What a great little sushi place. On Saturday they have live music. The tuna salad was delicious. The sushi was great.

Best sushi I’ve had in a long time, and I consider myself to be a sushi snob. Worth checking out. Next time I’m going rogue and checking out the dessert sushi menu! I was too stuffed to try after lunch… Don’t miss the coconut shrimp. They were the best I’ve ever had — being an Alaskan chick, consider that quite the compliment.

I’ve read EVERY review about this place and I’d like to debunk what’s been negatively said. First off, I’ve been eating at Sushi Groove every week, religiously, for about six years. I go at least once a week, usually for lunch, but sometimes in the evening. Noise: I’ve NEVER felt the music was too loud. Ever. There seems to be a lot of people complaining about the volume. Can’t see what they’re complaining about and I’m 50 years old! Whether it’s a DJ or live music or a Pandora stream, it’s never been too loud. Never. Salty Food: I’m an extremely sensitive person to salty tasting food. I’ve never experienced this at Sushi Groove. Maybe I’m not eating what others are ordering, but I can’t admit their dishes are salty. Cleanliness: I’ve read a lot of people’s comments complaining about the cleanliness and practices of the chefs. To be honest, I don’t care. Here’s why: 1) I’ve NEVER been sick from eating at this sushi restaurant, like I have from other sushi places. 2) If you could see your food being prepared in front of you at other restaurants, and what those preparers look like, and their practices, I guarantee you’d be complaining even more. A sushi restaurant has their practice on display. It may not be what you THINK is good, but in the end, they get the job done and you’re not sick. So stop judging. Service: I will admit, I’ve had slow service before, but they try. Hard. I’ve had good service at the bar and from Jeff while at tables. Good servers are hard to come by. Servers can be flighty and jump jobs. Keeping them trained to your standard is hard. Give them a break in this area. Sushi Groove get slammed with sushi lovers and it’s a challenge to accommodate everyone’s needs all at once. Sushi Groove has THE best saké and wine menu of any sushi restaurant I’ve tried anywhere! Couple this with a good environment and you will enjoy the food and experience, every time.

Love love love this place for vegetarians. Once you come here, you’ll never go back to those tiny seaweed wrapped cucumber rolls all other sushi places have.

Awesome local spot! Cool atmosphere that makes anyone feel welcome. Not a swanky joint but you can see that when you drive by. Just good tasting sushi and cold beer. I was not disappointed.

They play the music so loud at this place it is unbelievable. I didn’t expect my ears to be ringing after a night out for sushi. Turn the music down, actually turn the music off. The management might be surprised to know that sometimes people like to have a conversation when they go out to eat.

Food was awesome, but our waitress named Nichole was far from it. She totally ignored us, she visited a friend at the end of the bar. I had asked to make sure we had enough wasabi since we were having 4 rolls. We received a teaspoon of wasabi: no refills, no sweetener, she never checked back, until we were done. I even went to the counter and got more Wasabi, she didn’t even notice. She was so engrossed in conversation with her friend. I did finally get a refill of ice tea, but it was time to leave. I have always had great service and food before from this place.

I challenge anyone to find a better sushi restaurant than this one!!! Dave the Sushi Chef and Owner Rocks! Fabulous food and atmosphere. They usually have a band or DJ playing every time I go. Don’t miss Tuesday $ 2.50 Sushi, that’s when I’m usually there.

About par for the course for many sushi places in SLC. Good, not stellar. I particularly hate the acoustics in there and especially when a DJ is playing as it is very, very loud. The sushi isi serviceable, however if you want something outstanding, there are many other places to try. I have always found the staff to be friendly and helpful.

OK, let’s set our expectations straight. This restaurant is not: — fine dining — extremely authentic, like naked fish — drop of a pin quiet It is a fun experience, and a place to get fresh creative sushi at a really moderate price. Our server Lisa was really knowledgeable about the menu, and helped us pick out dinner. We had: Spicy ceviche served with wonton chips A roll with spicy scallops, avocado, and salmon. A sushi sampler A sashimi sampler The sashimi sampler was the highlight of dinner. I felt fish rich when it came out! The fish was all fresh, and the roll was expertly prepared. Lisa also recommend a great unfiltered sake from the extensive booze menu. Desert was nutella ice cream from a local spot in sugar house. The DJ was spinning old school hip hop, and the décor is fun colorful graffiti. I can’t wait to come back and try more of the menu!

Went to Sushi Groove after many years of driving past it. The food was good but a little bit too salty for my taste. I ordered 4 sushi rolls and one appetizer. I always order the Mussel Shooters every time I go to a Sushi restaurant and I did the same here. The presentation of the Mussel Shooters was very nice but the Mussel Shooters itself was bad. The diced mussels were drenched it what looked like soy sauce and that’s it. No depth of flavor aside from the Tobiko topping it and the Mussels themselves tasted very old and muddy. It was very, very, salty and disappointing. Now, the 4 sushi rolls. I forgot the names but I have some pictures that I will post. Overall the 4 sushi rolls taste were good and creative in taste but there was one that was super salty and very sweet. I forgot the name but it had only baked salmon throughout. No rice. That roll is decent but I don’t know why it tasted very salty and very sweet at the same time. If they cut back on the salt then I think that roll would be perfect. Otherwise, the 3 other rolls were fine.

