Fantastic sushi. Their ribs are to die for. Ribs at a Japanese place… who knew. Best in class on everything on their menu. You cannot go wrong!

The sushi was good but only the breathing dragon roll and another roll I forgot was amazing. The other two didn’t have any flavor at all, even the rice didn’t have a good seasoning to it. One of the roll came with Habernero sauce and we just used that for all of the rolls. Usually I only need small amount of Wasabi because I don’t like when it stings my nose too much but I actually used alot because it couldn’t even taste the wasabi. The service was alright, could’ve been more friendlier.

This is my absolute favorite sushi place in Utah, my favorite rolls are the Vegas and The executive suite, and I’ve tried almost every roll. The fish always tastes fresh and the rolls are always wrapped nearly. I have high hopes every time I try another sushi place but it never compares to here. I always have had fantastic service from every employee here as well which is a huge part of a restaurant experience for me. Don’t hesitate to try this place out!

There are a lot of places to get sushi in Salt Lake without hosts who repeatedly lie and glare at you while you wait. Save yourself some dirty looks and condescending attitudes, and go somewhere else. I would review the sushi, but I have self respect and left before my party sat down this evening.

I have only dined as a large group which they can accommodate up to 40. 36 with A/V equipment. Fast effecient service. Rolls came out on huge platters nearly all at once(there was 25 of us). The vegetarian spices rolls… OMG I could seriously eat a dozen of them. We had some people order cooked food and loved it. I think the prices are very reasonable and the food is very fresh. Go and enjoy some great sushi.

Tried several sushi places in salt lake and this one is the best. It is pricey compared to the others but you get quality service and food. They even have veggie rolls and a gluten free menu. Last time I was there I had a cheese cake for dessert — was amazing! Also, it is near the movie theater so it is a perfect dinner and movie date spot.

Decent sushi at this tsunami location. What I find at the different locations are often bland sushi. Poke was good, as for the mussel shooters.

We lived in Japan for four years and thought we’d never find good sushi outside of Japan until we visited Tsunami. This is our third time there — consistently excellent. I’m intrigued by some of the mediocre reviews –except for the tempura(light and crispy) and the desserts, we haven’t had anything cooked, but I really wouldn’t go to a sushi bar for cooked fish, so perhaps that’s not their strong suit? We’re making our way through the menu and have loved everything we’ve had there. The service at the counter is great — if you want to finish off your meal with a decadent dessert — try their cheesecake, it’s fantastic!

Excellent Sushi! My wife and I came down to SLC and decided to eat at Tsunami. It was late, they were busy but once we were seated, the staff was friendly and we were waited on by a friendly waiter. The sushi was fresh. I felt it was a bit pricey but I also feel that for good fresh sushi in the SLC valley, you’ll find they are the same price as other good sushi restaurants. Small place but good food.

I came here with some friends for a Galentines Friday night date. The sushi was a notch above the little square grocery store containers but not by much. Nothing really tasted fresh except for the lemon on one of my rolls. And I felt sick an hour after eating here and most of the following morning. I’ve never been inclined to come on my own and now I’m glad I’ll never return.

Sushi was delicious. Service was great. Only downside is it’s a very busy location and it sucks that they dont take reservations for less than 6. So you end up having to go in put your name down, leave, then come back when your tables ready.

I’m usually pretty forgiving for restaurants, and especially Sushi resturaunts. While there is a definite difference between good and bad sushi, all sushi takes care and effort to make. However Tsunami challenged that notion for the first time. The interior was cramped and claustrophobic, where we were sat with out backs to a thin walkway where service and customers were bustling around. And we were sat inches away from other patrons in an eerily small dining area which was completley silent. Everyone could hear everyone else’s conversations and children who’s activity would normally seem quiet in a full sized dining room was very pronounced(at no fault to them). We ordered some Gyoza and some spicy tuna rolls with the Sunshine roll and a specialty roll. The rolls took near an hour and the Gyoza came out cold. Despite us ordering it pan fried, the Gyoza came tasting boiled and doughy. The fish in the rolls was graying and turning transparent. All of it was slimy, fishy and devoid of any freshness or flavor. And all of them were simply slapped on a white plate messily. The lack of care or interest in making a good experience was apparent throughout the meal. There is a lot of great sushi places in Salt Lake City. But this is not one of those.

