I enjoyed the ambience of the location. It is really secluded and peaceful with great outdoor seating. The food was good — nothing particularly mind-blowing and fairly priced. It has a wide-variety of menu items. It would be a great location for a date. I would go back.

Excellent food and service. Ambiance is important too and this place has it, they have a great patio right next to the creek too. One of our favorite restaurants in Sugar House!

Our go-to for sushi. Best rice in town! But really, the best chefs and servers… They make it more fun than any other restaurant around! Try the poppers, luxury shrimp, tostadas and the screaming orgasm. You might have one…

Good variety. Slightly too sweet. Excellent staff. Large portions. Not cheap. Trendy chique.

These guys rock. What most people don’t know is yellowfinn encourages you to tell the chef what ingredients you like(tuna, eel, jabanero, mango, cucumber etc for mer personally) and what ingredients you don’t like(I don’t like cilantro or fusheggs) and let them come up with personalized Creations rather than just picking from rolls off of there already awesome menus. Everything they create is amazing and is customized directly to your personal tastes when you create a custom roll. The atmosphere is fun everyone is friendly, the service is great, prices are good and the quality is over the top don’t miss out on this sushi place in Sugarhouse. It’s run like a small business that actually cares about your experience being fun and relaxed.

This place is awesome. I feel as if people use Unilocal to only complain which makes rates/reviews not accurate, that’s why I’m writing a review. I highly recommend it! The food is great which is paired with even better service, and finished with fun atmosphere. Highly recommend and it’s the best to sit at the sushi counter top/bar so you can chat with the staff while your sushi is being made.

Had an exquisite evening at Yellowfinn and had exceptional service from Martin 15, I mean Brett. We enjoyed 3 rolls of sushi along with 2 crafts of hot sake. We even received an education on the difference between hot and cold sake. I will be trying cold sake on my next visit. Thanks again Brett.

Been coming here a while, and it never gets old. The service is awesome and the food is even better. Sushi is their specialty, but if you don’t like sushi, don’t fret. They have plenty of non-sushi options. I get the sesame chicken. It’s a pretty good portion for about $ 12. Mochi ice cream is also awesome! Love this place.

Unilocal reviewers are some of the most stuck up humans I have ever encountered. This place’s sushi is wonderful and I really enjoy Wu’s company. Yellowtail is great, and I definitely recommend sitting at the sushi bar. If you’re here to just order shrimp tempura rolls, then you most likely leave unsatisfied because that is not what real sushi is all about. I usually go here on weekends and get myself a lunch or dinner combo to cut the cost a bit, and i’ve never left unhappy with the food. The service can be a bit slower if you’re tabled, but I go to sushi bars to sit at the sushi bar and interact with the sushi chef. I’ve been to some other sushi bars in the sushi forsaken city, and I highly prefer Yellowfin any day. I hope you give this place a real chance before your little Unilocal fingers condemn a place of business because you didn’t like their flavor of tempura on your little crunch roll.

I think I would come here every single day to eat sushi. I love sushi and I love their patio seating outside. It’s like sitting in a little forest. Their sushi wasn’t bad but from what we ordered I only liked their tuna sashimi, called«screaming orgasm»., which was really good! We’ll come back to try different things in the hopes of finding some favorite rolls.

I have been here many times before Unilocal was huge. I’m so glad I can now share what I love about this place. If you’ve never been here try EVERYTHING!!! My personal favorite rolls are the Jolley Rancher, Kiss of death and agent orange. I caution you though. I like it spicy, so if you don’t like or can’t stand spicy try the other rolls. Atmosphere is so chill and I recommend sitting outside if the weather is right. I will be back and will be bringing friends to share all this goodness with.

Bad service, and not ideal for vegetarians. If you have any dietary restrictions, speak up. Don’t trust their menu. Even if it says there is no meat in something, there probably is. Honestly, walk the extra block and just go to Tsunami.