I had to post my review from a year ago as I can’t understand how this place has four stars. Wake up folks, if you think this is 5 stars, you don’t know what good sushi is. Because of the 4 stars I felt a responsibility to inform people of my experience. I would have to say that we were excited to try this neighborhood sushi spot. I love sushi and frequent many sushi places around the west. The one thing that is a key attribute of the finest sushi places is the cleanliness. the night my wife had dinner here was anything but clean. We sat at the sushi bar and had a good conversation with the sushi chef. We were hopeful that it would go well. We had some of the chefs recommendations but we were disappointed by the sweet /desert nature of the sushi. It seemed that many of rolls on the menu were integrating fruit in them. I thought initially it was interesting to explore the fruit but we got tired of it quickly. It was halfway through our meal when I realized how unclean the chef was. Watching him work was fun the way he kept his work station clean was disgusting. After each dish he prepared he would wipe the table down with a disgustingly dirty dish towel. The towel was green with appeared to be wasabi remnants wiped from the work station. I could not believe my eyes. It was immediately apparent that this towel was his favorite as it was used over and over again while we sat at the bar. I have never seen a sushi place as dirty as this. The sad reality soon set in and we realized that if his towel is dirty, what does that say about raw fish storage and cleaning the restaurant after each day. Additionally the fun funky atmosphere quickly was overshadowed by the incredibly poor acoustics in the restaurant. It was uncomfortable to have any sort of conversation. We have not given sushi groove a second chance and probably won’t as there are plenty of fine establishments nearby.

Ummm the place looked fun… But super dirty! Our feet were sticking to the floor. We actually went to the bathroom after we were done eating to wash our shoes off. To no success! Super gross! The sushi was ok. Nothing to rave about for the price. Totally over priced for what you get. Would not go back. I do have to say the service was good. But We should have know when we pulled up for lunch at 1230 and the place was empty that we should have left. So for service is give it 3 stars food 1. Meet in the middle at 2

I was not too impressed with this place to be honest. My friend and I came in because she lives close by and we were hanging out and just wanted sushi and it was getting too late to venture too far. I love the funky interior and the ambiance inside, but I really did not like feeling like I was having to yell at my friend who was seated right next to me at the bar. Definitely not a place that I would take an older crowd unless maybe they are more the partying type. As far as the rolls. They weren’t bad. Definitely nothing spectacular and I’ve with out a doubt had better sushi around town, but they do have some unique rolls. Their desert rolls were definitely a different concept, but enjoyable. I had a tempura shrimp and a maui wowi. They were decent, but I would not order them again if I went in. I would like to go back and try different rolls at some point, but probably not during the loud music time.

Food was pretty decent, service was good. The loud noisy music was irritating as well as the people yelling all over. Not sure we will be back unless it is for a quiet lunch when the DJ is sleeping.

When it comes to sushi it doesn’t get much better than this place. When I’m in Utah it’s a must stop. Everything is fresh and the owner preps all the cuts of sushi. Cool music inside and a great vibe. So tired of all the pretentious places and this one sets itself apart. I gave them 5 unagi’s!

I have always heard good things about this place, but never tried it out because it is out of my way. Once day, I decided to go out of my way to finally see what Sushi Groove is all about. The décor is very fun. Definitely a laid back atmosphere with funky colors, drawings, a chalkboard with pictures, etc. The service was friendly — made great recommendations without being pushy. We sat at the sushi bar and definitely took our time, ordering one roll at a time and everyone was fine with that — did not feel rushed. The rolls are pretty unique and unconventional. Lots of fruits in the rolls and interesting combinations. Definitely unique and I liked trying the new flavors. They also have a great selection of non-sushi items — my favorite was the poke salad. Also, amazing selection of unique dessert items, particularly for a sushi place! Definitely my favorite part of the meal.

This is my favorite sushi destination in Utah. The food is delicious, the service is friendly and attentive, and I really like the intimacy of the place. I’ve been here several times, especially on $ 2.50 nigiri Tuesdays. Yes, an order of nigiri for $ 2.50. I usually come in and get several orders of nigiri with a roll added in for variety and leave pretty happy. In addition to the normal menu orders, they have regular specials – I am particularly fond of the escolar. It’s got a lovely buttery texture to it that I can’t pass up. All the sushi I’ve had is solid, and I recently tried one of the rice bowls. But instead of rice, I opted for the pan-seared noodles. It was great! It came out piping hot with a nice combination of a variety of fish and vegetables. The serving was plentiful and very, very tasty. One of these days, I want to try one of the tempura banana dessert options, but to do that, I’m going to have to pass up on some of the sushi I order for the entrée. Tough choice… My favorite experiences at Sushi Groove have actually been alone. I like sitting at the sushi bar and seeing sushi being made just a couple of feet away. The chefs are always friendly and talkative about what they’re making and what I’ve ordered. And the service I’ve had has always been good.

Younger crowd for sure but this 40 year old can still blend in. I went here with a friend to grab a bite to eat and was mostly underwhelmed by the food and service. The wait staff was kind of slow and not involved with any thought of speedy service. Food took over 30 mins to get to the table and the rolls looked like a 12 year old made them. Sushi in Utah is over, I am over it.