This place is amazing! Casual atmosphere with amazingly delicious food, and decently priced sushi. I am definitely making this place my new sushi go to. I can’t wait to come back and try more! I had the cucumber salad, the summer roll, and the TNT roll with an elk nigiri special. All of it fresh, quick, and amazing in presentation and taste.

Oh My Sushi! Why haven’t I gone to this place before yesterday? My friend decided he wanted sushi and I was game. He suggested Tsunami… Now, I have my regular go-to places for sushi that I know have good options for vegetarians; however, with my friend being a vegetarian I decided to give it a shot. This place is a veggie lovers heaven for veggie sushi. There’s an entire section just for us! Now don’t get me wrong; I’m not giving this place rave reviews for just their menu. The food was delicious! They even have different types flavored sake. My friend ordered the large one of lychee sake and wow! I still can’t get over how awesome all the food was. The Portland and RF Snacker were two of my favorites that we got, as well as something called the hot mama or mamba(can’t remember). That one was a special so I’m not sure how often they have it. The only reason this place didn’t get 5 stars I think is the ambiance. I feel like they could make the inside feel a little nicer and the tables seemed a little close together.(Maybe it was just the ones we were seated at right by the entrance.) The lights were super bright making the place look more fast food-ish rather than a nice sit down restaurant for dinner. Either way, the food it delicious and I will definitely be going back!

I’m not from the area so I was a bit skeptical about going to a sushi place in a state that is so far from the ocean. I went in for lunch during the week and it was pretty busy. They suggested I sit at the sushi bar and I was glad for their suggestion because I’m still a sushi novice. The waiters were all so friendly and the sushi chefs went above and beyond what I expected. I told them the things I enjoy and they gave me several suggestions in order to help me with the menu. I ended up getting the Vegas roll(tempura fried) and a Philly roll. The sushi chefs made sure that I had enough spicy mayo and eel sauce on my fried roll and even gave me a little extra spicy mayo on the side for my Philly roll. I will definitely be returning in hopes to broaden my sushi horizons. I would recommend this place if you are looking for excellent sushi in the valley.

Wow! How things have changed(for me) since my original review in 2009! I raved about Tsunami’s non-sushi options, such as teriyaki chicken and tempura shrimp. I have evolved and now would never dream of ordering cooked food at a sushi joint. Enough about me and my transformation. Tsunami is still awesome! Their cooked food is still dynamite, so you can eat here with non-sushi eaters. But their raw fish is the star of this production. The sashimi is super fresh and delicious. Their rolls are imaginative and bright and expertly prepared. The service is wonderful and the prices are very reasonable for such high-quality cuisine. Add a sweet patio for Spring, Summer and Fall dining, and Yay! I’m a fan.

Japanese udon is one of my new favorite dishes! Great choice for lunch if you’re craving a bunch of different options. We started with a small order of Tsunami Baby Back Ribs($ 7.99). I didn’t think it was small. so I can’t imagine the large order. Great in flavor yet the ribs seem they’re cooked a little too long. The meat ended up being small and a little on the dry side. The ribs sit on top of a bed of «coleslaw» in their delicious, YUM! The Fire Breathing Dragon roll was next($ 12.99). Yes, I probably chose it because of it’s appealing name but it wasn’t disappointing. The smoked salmon that topped it off was amazing. Udon noodles came last. I forgot how much but I believe it was around $ 7 – 8 dollars for a generous portion. The texture of the noodles are addicting. if that’s textures can be addicting. Udon is a little chewier which I prefer. They have options of shrimp, beef, and veggie. I selected the shrimp which was tempura shrimp, mushrooms, sweet potato, and onion on the side. Eat it on the side or dip it in the broth for a softer option! Great experience. Good service. I’ll definitely be back!

