I love this place. I only like cooked sushi & prefer the Las Vegas roll which this place has the best one. My husband loves the non cooked sushi & also loved this place. He ate 8 nigiri sushi, the most he has ever eaten. This place is a little more pricey then some places but so worth the price. We will so be going back & I already know some other sushi rolls that I am looking forward to trying. The service is also so much better than Yi Sushi Bistro, Red Mermaid & Ichiban. The place is also super clean & fast.

Not sure where the negative reviews come from here. After living and working in Japan extensively, those saying this is «not authentic» must be talking about a different Japan. When I want real sushi I come here. Their donburi is great and their Tenpura is as light and delicious as any that I had in Japan. Simply put«Oishi da yo! Tabete goran!»

If you want unauthentic Japanese food this is great. Premade appetizers and didn’t get chopsticks. Can’t sit where you want either even if the place is empty.

I’d put this one nominally at 3.5. A lot of the correct stuff is here; Japanese guy doing sushi, décor very understated, clean and with a ton of Japanese nods and styling, aside from the crappy pop music. If you get a seat by the parking lot facing East, you are treated to an awesome view of the mountains ringing Foothill Drive. Their green tea is also excellent and it makes for a pretty comfortable experience. Unfortunately, there were some problems. Now, they’re not alone in these with sushi places in the valley, so we again have the very common of slightly old fish, which tastes that way, we have lots of busyness in the rolls and a good amount of sauces, though I will say, to their credit, that the spicy fishes are not prepared catfood style, but as they should be, as actual individual pieces of fish. Execution was mostly good, especially in the tempura batter on the calamari rings(sigh), but I did have a few pieces of the rolls that were falling apart… which was a few too many. So, while these guys are not yet in the upper echelon of sushi places, they do have the potential and cleaning up all of those issues would be very helpful towards that goal. Even still, they’re notably over a regular 3 star experience, but not pushing higher than that yet. I know a lot of their rolls are in concession to the prevailing clientele, but a number of other places have already shown that keeping the purity and subtlety intact in sushi can be very lucrative. Here’s hoping these guys get there… but they’re not there yet. Definitely one to watch… maybe I’ll try back in a few months to see what progress has developed.

The sushi is so good! The prices are reasonable and the take out service is quick. I work close to this restaurant and I’ll be working into the lunch rotation!

I was really looking forward to eating here and had great expectations because of all the rave reviews but sadly I’m disappointed. I ordered the Large portion hot sake, chicken karaage, and the baked halibut roll(the waitress’ recommendation). The sake was first, and it was really warm and good(although the portion for large did not seem large at all). My biggest problem here is the chicken karaage. It came out like Chinese Sweet and Sour chicken that you see in Chinese buffets but instead of the bright red sauce it had sweet chili sauce on the side. That is NOT how you make chicken karaage at all. They used chicken breast instead of dark meat so the pieces were all dry. I suspect potato starch was not used and it wasn’t marinated in soy, ginger, garlic, and sake because it did not have a nice golden brown color that is inherent in this dish. Their rolls were also small. The baked halibut was $ 9.56(after the 20% promo) and I felt the price was not justifiable at all. Just add another dollar and you could’ve gotten one of the combo/bento meals on the menu. On another note the fried sweet potato and onions that came with the chicken were nice and crispy. Sadly, that isn’t enough to make me come back here again.

The food here is always fresh and full of flavor. I wouldn’t compliment much about the interior and the surrounding atmosphere, but it does feel comfortable and clean. Although the food may be a bit pricy, I’m guessing it’s worth it when you’re served fresh food with care^^

Since the place at the bottom of the hill… that’s named after a city in Japan… has gone… well… downhill… to the bottom, HI Sushi is now the BEST sushi joint in the neighborhood. We’ve been to Hi Sushi several times since my first review and it just seems to get better and better with each visit. The fish is always super fresh and the rolls, sashimi and nigiri are all beautifully prepared and presented. The service is excellent and the prices are reasonable. I love this place!

