up and start to leave in order to get our checks as well and it was not busy at the time.

Food was ok, not as flavorful as expected for TexMex. Spouse had a chile releno which had a too sweet tomato sauce. I had a Mexican plate that could have been from warmed frozen dinners. Chips were stale, salsa was good. We paid $ 29 for two lunches and one drink, so too much for so-so food quality. Service was good. Not planning to return, can’t recommend.

Just found this place for lunch. Food was truly fabulous. This will be my go to when in San Antonio.

As part of my goal to try places I have never been, we hit this place on Friday evening. Not an absurd amount of food and very reasonably priced. I don’t think there was anything over $ 11. My husband got chile relleno. Many enchilada combos to choose from. I got white cheese enchiladas. Quality is just ok. Quaint little place.

Prices are actually rather expensive for this type of hole in the wall, lunch specials offer a single choice for the day and the plates are small. They have no individual tacos on their menu so if you want a light lunch with a cup of coffee this is not the place to go. More importantly the food is just plainly bad, and it takes a lot for me to say that! The carne guisada used the cheapest of meat chunks with a lot of skins and fat and the sauce was just a can of crushed tomatoes with no flavoring. It was bright red and you could still see the tomato seeds floating around… I wonder if they cooked it at all. The crispy tacos were harder than they should have been and very toasted, as for the beans and rice I left them mostly untouched as they just weren’t worth eating. Service is basic, not unfriendly but I guess not friendly either. All in all one of the worst places I’ve been to in the area…

Only one server and waited 20 min for the bill; food was terrible. Used to eat here often but not like it used to be. If you are a fan of El Patio frozen Mexican dinners, this might be your place. Needs a cook and more help. Will not return.

Love love love El Bosque! Incredible food at a reasonable price. We have been coming here for decades. Real Mexican food. Atmosphere is unassuming.

Started off semi impressed with the food until my wife grabbed for a chip. The chip in the chip bowl appeared to have been taken out of a avocado bowl and placed back into the chips. At this point we were ½ way through our meal and wondering what else is being reused! Will never go back.

The tortillas were store bought. Service was a joke. Will not be going back. Do not recommend this place to anyone.

We just came for lunch. The menu was pretty open and the prices were cheap. But when the food came; you basically get what you pay for. My tamales were gross! But my beef taco was tasty. Service was pretty bad but there was only one waitress attending to the whole restaurant.

Decent food at very reasonable prices. Old school service that is attentive and a total throwback. Patio could be fun in warm weather. Interesting place, I will visit again!

Holy margarita batman! This place is amazing. We’ve driven by numerous times but decided to ride our bikes here today and enjoy the ritas. Delicious chips, salsa and queso… and the margaritas!!! Wow! Excellent service! The fajitas were, by far, the best I’ve had in town… and we have gone to almost every mexican joint. You gotta try this place!

We discovered this little gem a few Saturday’s ago and what a find! The service was top notch and the Fajitas and steak were just so very screaming good! The Herradua Reposado Tequila shots were the icing on the cake! El Bosque is celebrating 40 years in business on Monday April 1st from 6:30 to 10pm. DJ Music will be featured along with food and drink specials so come on down and help them celebrate. They and the Spurs have something in common: Been around for 40 years and they’re here to stay! Long live Tex-Mex!

Very good food for not very much money. The chicken in the chicken taco was excellent. Had the Lady’s Special No 1. Perfect amount of food. A++

We had seen this spot several times before on our way over to 2 Bros next door for BBQ. Last time we did so we said we’d eat here on this Friday, and I’m glad that we did. El Bosque serves classic style San Antonio Tex Mex, and they’vebeen doing it well since 1973. Eating their food took me back to my childhood. Though I don’t remember eating there when I’d come stay with my grandparents, their food is reminiscent of that time, I had the Super special #1,which was a nice sampling of the high notes. Everything was very good, but what I liked best was the chicken soft taco. It was shredded chicken in a corn tortilla, with chili con carne atop it dressed with a little lettuce and tomato. That’s old school! For their enchiladas they use the red corn tortillas so indicative of San Antonio Tex Mex. The salsa that they brought with chips at the beginng was actually pretty hot, usually that’s not the case with many a Mexican place. This place is proudly family-owned and operated, and service is great and cordial. Our waiter knew exactly how to cater to a family with a small child too. She even brought our son’s food out first. The prices are also very good. almost too good we all ate for well under $ 30. Also given that this place is a mile from my house you know that I’ll be back!

Not impressed. It tastes as bad as it looks and the service was not good. I am all about trying the hole in the wall but I won’t go back.

When my husband took me to El Bosque claiming that it was one of his favorites, I was absolutely disgusted with the outside. It seemed like a run down hole-in-the-wall place that probably had no patrons whatsoever. I was then even more astonished to see a packed dining area and happy people. Of course, I ordered the burrito dinner(just something I do) and got our plates within a good span of time. There is something about the experience of chips and salsa before a meal that must not be rushed. Muy importante! After eating a fulfilling and rich meal, we received the tab and was comfortably at ease with spending under $ 20 for a meal. We didn’t order any drinks, so I am not at liberty to discuss their alcohol distribution. I can tell you that every time I pass it on West Avenue, it becomes more and more attractive to me. The lit up patio and the desolate surroundings(for about an 1⁄8th of a mile) makes it feel like it is out in the boon docks.