Went in for lunch after a long wait free Comic book day and it was quiet. Nice to be able to sit outside on their patio beneath the shade. The service was great for Utah undesirably low standards in other restaurant establishments. I ordered the combo lunch with shrimp tempura and sirloin teriyaki. My son had the kids salmon and hubby ordered the sushi lunch plate. I was given lots of tempura vegetables which I enjoyed and shared with my two. It was a lot and I was more than full and satisfied. The steak was done medium well, too tough for my liking but I also wasnt asked how I wanted it down, which may be one of the downfalls. No sweat the rest of the meal was pleasant. I tasted my son’s complimentary ice cream and I liked the rich vanilla bean they served. Well be back! Quite an enjoyable lunch and service for once!

Sad to say this location has gone way, way downhill. I lived in Sugarhouse for 2 years in 2012⁄2103 and would eat have eaten here dozens and dozens of times over many other years. During the time I lived in Sugarhouse, I went there a minimum of once a week, sometimes twice a week so know it well. On Monday night and it was really disappointing. To start, one of their iconic dishes, the ribs, were dry and the flavor not up to par. The calamari appetizer was really bad. The calamari were small and very tasteless. Even their signature spicy mayo was lacking. The rolls we ordered were DTH and lobster roll. While the lobster roll was passable, it was not up to its normal standard either. Actually the DTH, also what I would consider a signature dish was just plain disappointing. That’s a good word for the entire meal, just overwhelmingly disappointed in a well loved and many times visited establishement. I believe it may have changed owners, and if that’s the case they should rethink what they’ve done. The only acceptable dish in the entire meal was the chicken katsu, which is pretty hard to screw up. As a side note, I eat quite often at the Tsunami in Draper and have not had a bad experience there. I’m hoping that this isn’t a trend with this brand.

I wish I could’ve checked in here, but unfortunately I can’t. And that’s because my group could not be accommodated. That’s right, they sent a party of 11 out the door when at least half the tables in the restaurant were empty and unreserved. This location only takes reservations for one table, which seats 9. And we happened to have a reservation for that table, even though we made the reservation for 10(we had an extra person join us, making us a party of 11). When we saw the table we realized there was no way we could all sit there and have room for food, so we asked if some of us could sit at the empty(and unreserved) table next to it. «I’m sorry, that table is for walk-ins only.» Ok, WHAT?! We can’t put part of our party at the table we reserved and part of our party at the empty table next to it? «No, that’s for walk-ins only. It’s policy.» Great policy, send 11 people out the door when they would’ve dined in and paid a(probably large) bill. SMART! Best management ever! Your restaurant is half empty at 6:00 p.m. It’s sad for my 6-year-old, who is in love with Buddha rolls, but WEWON’T BEBACK! We dine at the Cottonwood Heights location at least twice a month, but we will never come here again. Way to go, Tsunami! More empty tables than full and you’re turning paying customers away in the name of «Policy.» Honestly, I can’t believe this really happened. And if I hear the word«policy» again I’m going to scream.

So good. Also, whoever does the hiring did a good job on the bartenders. I want to say his name was Ricky but I am uncertain. He was blonde with some half hidden tattoos on his arm. He was to die for. Just that will keep me coming back for more!