Very confused about the unagi. I’ve never ordered unagi and had it served deep fried. The waitperson explained they don’t serve it fresh which horrified me. Does that mean it’s like rotting and they serve it deep fried to hide it? Also, never had a waitress stand and wait for me to sign the receipt and ask me if everything was billed. Was rushed out when 85% of restaurant empty. Did that just happen? they had mochi, but it was also weird. Overly sweet and they cut up individual pieces into halves = melted ugly mess when you take it to go and skimping on mochi = kinda gross. Waitress did not inspire confidence or make me feel welcome when she told me they like their unagi deep fried. Who cares what you like? Your food is gross! You are rude and your service skills is lacking. Weird, unpleasant and but the patio was pleasant. would not recommend due to lack of fresh food and bad service. I had a a great visit to SLC, great people n food, but this place kind of gives it a bad rep.

This place was okay. They had a good variety of rolls but none that have drawn me back. My husband liked that they had a decent beer menu and the atmosphere was nice. It was cold when I went but they have out door seating that would be enjoyable if it was warm. All in all there wasn’t a single roll that could hook me back in to going. Tsunami is right down the street they are 5 star for me.

Very disappointing. Came here on a Monday night. They looked pretty slow but we had to ask for silverware and water. We ordered a couple appetizers to get started and those came out very quickly but our 2 entrees and 1 sushi roll took about 30 minutes. The sushi chefs are in visible sight and we could hear them swearing and talking about people. So unprofessional. I felt bad for the couple sitting by us they ordered 2 rolls and it took them about 40 minutes to get their food. Waitress wasn’t very friendly at all. Seemed like she was rushing us out. Not impressed. And it’s also very unappetizing when you see employees and chefs eating on the job. Watch out for the health dept to get you on that.

Come here for lunch sometimes because I work within walking distance. Have never been disappointed with anything ive ordered and while sometimes the wait staff is slower than necessary they’ve always been nice. They also have a «happy hour» food menu.

The sushi is pretty good! Its not my go to sushi joint because it is pricey! If you want a good roll the price is around $ 15. The service here is never bad either. The atmosphere is quiet as well. We usually get the same rolls, Death Machine and Kiss of Fire. If you like spicy you need to try them!

This started off ok. I hadn’t been in this place in years(I think it was Wasatch Grill then) and it was kind of cool to see the décor had not really changed at all. Service was friendly, but a little inattentive for how few people were actually there. I also never got my ordered drink, for some reason. The sushi rolls all started pretty good except for the one with pineapple, which was incredibly dreadful, easily one of the worst things I’ve put in my mouth. Look, I’ve eaten grocery store sushi, not once, but TWICE, in my entire life and I would rather have that every day of the week than suffer through the agony of that pineapple roll again. The hotter ones were a bit better, but none of them were great and after a while, the sort of astringent nature of them started to render them all as same-y tasting. Even the tempura shrimp, usually a safe choice, was kind of blah here. The rolls were well-executed, though. Calamari was also acceptable, though not anything I’d ever order again. This was mostly just to finish up canvassing the immediate neighborhood around where I live. I do think it’s semi-unique, though I found the Korean menu a lot more interesting than the sushi and after smelling some of it being delivered to a nearby table(of Koreans), I kind of wish I would have ordered that. Maybe next time… if there is a next time, I guess. Good, but not great and with Kyoto and Tsunami so close, it’s really a struggle to find a reason to go here…

For sushi — I’d probably give it a lower rating. Their rolls are decent, but a little pricey and nothing super innovative or new. For non-sushi items, it’s a solid 4 stars. I got the Coconut Curry and my associate ordered the Bibim Bap — both were delicious. Large portions, fresh veggies and meat, flavorful sauce, and piping hot when they came out. The service was good — nothing wowed me, but our waitress was attentive to our waters and recommended dishes when we ordered. I’d definitely go back, just probably not for sushi.