Excellent sushi and service. Very fresh and friendly service. We have had their food twice and really enjoyed it both times. Definitely our favorite in SLC and much better in quality than the fancier sushi places in downtown(Takashi or something like that). The location is right off foothill in a shopping center so nothing glamorous but fantastic food and service.

I am currently at the restaurant and the worst sushi experience ever. The fish is not very fresh and the sushi rolls taste funky. Not ever come back. Seriouly BLACKLIST!!!

Loved the place. Totally beats big chains or even the more«popular» sushi places all the hipsters go to. It’s not only locally ones but the husband and wife prep your sushi and serve you. They were sweet and everything we got was good. We literally had 9 rolls, the teriyaki bowl(don’t expect it to be a traditional mixed in bowl, but the presentation was nice) and the noodles(delicious and the veggies cooked just right). Also they have fun drinks you don’t normally get at restaurants. You know… those cool Asian drinks you see at the market but are always too lazy or scared to try. Great place. Oh and prices were good, not 18 $ a roll. And I didn’t have to wait till Monday to get half off like at ichibans. I call that a thursday success!

Love Hi Sushi for lunch. Fast enough to be in and out in an hour with time to spare to grab Starbucks across the lot. The Citrus Salmon roll is AMAZING. Other favorite rolls: The French Bean, Wasatch, and the Red Dragon are fantastic. I’ve been going there since they opened and I’ve never been disappointed. I highly recommend them for lunch or dinner.

Tasty sushi, at an affordable rate. Clean a comfortable, plenty of booths available. I like taking my kids here because it is not so fancy and they have pot stickers.

Hi owner, Yuri crafts beautifully balanced nigiri and sushi rolls as well as other expertly crafted dishes. Their sushi is both savory(umami) and balanced(not too much rice.) Yuri’s wife, Jo manages the servers, service is always excellent without being intrusive. The environment is open, clean and esthetically pleasing. These sushi chefs are pleasant, welcoming and most important, experts at their craft.

I go here once a week. Yuri is the Sushi Chef and he runs the place with his wife Cho. The food is consistently outstanding. Fresh and delicious always. Our favorites are the Triple Shrimp Roll and the Samurai. My dad loves the fresh Hamachi. We’ve gone to other fancier sushi places around Salt Lake and the taste is never the same as Hi Sushi.

I’ve only ever come for lunch but I really like Hi Sushi. It’s not fancy but the food is consistently good and the service is always fast and friendly. On a few occasions where I was providing a sushi party at work, they have prepared large platters of a variety of rolls that everyone thought were great. An easy recommend.

Dinner is a great time to stop by for your fill of some great nigiri Sushi, l dream about the ama ebi and toro tuna when they have it. It cranks it up to the next level. The mochi green tea ice cream is great especially on a hot day.

Say Hello to Hi-Sushi. I was a first– time skeptic made into a believer by a combination of good food and service. Skeptic because it’s a sushi place in a strip mall, unfortunately located next to an insurance company and discount clothing store. Also skeptic, because when I first walked in, there were only two customers. Also skeptic because of the name. Hi-Sushi? What does that mean? Hmmm. Anyway… This could easily be your long lost Japanese grandmother’s house minus the traditional décor. Which, if you’re going for traditional Japanese ambience, probably not gonna find it here. If you’re lucky enough to have Ethan as your server, you won’t be let down. He’s great and on the ball and recommended the Oyako Don. Skeptical again, still, I tried it, and was not disappointed. Delicious. The spicy Hamachi roll which I also ordered, could have used more kick… but I like things very spicy, and that can often be tough to gauge. Overall great lunch place. My review is strictly based on a lunch experience, and couldn’t ask for anything more, all things considered. I will be back if it’s convenient. But can’t say I would travel from afar to come here. But, do eat here if you’re looking for sushi in a pinch, and happen to be in the area. And behold… Skeptics make the best believers.

My husband thought it was really good, I thought it was ok. The food didn’t look like the pictures at all and some of the ingredients were different. The 20% off for happy hours is only for rolls that are around $ 13 bucks. For the price I would pass.
