Chachos Mexican Restraunt

Had nothing but super verbal reviews so I tried it out — but I am not pleased. The drive thru girl never smiled and seemed ready for end of her shift. The tacos were good but not great. $ 10 is a lot for 2 tacos to go (1 beef, 1 chicken) and no drink. I probably won’t return.

I moved out of town years ago and then back recently. Hated this place before and hoped the «new SA» would have made a difference. Still horrible and very surprising that people still even mention it, let alone eat here. Disgusting. I feel like I’ll be belching it for days.

As soon as we walk in to the restaurant there was a fowl odor that permeated the room. The restaurant was filthy and literally had dirt on the tables. I know it’s fast food but I honestly don’t see how this place passed a health inspection. We were too grossed out to even order our food.

This is indeed my fav location in SA– cleaner than the Perrin location– and its around the corner from my sisters house. The other great thing is it is open 24 hours a day. Think of Taco Cabana but with WAY better food. Yeah– there is a funny smell. but it goes away once you have been in there a few minutes. The very first thing you will notice is the bar on the right– try the frozen jack and Coke– and that’s not a typo! Then you will see the salsa bar in all its glory– i like mixing them to get the flavor and heat I’m in the mood for that day. Last is the crown jewel– the sweet little lady’s making the tortillas and gorditas by hand. JACK POT! I don’t care if the place smells like rotting feet. if they are making the tortillas by hand I’m all over it!
I have a place in my heart for the puffy tacos thanks to my loving father whom was raised in SA on the local delicacy. Don’t let the prices fool you– the portions are huge. You have to try a gordita also– you rarely find a place that makes the shells by hand.
Try and avoid it around dinner– this place is not as large as the others and it get super packed.

I actually remembered this place being bird infested, gross food but yummy frozen Jack & Coke. After moving back I decided to go back for the frozen J&C and was pleasantly surprised with the food. I thought the cheese enchiladas were delicious, nachos are always a hit here. Seems their prices have gone up like everywhere else, but you certainly get large portions here.

I never review restaurants as a general rule. I almost always defer to Unilocal reviews of an establishment and find that 99% of the time Unilocal gives a proper recommendations for a place. This place deserves negative stars.
I have been to ChaCho’s when it was really good, about ten years ago, and I find myself sitting here today thinking what the heck happened?! Perhaps it has changed management or ownership, but ChaChos used to have strong drinks and good food. Not anymore. It’s a casual dining environment, but currently I count ten tables around me covered in food and trash. That’s a bit too casual for me.
Seriously, the ordering area smells like a death trap and the people like me, people who order food anyways out of fond memories, are treated with absolutely mediocre food and a dreadful eating environment. I don’t even understand how the people running this place can think this is a good way to serve food…
Dirty. Disgusting. And absolutely not worth the money. I will never be coming back.

No. No. No. We’ve eaten at so many fabulous places in San Antonio. .. and ChaCho’s is not one of them. The banner out front touting that their margaritas have been voted the best for 10 (and now 11) years drew us in. Obviously, those who voted have never been to Jacala because they have the freshest most delicious margaritas I’ve ever had. The food at ChaCho’s was greasy and not flavorful. We’ll stick to Unilocal recommendations in the future.

This place is packed only for the alcohol. I can name 3 better places to eat within ½ mile. Service acts like they are doing you a favor.. .Type…shot at chachos… in google and see all the shootings reported by local news services (seperate incidences). Is it worth it.. .? NAH

Pretty great food for the price best is their King Kong Nachos :)