This is the BESTPLACE for allergy worry-free dining. It’s rare to find establishments and staff that are dedicated to offering an assurance of safety when eating out. The Tsunami staff are quite possibly the most professional staff in Utah when it comes to allergy worry-free dining. They take their food allergies seriously. Which is important because, nationally, food allergies are on the rise in the younger generation. And if you have members of your family in this situation, you know how eating out can sometimes feel like you’re playing Russian Roulette with your health. My GF took me here on Sunday for my birthday. I hear that Friday/Saturday nights are a mad house here, so I’m glad we went on a Sunday. Plus, their Happy Hour specials are good all day on Sunday! We ordered the Tsunami roll(among many other items). Our server knew that my GF was a gluten-free diner because we had asked for their gluten-free menu… which, BTW, is a real menu and not some half-assed menu like some other restaurants that claim to be «gluten-free» use… that should be a red flag right there. When our Tsunami roll arrived, she tried a slice of the roll and noticed that there was soft-shell spider crab inside. Now, we both know that soft-shell spider crab is usually deep-fried in a flour-based batter, so she stopped eating it and asked to talk to the manager about this. We were a bit concerned because it was on the gluten-free menu. Could this be an oversight? Well, when the manager arrived, he explained this to us: * Their spider roll uses a gluten-free batter +1 * They fry their spider roll in a special pan only used for gluten free menu items +1 * They use separate oil only used for their gluten free menu items +1 It made my GF so happy and reassured after she heard this! What a huge sigh of relief and confidence, actually! In fact, this is now the only place that we know of where she can order a gluten-free spider roll! I’ve always known that Tsunami was a great place for vegetarian eaters because my hair stylist always talks about them. Now, I know they are great for gluten-free dining as well! Here’s a sampling of our favorites(not all are gluten-free), you’ll have to check the menu: * Uni * Korean style boneless beef short ribs * Executive suite * Tsunami roll * Spider roll * Negima with scallions * Broiled green lip mussels * Hernan’s chicken tacos You can find slightly cheaper or cut-rate restaurants out there but if food allergies are a serious issue in your life, then you can finally eat out without the worry. If you’re looking for healthy eating with solid service, top-quality ingredients and a staff that’s serious about food allergies, then, it doesn’t get any better than this unless you buy it yourself and make it at home. I don’t have any food allergies but I prefer eating at restaurants that have strict food safety practices in order to serve diners with food allergies. Why? It just means they’re going to be cleaner and handle their ingredients better than other places. And so far, it’s true. We’ve eaten here many times and my GF has never become ill(*knock on wood) from gluten or cross contamination from their food. If a restaurant claims to be gluten-free, she’ll know within 24 hours whether they’re lying or not. We’ve been to all three locations and they’re all very consistent, meaning she hasn’t been gotten sick from gluten or cross-contamination from any location.

Tsunami Sushi is my go-to in town. For starters — I’ve NEVER had bad sushi here, and my boyfriend is a big guy ergo we order lots of rolls ergo I’ve tasted a good majority of the menu. It’s all delicious. The sushi is always well made(never falls apart or any of that nonsense) and the bites are the perfect size to fill you up but not look ridiculous shoving this massive blob in your mouth. Their fish is always SO fresh. The nigiri is my boyfriend’s favorite and he always just goes with the chefs choice and is pleased. The atmosphere is nice; perfect spot for a date. The service has always been excellent. Pretty quick and really great wait staff. And it is so convenient in the heart of Sugarhouse! 100% recommend trying Tsunami!

My assessment of sushi restaurants starts with the number of patrons dining during a normal dinner sevice. We went on a Friday evening and it was packed. There was a diverse crowd ranging from uptight Mormon weirdos and an assortment of hipsters which are often the Mormons in disguise. With that being said, we were able to score a seat at the sushi bar and had a delectable meal of sushi and teriyaki beef. They kept the alcohol flowing — always a smart move in the restaurant biz. The more you drink the more you want to drink and the less control you have, driving up that wonderful bill. We had to walk around the block before driving home because We were bloated and buzzed from sushi and sake over indulgence. Which naturally means we love it there and What sushi restaurant doesn’t love bloated over eaters wasting their lives on tempura batter and boiling hot wine?

Can’t complain at all about Tsunami. Last night was a late late run and anguished desparation to get food in my belly, mostly. As always, Tsunami carries a wide selection of appetizers, rolls, and main dishes. I ordered a bowl of rice, the lightly fried tempura chicken, and gyozas(deep fried is the best here; I’d avoid the pan fried, honestly). Now imagine an exasperated Latina animé devouring this meal… That was me. The food was exactly what I needed. For recommendations, I would state all of the above, including the shrimp crunchy roll(best in town) and the [chicken] tacos. This is an excellent place for trying something new and refreshingly local. Good selections and awesome for after-work happy hour. Service is always nice; depending how busy it is, it may at times take a little longer, but all is forgiven. Thanks Tsunami for always taking care of me!
